Boxing Day on the 26th of December, many people have a day off on this special day; many of them visit stores which starts their annual sales on Boxing Day. Stores open earlier and people wake up early to be one of the first in the store. If you are planning to buy electronics, then you definitely should buy that on Boxing day!
Other people watch sports on the television, many big sporting events are held on Boxing Day.Ā For example the International Ice Hockey Federation world junior hockey championships often start on December 26.
The reason why this day is called Boxing Day is because a long time ago in the United Kingdom, the lord paid employees who worked on his land with boxes of practical goods. He gave these boxes the day after Christmas Day. Later, employers gave their servants a gift of money or food in a small box on the day after Christmas Day. Nowadays some people in Canada still give presents to each other.
