What to do on the weekend

Another week has come to an end and here are some inspiration of what you can do this weekend:

Today INTERNeX is going to a Hockey Game tonight to see the Vancouver Canucks against Los Angeles Kings. This is going to be my first Hockey Game experience here in Vancouver and I am so excited! Luckily we got some tickets for this game and I really hope we can go and see another game very soon because we did’t get many tickets this time, but I am sure those who got the tickets this time will enjoy the game. I will let you know how our Hockey Game experience was on Monday 🙂

I can finally announce that Capilano Suspension Bridge opens for its “Canyon Lights” traditional light exposition on November 19th. I have been waiting for this moment as I believe many of us do. This is an on going event from November 19th – January 22nd where the world-famous Capilano Suspension Bridge is transformed into a magical world of changing multi-colour displays. Here you have the chance to experience a beloved tradition and celebrate the winter season in lights in beautiful Capilano Bridge Park and gaze the Capilano River below. This park offers something for everyone while you are walking here: you have the chance to find the perfect gift for you and your loved ones, Instagram-worthy photoshoots or enjoying a hot chocolate while you are walking high above the forest floor. If you want to explore this magical park, tickets are now available online 🙂 Make sure you don’t miss it out!!

Last but not least, I want to inspire you to experience Fly Over Canada which is made via advanced technology where you will experience a flight ride across Canada from coast to coast to coast while sweeping over Niagara Falls, vast prairies and massive mountain peaks to see Canada like never before. Its a ‘must do’ experience and especially if you have friends and family over they can explore beautiful Canada all without ever leaving Vancouver, or why not treat yourself an experience? 🙂

This was some inspiration for what you can do this weekend, and whatever you decide to do I hope you have a great weekend!

Cheers

Ida

New ‘Kids’ on the blog

This week we have some new candidates joining our INTERNeX Family! Let me introduce you to them! =)

Starting things off with Fran (short for Franziska). Fran is 24 years old, from a town near Cologne in Germany. Here in Vancouver, she’s doing her practicum for about 4 months at a company which runs its business in cultural development. Back home in Germany she’s currently studying multicultural communication at a university. After her internship she wants to go on a vacation for 1 month in Texas to meet a friend there. She chose Canada because she enjoys cold temperatures and the vibe they create. She skies since she was 3 years old and has a deep passion for the cold, plus she wanted a change of environment, which she’ll definitely have here in Vancouver. Unfortunately her first impression was influenced by a little sickness after her plane ride. It was totally different than she imagined it to be, but for the positive =). She thinks the culture and the people here are interesting. Since she loves the cold weather she really wants to go skiing. Another of her hobbies is photography which makes her want to travel around and go on adventures where she can collect memories with her camera, maybe she can start a blog with her pictures? I’d love to see that! Also on her list is watching a hockey game while she’s here. In her free time she also enjoys swimming or doing yoga, and when it comes to arts and crafts she likes to do macrame and DIY’s. The list of interests doesn’t end here, Fran also likes going to the movies. That calls for an INTERNeX movie night. When it comes to her favourite food she loves Pizza. Here in Vancouver she wants to try Beavertails and Canadian craft beer. We are happy to have Fran in our rows! =)

Moving on with Helena. Helena is 23 years old and comes from a town near Frankfurt in Germany. She’s here to do a 4 month-internship at a Hockey Club in Coquitlam. Back home she’s studying business administration online at a university in Stuttgart. After her studies and her time in Canada she wants to start working as a graphic designer. The reason she chose Canada is because Canada is the perfect fit for her: She can learn English, go skiing or watch a hockey game and also spend time in nature with super friendly people! Her first impression was that Vancouver is very big. She thinks that Vancouver is a mixture out of Germany, Austria and Italy because of the combination of things you can do here. I’ve never heard a comparison like that but I can tell it’s true! =) Except for watching an NHL game, she doesn’t really have a thing on her bucket list and just wants to go with the flow. In Germany she’s a supporter of the Ice Hockey team “Adler Mannheim”, she’s a real hockey girl, another reason Canada is the perfect country for her to visit. One of her favourite hobbies is to go to the movies once a week! For her favourite food she likes Italian food in general, what a good choice! Here she’d love to try Beavertails and some donuts. I suggested her the apple fritter from Tim Hortons, since that’s my favourite =). We are very glad we have Helena with us and that she will join our events!

