How was your Weekend?

No #Raincouver this weekend and we definitely made the best out of it. But no matter if it’s raining or the sun is shining, Vancouver is beautiful with all it’s faces 😉 (Seems like I am getting very emotional these days).

However the INTERNeX group definitely knows how to appreciate sunshine and therefore we packed our bags and started our Saturday morning fairly early to make the way up to Cypress Mountain. (Or at least most of us …. right Martin? And as you can see in the picture here, this is what you get for being late for the group picture :D). GroupwithMartin.jpg
As the ride itself is already stunning, we had a lot to do with simply looking outside the window and enjoying the scenery. As we reached the mountain we were beyond excited to get ourselves tied up in those snowshoes and hike as we were not to be stopped by anything or anyone.
But it turned out to be a lot harder to find the actual rental place, than expected.
With my mouth wide open and my eyes widened, I had to accept the fact that we had a 30 minute walk ahead of us, to eventually get back down the mountain. Great. But hey, walking was exactly what we were here for anyways right?!

Luckily we are in Canada and the people are just too friendly to be true. As we started to make our way down the mountain, a bus driver stopped right next to us and offered us a lift down to the nordic area – lucky us :-D.
After getting a short introduction of how to apply those things to our feet, we were good to go. Some of us more than others.
I think after about 2 minutes, I already faced the snow .. “it’s as easy as walking” they said, “you won’t even notice them on your feed” they said … well apparently I don’t know how to walk then. 😀 11669e83-6b31-4eca-8b91-4526104a7496.JPG
For the next few hours we found ourselves wandering through the beautiful forest and breathtaking sceneries. Of course there was the one or other race in between to spice things up a bit. And as we felt more advanced on the Snowshoes we even did our favourite line dance with them – we are truly loyal to the one and only Yale Saloon :-D.
The way down the mountain turned out to be way more challenging than the way up. I don’t think there was a single one of us who didn’t sit or lay in the snow at least once. And thanks to that I’ve got like thousands of videos on my phone that will entertain me for a long time.

9e0e4d56-a6f0-451a-a601-33ce259e3d5d.JPGFinally, we had the chance to sit together over a few snacks and talk and laugh together.
All that is left to say is – thank you vey much, it’s been such a fantastic day. I had so much fun, and I would like to quote William here: “We were all strangers to each other, now we are friends with memories.” And damn you are so right with that.
Therefore, thank you very much for being simply great!
(As I said, slightly getting emotional this week)
Sunday was the day of the Super Bowl, but to be honest, you guys will have to tell me how that went, cause I’ve got absolutely no idea.
But I am sure you’ll tell me what I missed this Wednesday at the Yale Saloon.

Hello Monday!

Hello Monday, Hello INTERNeXer!
I am sorry, for being so awfully quiet these past days. Due to a personal reason, I had to step back for a few days.
However I am back on track now, so lets see what happened these past days. There was a lot going on, so here is a quick overview of the breaking news:

(While reading the following part, please imagine a deep, male voice, reading it to you in a overly dramatic way and a typical breaking news music in the back).

>>INTERNeX became very famous among the Chinese community in Vancouver; Vancouver didn’t know how to stop – we wanted snow, we got snow and catastrophically panicking INTERNeXer, what is going on?!  Read more to get all the juicy details 😉
Starting off, with the new cultural extension we’ve currently reached in social media. Yes, as you might have seen. The weekly INTERNeX events reached an outstanding new level. 460 people responded to this weekends event of the Chinese News Years Celebration together with the INTERNeX gang! Apparently putting myself in the mouth of a Chinese dragon, is the secret to successful marketing on Social Media ;). So if you are planning on going this weekend, you better be there early. The McDonalds entrance of the International Mall might be incredibly packed :P.

Moving on to the incredible amount of snow, surprising Vancouver last week. If you got the chance to actually leave your house last Wednesday, you can count yourself to the lucky ones – or not, depending on your perspective. Walking through downtown, kinda brought up memories of the first episodes of The Walking Dead. No, there weren’t any zombies involved, no blood or any of that nasty stuff, it was more like we’ve already moved past that stage. Vancouvers Downtown was quieter and more peaceful than I have ever seen it before. Basically no cars, no busses and no people were on the streets and everything was covered in beautiful, calming white. And there was no end in sight! I absolutely loved it, but easy to say for someone who doesn’t depend on public transport right?!
I hope you got to enjoy the beautiful white as much as I did. And I am absolutely sure you did, as most of you got a “snow-day” anyways.

And of course, this post is also meant to calm down all the panicking INTERNeXer among you! I know I have been triggering your nerves extremely.
I have been challenging you and I have been testing your patience to the last bit! But now I finally got very good news for you people.
As I wasn’t in the office these past days I wasn’t able to put the information online concerning the upcoming Pub-Night. My deepest apologies for that, I know you have been waiting for this ever since the last Pub-Night was over and especially because some of you weren’t even able to join because of the snow!
Anyways, Pub-Night is not cancelled nor did I forget about it (how could I, it’s always been my priority :P).
This weeks Pub-Night will be at ‘The Two Parrots’ on Granville Street. We’ll meet there at 7pm. And the best part is, that all minors are more than welcome to join as well. So please don’t forget to bring your ID’s.
Have a wonderful week.
See you soon!
Cheers,

