As most of you know Canada Day takes place on July, 1st. For most of us this it means that we have a 3-day weekend, but do you know why Canada is celebrated here? If not it’s time for a history lesson :)!
Canada day was originally called Dominion day, which is the anniversary of the Constitution Act of 1867. This act was what united all of separate provinces into one country. Canada gained most of their independence from England on this day, although total independence was not received until 1982. This event promotes nationalism and pride in the great country of Canada.
Canada day is celebrated yearly with parades, fireworks, carnivals, beach parties, and many other events. Make sure to join us for our beach party on Sunday at Spanish Banks Beach! It will be the first Canada Day for most of us so let’s celebrate the right way!