Next we have Emma. She’s 19 years old from from a town in the south of Austria. Nice to see some other nationalities mixing up the Germans =)! In Vancouver she’s doing a practicum in the sports museum. Back home in Austria she graduated high school in 2021 and started studying business and economics but unfortunately it wasn’t the right decision for her and she decided to do a gap year here in Canada to gain some experience and grow beyond herself. During her time here she wants to find out which course she will be studying back home. She chose Canada as her gap year destination because the country has just so much to offer and the cultural diversity really fascinates her. Her first impression was very good since she thinks the city is very beautiful and also because it matches her imagination of the city. When it comes to her bucket list she really wants to visit Vancouver Island and experience the Vancouver lifestyle. I think Vancouver Island is a great choice! =) In her free time, Emma enjoys reading, cooking and also doing all kinds of sports. For her favourite food she likes a good Italian lasagna. We are so happy to have Emma with us and hope that she will have an amazing time in Canada!

We are very happy to have them on our events and in our INTERNeX Family! I hope that they enjoy the Tim in Vancouver but I’m pretty sure they will as everyone does!

Let’s meet them together at today’s Pubnight!

Cheers,

Tino

New ‘Kids’ on the blog

We have some new ‘kids’ on the blog again! Let me introduce you to them:

Let’s start with Leo. Leo is 18 years old and from Munich in Germany. Back home he just finished his high school and A-Levels. In Canada he’ll be studying business and communication in a college for 3 or 4 months. With this he hopes to improve his English. After his time in Vancouver, he wants to study business or law in Germany, but he hasn’t quite decided yet. He chose Canada because he wanted something different and not the ‘mainstream’ countries. Also, his cousin told him good things about Vancouver and he loved the vibe of Vancouver on pictures. When he got here, he experienced that all people are very relaxed & nice. He imagined the nature exactly as it is and got a warm welcoming feeling from the city. The things he really wants to see is Wreck Beach and Whistler. Since he’s staying during the winter, he really wants to go skiing. I think Whistler would be a nice choice for him =). He also wants to go to some sports events like ice hockey, or baseball. In his free time Leo likes to play soccer and tennis and visiting different cities. He loves playing his guitar and cooking as well. When it comes to his favourite food he prefers a good old traditional German Schnitzel with fries. Nevertheless, he wants to try lots of food here, like poutine, pancakes with maple syrup and some beaver tails! How awesome is that =) We are happy to have Leo with us!

Next on our list we have Jessica from Kiel in Germany. She’s 18 years old and has just finished her high school back home. She will be in Canada for 7 weeks and already traveled around here for 2 weeks where she saw places like Banff National Park. She’s now planning to go to Vancouver Island to work for a Wildlife Project in a rehabilitation centre for 5 weeks. She chose Canada because she wanted to be far away from home and to improve her English language skills. Of course she also loves being in nature which was another reason to pick this beautiful country. Her first impression of Vancouver was that it’s beautiful and that the people here are very friendly. During her time here, she discovered that she prefers nature over than living in the city. Nevertheless she thinks the city is pretty nice. Since she already was in Banff, she crossed one thing from her bucket list: The Rockies. Besides the Rocky Mountains, she also wants to visit Stanley Park and Granville Island. After her time in Canada she doesn’t really know what to do at home. She wants to take her time here to learn something about herself and figure out what she likes. In her free time she enjoys reading books and playing badminton and basketball. One of her favourite foods are dishes with pasta or potatoes. As a dessert, she likes to have some chocolate. In Vancouver she wants to try out some poutine and pancakes with maple syrup. I’m sure she can find many places to eat these Canadian Classics. =) Anyways, we are very glad to have her in our rows!

