INTERNeX Canada: It’s not an adios, it’s just an hasta luego

I can’t believe my days at the office are gone and this is actually my last blog post. I still remember the first time I arrived here. It was a mix of feelings. I was at the same time nervous and excited but in the other hand I was kind of insecure with all tasks that I’ll have to do during my internship here…

Better or worse, I managed to do everything and enjoying doing it. These weeks gave me the opportunity to grow up in a professional way and have a good start in my future career. If I have to sum up my experience at the office  it will be something like  “When you think you can’t do something, just do it” That’s the best way to learn, putting yourself in new situations where you’ ll have to work hard to achieve what you want.

I am kind of excited to go home and remember how was and is everything there. It’s not the first time that I live alone abroad, but definitely these seven months have changed me completely.

Everybody that really knows me, knows how I would describe my ideal city… green, with beach and lakes, where you can walk everywhere but still have independence of living the way you like. So what was my surprise when I arrived here and this city offers me everything that I was always looking for. If you add another passion of mine which is meeting people of different cultures, this whole experience was just a dream.

I am not going to say goodbye. Because a part of me has gone with those who already left and another part I hope will remain with those who will stay. I got the extraordinary chance of knowing exceptional people with whom right now the only thing that separate us is just the distance. That kind of real friends with whom it’s not necessary to speak with everyday, but no matter when you’ll see them again that everything will be exactly like it was before.

So the only think I can say is thank you, thank you for all the good moments, inside and outside the office, thank you for the lesson and the life lessons, for the parties, for all the crazy things that I had the chance to do here, as wake boarding or snow tubing or awesome trips as The Rockies or Whistler.

By the way, this is not a goodbye post  I’ ll be one month away, but my time in Vancouver hasn’t finished yet, so even I won’t be at the office anymore, I hope to see all of you around soon!

A chapter has finished, but another one is just going to start..

It was my pleasure,

Irene

INTERNeX Canada: How were your holidays?

Happy 2013 everyone! It’s been awhile, hasn’t it?

It’s a new year, meaning new resolutions and new goals, but before we get to that, let me tell you about my trip to Hong Kong for the past two weeks.

It’s a completely different world with so many people everywhere all the time and skyscrapers everywhere! I love that I can simply walk downstairs from my apartment and have 50 different restaurants and 5 different malls at my fingertips. That’s pretty much all I did for two weeks was eat, eat and eat. I got to try different foods like dim sum, snails, different kinds of seafood and buffets!

I also got the chance to reconnect with my family and spend the holidays with them. My mom’s side of the family is huge so it was really great to catch up with them once again. I got to do things that I normally wouldn’t have such as celebrating my grandma’s 90th birthday with a huge party for her and counting down New Years Eve at my cousin’s barbecue!

Though Hong Kong is my original home, I still got to become a tourist and visit some of the most popular attractions. My favourite places are The Peak or Victoria Harbour where the view of the skyline is just incredible. It’s something that everyone must see and kind of makes Vancouver look like a village.

I also got the chance to visit the big Buddha where you have to take a cable car to reach and a place that never fails to make me happy: Disneyland!

The last two weeks was a good getaway from all the stress and rain, but sometimes it was just too crazy and I did miss Vancouver a lot. If I could only merge the two cities together, it would be perfect!

How were your holidays? Did you go home to spend it with your family or stay in Vancouver?

Cheers,

Queenie

INTERNeX Canada: Upcoming events

2012 is gone forever!!!Such a good year for a lot of us! But 2013 could be even better!!!The PR team has a lot of events and activities planned for the first month of the year!!!

Next Wednesday we’ll have our pub night after Christmas, looking forward to see u all again and catch up!

And what about next weekend? do you have something in mind for Saturday 12th?

We propose you an awesome performance with Canadian and Spanish dancers called Project Barca!

The work deliberately uses the city of Barcelona as a vehicle, a barca, for new cross-Atlantic voyages of discovery and understanding, connecting to Vancouver, Canada, at the edge of the Pacific. Using the historic events of 1492 as a reference point it explores the concept of going west to find east, and by default going east to find west.

Check their trailer out to have a better idea of the project!

And for how much? The original price is 29$, 19$ for student! but INTERNeX people we can have a special deal if 8 or more of you wanna come and make it for JUST 14$!

Join us! And don’t miss out our next Pub night…surprises are coming!
Cheers,
Irene

INTERNeX Canada: Culture shock

Have you ever noticed how many different pills are in general in the supermarkets? All types of supplements, vitamins, minerals….

If you want to have bigger muscles, you can. If you want to get tan artificially, you can. If your hair is weak you can buy something to make it stronger! For all kind of problems, Canadians have millions of different pills! It’s insane!

I mean in Spain you can find some places where you can buy this kind of supplements, but it’s not usually to have so many in a regular Supermarket.

Now I am kind of used to see all this kind of pills next to the bread and cookies…mm good combination sugar and pills to lose weight!

I have to recognize that I am becoming Canadian and I have my own armament of vitamins… Now the next important step to do is remind to take them!

Sometimes it’s a good idea to take them, for example now in winter with just a couple of hours of sunlight could be good to take some vitamin D. But always with common sense (that sense that is not common to have)

Have nice day,

Cheers,

Irene
