Review of the Year: April, May, June

April

And as the first quarter of the year ended with some anticipation, we could start into the second one with the review of our amazing trip to the Rockies. Watching the beautiful scenery of snowy mountains and lakes really made me think how much one takes Canada for granted sometimes. Another great thing about this trip was the gorgeous weather. We really were a lucky bunch because it was sunshine and blue skies everyday! During this trip we went to so many beautiful places such as Lake Louise, Bow Lake, Emerald Lake, and of course Banff Gondola!

After the legendary Rockies trip, we had to say good bye to yet another friend and intern of our PR department. Flora had been with us for a quarter of a year and for her it was back to being a student for the moment. Yep, that meant textbooks and exams (no more pub nights for her on weekdays…no tequila shots).

However, as most often the case, one beloved face vanishes and another person is right at the threshold. Mercedes started her internship with us in April. She was born in a Spanish city called Vigo, right in the Atlantic Coast, and that’s probably the reason why she loves the sea and the beach so much. She studies Advertising and Public Relations at the University of Vigo and wants to achieve a career in International Relations and Marketing.

Only a few weeks later, Mercedes was joined by Clara. She was from Mérida, a very beautiful city in the Southwestern part of Spain, with a large amount of old Roman monuments and famous for its ham, red wine and other delicious things and the last four years she lived in Madrid. So April really was a month of change…

May

And the new month started off with another new intern as well. We welcomed Jelle into the team, a Dutch student, living close to Amsterdam in a small town called Enkhuizen. For the last 7 years he studied in Amsterdam. The first 4 years graphic design, and in April he studied international tourism management. Because of his studies he likes to travel a lot.

Other than that, we had a public holiday in May, the Victoria Day. Victoria Day (French: Fête de la Reine) is a national Canadian pubic holiday celebrated on the last Monday before May 25, in honor of Queen Victoria’s birthday. Queen Victoria was born on May 24th, 1819 and is still the longest-reigning monarch of the United Kingdom. (During her life, the British Empire expanded substantially). The monarch’s birthday has been celebrated in Canada since before the beginning of Queen Victoria’s reign. After her death, on January 1901, May 25 became “Empire Day”, and for many reasons the Monday before the 25th became Victoria’s Day! In some cities, fireworks are displayed or parades are held to mark Victoria Day. One of the most notable parades is held in the capital of British Columbia; Victoria, which was named because of the Queen Victoria!

June

June, the last part of the second quarter, started of summer and to get in the mood, we decided to announce another Rockies trip for August. What better way to start of this season than with anticipation for this great adventure…