New ‘Kids’ on the Blog

It’s finally time to meet our three new travellers joining the INTERNeX family this week!
Luckily you’ve got enough time to read all about our new girls, now that most of you are stuck at home anyways. Yes right, that is another funny story – Vancouver and snow? No Nadja, don’t even hope for it, it won’t happen anyways. Here we are, public transport being cancelled and downtown in chaos as if an apocalypse is about to happen.
So I got my day started with a little snow-hike to actually get to work.
Anyways, this is not about me ;).
Let’s take a look at the three newbies.
image1Starting of with Kris, she is a Canadian expert already. As she used to live here during her exchange year in high school. Very impressive and the living proof, that people are always coming back to our beloved Canada at some point. Kris found herself a second family during her last stay, which made the accommodation pretty easy this time! We are very glad, that you decided to also join the INTERNeX family! Welcome home!
The next new addition is Julia. Just as Kris, she came all the way from Germany to gain some precious work experiences over here. And a very interesting fact is, that she already stayed in Korea for quite a while. I hope, you are prepared to answer many questions about that, because personally I am very very interested to hear all about that. Besides getting to know the city life of Vancouver, Julia also has Seattle and Victoria on her bucket list. So if you have any kind travel advices or must sees, I am sure she will appreciate it!
Our last newbie of the week, is not from Germany for a change, but from Austria! Lovely Sophie over here, just finished high school and is taking her time off now to figure out what she wants. Great choice to come here Sophie, and what this will be a great and unique experience – I can promise you that. But be careful, Vancouver or Canada in general are very addictive :). As this is her first long-time stay abroad, lets make her feel like home already.

I am sure you guys are going to love these three lovely ladies!
And ladies, don’t worry, the INTERNeX family is always happy to welcome the new members <3.
Obviously I would love to see you guys at tonights Pub-Night at Steamworks at 7pm. But as the snow continues to fall (like crazy btw), please keep in mind that your safety is the priority here. Please consider that before  leaving the house tonight.
If there are an questions/problems whatever don’t hesitate to contact us!
I hope to see you soon.
Cheers,
— Nadja  xx

New “Kids” on the Blog!

New Year. New Week. New “Kids”!
So let’s send out a warm welcome to the first 4 candidates of 2020.
Yes 4 candidates, a fantastic start into the year, even if we are still trying to get over the heartbreaking goodbyes we had to face just before and after Christmas.
Heads up to the future:

8ca54f1d-eab8-4e40-b3d5-f4da7ff71410Starting of with our lovely Laura here (first on the right hand side), 24 years old and from Germany. Laura is taking part in the Practicum Program, but not just in any placement … nooo, all I am saying is, it’s got a lot to do with chocolate! So besides being everyones new best friend, Laura is planing on keeping herself busy and get to see as much as possible. In fact she already spent the last 5 months in Ottawa, so almost a Canada expert I’d say! So now the Rocky Mountains, Vancouver Island and many more are still on her bucket list. And rumours occur she is still looking for some travel companions ;-).

Next up are the twins. Okay well, maybe not exactly twins, maybe not even siblings, or even the same age – but I like it, so I’d say we just go with it.
Nathalie and Victoria are also from Germany and came here to take part in the Practicum program as well. These two power-ladies came here together and are gonna stay for the next three months. Also they are working in the same placement which is a child development centre. (Do you see now where I am coming from?! :P). Victoria has actually been here in our beautiful Vancouver before, but as 3 days just weren’t enough (I think we all agree on that with you Victoria), she decided that she had to come back. I am glad your plans have worked out ;-).
From there these two are planning on doing some travelling and already have a very exciting trip planned to Hawaii at the end of their stay … I am very very jealous! So if you guys find some space in your luggage, I’d be more than happy to squeeze in!

To complete the German squad of the week, we’ve got Christian joining us as well. He is one of our Work&Travelers and therefore obviously up for facing some great adventures.
Christian got inspired by his French-teacher to come and visit this beautiful country, oh yeah right he also speaks French, as he has lived there in the past 3 months. Very impressive! So if you are lucky, you might get to catch up with your french skills in the upcoming 5 months. Unfortunately after that he will have to go back to Germany to go to University.

Therefore guys, don’t loose any time and meet these 4 fantastic newbies at tonights Pub-Night at the La Casita.
Same as always – 7pm, two pieces of ID and minors are welcome!

Can’t wait to see you ❤

Cheers,

— Nadja xx

How was your Weekend?

The first full week of January is about to start, and this means for most of you – let’s get back to work!
Let’s do it guys!

This weekend the INTERNeX crew went to the Stanley Park Brewery. Located right in Stanley Park (as the name might have spoilered already), this very romantic, beautiful place provided us a beautiful evening.

IMG_5613.JPGWe got to eat a fantastic dinner and of course got try out some different sort of beers brewed right there. One fly included 4 different kinds of beers, which you got to choose from a menu of 16 different beers. A variety I was clearly overwhelmed with. Whereas others actually made  logical decision based on the very fancy descriptions for every beer, I sticked to trusting the waiter with all my heart or just going for wild, slightly random picks. Cleary I am not a professional beer taster yet, even tho this little fancy glasses made you feel like one.  However, have you ever tried Coffee-beer? I just loved it, so in case you don’t know what to choose, this is definitely something I can recommend. And trust me, I actually sounds wilder than it tastes.

After the dinner we went on to The Cambie, where we went back to the beer-classics and had some nice chats, while listening to a bit strange mix of music.
Thank you guys for a lovely Saturday!

Next weekend we will be playing Lasertag, so whoever isn’t afraid to face my very professional ninja-skills is more than welcome to sign up for it on Facebook. And yes, once again  you will have to agree to this very huge and intense commitment of clicking the going button on Facebook (I know I am asking a lot here), if you want to be part of this battle of a century.

If you have any question you can always message us or ask me at this weeks Pub-Night at the La Casita!

Have a wonderful week,

Cheers