Let’s move on with Lukas. He’s 19 years old from a small town in the north of Germany. In Canada, he’ll go to a language school for about 2 months to improve his English, but he also got a working holiday visa to work here for 4 more months. Back home in Germany he just finished high school. When it came to deciding where he wants to go the organization gave him three options to choose from: Canada, New Zealand and Australia. He chose Canada because he thought that the others are too Mainstream =). Also nobody of his family was here before, so when he comes back he can tell them all about it! His first impression was that the city is very big but also very multicultural which he likes. One big thing on his bucket list are seeing bears, especially grizzlies, but also coming in touch with the Canadian culture and nature. Other things are seeing a hockey game and going skiing and surfing. After his time in Vancouver he wants to study Business Administration. In his free time he likes to play handball, going to the gym and meeting his friends, especially going out with them. His favourite food are ‘Spätzle’ with sauce, but here in Canada he wants to try some poutine and of course pancakes with maple syrup =). We are happy to have him in our rows and are excited for the events he’s going to join!

Last but definitely not least we have our work & travellers Marie and Lucas. They are both 24 years old and come from Braunschweig in Germany. They want to work and travel around Canada to meet new people and get to know the Canadian culture. They are not quite sure how long they are staying in Canada but maybe they want to apply for the young professional program to extend their time here. Marie was working as a kindergarten teacher back home and Lucas as a ski instructor. Lucas also worked in event marketing for a hiking brand. As they met at a fireplace in 2020 they talked about work & travelling in another country and both by coincidence were thinking about Canada =). As a ski instructor Lucas obviously wanted to work in the Rocky Mountains. But not only skiing is one of his interests, he also would like to go climbing. Marie always wanted to go Canada, the country is on top of her bucket list. Speaking of bucket lists, they both want to meet many people and make new friends here, but also see some ski resorts and nice natural environments.

Their first impression of Vancouver was that for a big city it’s quite clean and not too crowded. Also they mentioned that the people here are very nice. Since they want to work and travel they just want to go with the flow and didn’t make specific plans. When they eventually come back from Canada Marie wants to study film production and Lucas wants to become a teacher for sport and math. He also thinks about doing an apprenticeship to become a climbing instructor. In her free time Marie likes to hike on Sundays with her friends, seeing new places, and on top of that she also started to play soccer. Lucas just likes all kinds of sports like soccer, skiing, climbing, trail running and more. When it comes to their favourite food Marie likes rice pudding and for Lucas, since he’s vegetarian, Chili sin carne. 😉 In Canada they want to try out some poutine and beaver tails. We are very happy to have Marie & Lucas with us and wish them all the best for their journey!

These are our new kids on the blog! Be sure to meet them at the next Pubnight!

See you there!

Cheers,

Tino =)

How was the weekend?

This weekend was so amazing! Let me tell you what happened.

Let’s start with Friday. I went to another Vancouver Canucks game, this time they played against the Arizona Coyotes. The atmosphere and the people cheering for the Canucks were amazing. The team performed well in this game and won 4-0. One of the highlights was that the actress Cobie Smulders, who plays Robin Scherbatsky in the world famous sitcom “How I met your mother” was in the Rogers Arena to watch the game. When it comes to food I recommend the Nacho & Hotdog combination, trust me it’s so good! Hockey is a very special thing for Canadians, so be sure to check out one game while you’re here!

On Saturday, we had another great event for some of the Internexers. We went together in cooperation with Moose Travel Network to Joffre Lakes which is located in the north of Pemberton in British Columbia. We went for a hike with a group of 12. The first stop was at the lower lake of the three lakes we were about to see. It was beautiful with the mountains in the background and the sun shining through the leaves. Approximately one hour later after some steps and steep parts of the hike we arrived at the Middle Joffre Lake. There we saw even more beautiful scenery and landscape. The clear blue turquoise water and the trees around it in combination with the sun gives you a real Canadian wild life experience, which was amazing. There were even some super cute birds that would come and sit on your hand if you extended your arm. Not a moment that you experience often in your life! The trail guides you to the next sight of the hike which were the amazing Holloway Falls in the middle of the forest. After seeing the falls we completed the hike with the view of the third Upper Joffre Lake which was just breathtaking! Sitting on the rocks we had our lunch break, amazed by the beauty of nature! Some of us went even further down the trail to the point were the glacier of Mount Matier meets the water of the lake. We even learned why the lakes are so turquoise. The melting and rubbing of the glacier ice on the rocks of the mountains create a thing which is called rock powder. When the rock powder mixes with the melting water from the glacier and the sun shines through the water it reflects the sun and thus creates the turquoise colour. How amazing is that? As we hiked back we took many photos and got picked up again by our bus driver. What an amazing day!

Since in Canada Thanksgiving is celebrated on the 10th of October and many of the candidates got their own Thanksgiving at home in their hostfamilies, we thought about making our own INTERNeX Thanksgiving at the Kitsilano Beach with a potluck and a traditional turkey on Sunday. We had food like casseroles, chips with guacamole, salads, snacks, desserts, bread, turkey with stuffing, vegetables and other tasty things. We gathered with about 25 people and played some games, e.g. Kubb, soccer, basketball, volleyball and some card games. Everyone had so much fun and we celebrated the Thanksgiving all together, which was so amazing! Also the location at the Kitsilano Beach was great, together with the sunny weather you couldn’t tell if it’s summer in July or Thanksgiving in October. All in all it was an amazing event with lots of fun and laughs throughout the day.

To conclude, I can say that the whole weekend was packed with lots of fun events!

Let me know about your past weekend, or your plans for the upcoming one!

See you at PubNight,

Tino =)

New ‘Kids’ on the blog

Now, already one week later, we have other new kids joining our Internex Group!

Let’s start this one with Laura. She’s 19 years old from a town near Hamburg in Germany. She’ll be staying a whole year in Canada! The year consists of two parts, one with 6 months Work & Travelling which she wants to do in Whistler for some skiing or working at a clothing store. The other part is going to be a ranch stay, which she’ll be organizing in her work & travel time. 🙂 Back in Germany she just finished her finals. After Canada she wants to study something, maybe in the direction of art or architecture but she’s not sure yet. She chose Canada because she likes spending time in nature and heard that the people in Canada are very friendly. Also with Canada, a dream came true for her! We’re so glad to be part of that dream! Her first impression was that Vancouver is beautiful. She imagined the city even bigger than it actually is, but nevertheless she likes it here! (How can Vancouver not be the greatest city of all times?! :D) She definitely wants to go to the mountains and see a lot of the country. Back home she likes to ride her horse and sometimes to draw pictures. When it comes to food, she prefers Italian cuisine. Who doesn’t love some pasta, or pizza? 🙂 We’re happy to have Laura in Canada and hope she’ll have a great time here!

Next we have Nimai. He’s 21 years old and is originally from London in the UK. Right now, he’s doing an internship in Vancouver for about 2 months and wants to work in Whistler for about 6 months after. During his time here he’d also like to travel around Canada. At home, he just finished his studies in Geography & Business at the University of Nottingham (Robin Hood helped him I believe :)). After his time here in Canada, he wants to do something with real estate. As we asked, why he picked Canada, he was answering: “Why not?” – That’s the spirit! 🙂 Also he chose Canada because of its Nature, Scenery and the transition of being in the city and the mountains. His first impressions were that the people here are very friendly and caring and that he didn’t need much time to get used to the way of life here, which I can definitely support. The number one thing he wants to see while he’s here are the Rockies. Back home he likes to do any kind of sport and listen to music, as well as playing the piano and the drums. In Vancouver, he really wants to try out typical pancakes with maple syrup. I think he’ll easily find a spot e.g. at a diner to try those! =) Anyways we are very happy that he’s in Vancouver and that he can create a unique experience here.

Let’s move on with Seb. Seb is 24 years old and is also originally from the UK. Let’s try to pronounce his city correctly: Worcestershire. So how’d you do? =) Just kidding. Seb is also doing an internship here and wants to have a paid-job after. He’s staying until December and then from February until July. He just finished his studies in Politics & Spanish at the University of Warwick. After his time here, he wants to do something in Consulting. He chose Canada because he never was in North America and also the Visa here is pretty nice. Of course, he wants to explore, travel and meet new people. His first impression was that all the people here are very friendly and he also got a good and safe vibe from the city. One thing he really wants to do is to go to Vancouver Island and to see the nature of British Columbia. I think he must join us on our trip this weekend :D. In his free time he likes playing hockey and lots of other sports. He’s also going to the gym and he likes listening to music. In Canada, he really wants to try some pancakes with maple syrup and poutine! We’re very happy we got Seb in our rows.

Next we have Anna. She is 18 years old and originally from Hamburg in Germany. She just graduated high school and while she’s here in Vancouver she will take a two week language course before her work starts in Stanley Park. She’s been to Vancouver Island before and has always wanted to know what life is like on the mainland. She also tells me that her first impression of Vancouver is great with the beautiful nature surrounding this big city and the friendly people that are living here. Her hobbies are horseback riding and she’d like to go to Whistler to ski. We are glad she is here with us!

Next up we got Sydney. She’s 20 years old and lives in Germany, more specifically in Mainz. She wants to do some work & travel here in Canada. At home she just finished the theoretical part of her finals and wants to work maybe with kids or at a medicine company to complete the practical part of her finals. She picked Canada because she loves being in the snow. She’s a great winter fan, with the romantic and cozy vibe, hot chocolate and the freezing cold outside. Her first impression was very good, because she could see some wildlife, forests and some parts of the city outside her airplane window. Sydney doesn’t really have anything on her bucket list, because she wants to stay spontaneous and goes with the flow. I think that’s also a nice way to experience Canada =). Back home she loves listening to the music of Billie Eilish, to dance and do some sports like fitness or handball. In her free time, she enjoys making some music like EDM or Techno. When it comes to food, she likes vegetarian and vegan food. I think she will surely find some nice food places here in Vancouver. We are happy to have her here, and that she can experience Canada with us together! 🙂

Let me introduce you to Steffi. Steffi is a 20 year old living between Hamburg and Bremen. She’s going to do some work & travel in Canada and currently lives at a homestay. Back home, she just finished her finals and wants to study German & French or English at the University in Göttingen to become a teacher one day. Steffi wanted to go to a summer camp before deciding to come to Canada because she wanted to celebrate finishing her finals back in Germany next year, but we’re glad she made the decision to come to Vancouver instead! Her first impression of the city was that it wasn’t quite big in the beginning. When she took the Expo Line of the Skytrain for the first time she really felt included into the Canadian community. Nevertheless, she has some things on her bucket list which she really wants to see, for example she wants to see some Grizzly Bears and meet as many people as possible. Also she wants to go to 7 Eleven, and try some pancakes with maple syrup somewhere. I hope she can fulfill all the points on her bucket list! In her free time she enjoys going on hikes, on vacation, watching a series, and she likes to read all kinds of books. She really enjoys vegetarian food and more specific pasta. I believe there are some spots that can fulfill her taste =). Anyways, we are glad to have Steffi here in Vancouver and that she can join us on our events.

Here we have Lena. She’s 19 years old from Munster in Germany. She recently finished high school and is here in Vancouver for three months to gain practical experience within the International Film Festival. She tells me that she’d always wanted to go to Canada to see some sights, the nature, the mountains but also the city. The things on her bucket list while she’s here are to see the nature of Canada, go hiking, see grizzly bears and to eat traditional Canadian pancakes with maple syrup. In her free time she enjoys horseback riding, playing the piano, hanging out and meeting friends. After Canada she is thinking of studying to become an architect. So cool in my opinion! She loves eating pizza and pasta and also to try some new food :). We are excited to have Lena on our events and to share some time with her here in Canada =)

We are happy to introduce these new Kids to you and hopefully you’ll get the chance to meet them at todays PubNight!

Cheers,

Tino & Ida =)
