INTERNeX Canada: Holy Labor Day!

Long weekend, that´s what most of you are thinking right now. Yeahhhhhh !! We are celebrating today the Labor Day !!

Labor Day  is an annual holiday celebrated along the globe to celebrate the achievements of workers.

This excellent day has its origins in the  labor union movement. (Specially the “eight-hour day” movement, which defended  eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours for rest)

For many countries, Labor Day is  linked with the International Workers´ Day (May 1st) .

For some other countries, Labour Day is celebrated on a different date  than May 1st;  often one with special significance for the labour movement in that country.

In Canada, this day is celebrated today: the first Monday of September and is considered the official end of the summer holiday for most of the country, as public school and university students return to school that week or the following week.

I hope you enjoy this day, and if you want you can comment and tell us what´s the best way to spend the Labor Day !!

P.S. Just remember guys, that today  our office will be closed. 😉

Best,

Mercedes

Thank God It’s Friday!

It is Friday again, which normally means: WEEKEND. However, today it is Good Friday, so probably some of you have a day off today! Easter is also right around the corner – it falls on Sunday April 24. So what are you going to do this Easter Weekend? Here are some tips for the people who have no plans yet!

—————————————————————————————————————————-

VANCOUVER

Who doesn’t want to celebrate Easter with the Easter bunny, Easter egg hunts and all sorts of games? Maybe it is not for everyone, however if you would like to get the real Easter feeling, you should go to Stanley Park and celebrate ‘Easter in the park’. There will be an Easter egg hunt for all ages. Also, they will have a train riding on the park’s famous miniature railway. This event starts today (Friday April 22) and runs until Monday, April 25th. It starts at 11 am till 4 pm. It will probably be quite sunny this Saturday, so it will be a good day to go the park anyway :D. Don’t forget to bring your Easter basket!

WHISTLER

We have already post about this last weekend, however the TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival is still running until this weekend. This year the TWSSF will celebrate its sweet sixteen and they will do it in style. It’s a really big event full of snowboarding, skiing, snow, partying and fun! Their main slogan is: ‘‘Party in April, Sleep in May’. Live it, breathe it, believe it. The festival started April 15 and the last day of the festival will be this Sunday the 24th.

REVELSTOKE

For the sporty people under us in Revelstoke, there is the Annual Stoke to Spoke Race. This is a triathlon involving snowboarding or skiing, biking and navigating an obstacle course to the finish line. When reached the finish line they will have to chug a beverage. This annual race has been held to celebrate the transition from winter to spring. You can compete either as individual or in teams of three. Of course there are also prizes to win, for the top three finishers in solo and team categories, along with best costume and best wipeout, and also the oldest and youngest competitors.
The festival starts at 8.30 am and will end around 4 pm. Go and cheer for the participants or just enjoy the live music by Cornstarr.
—————————————————————————————————————————–

Hopefully everyone will enjoy their (long) weekend! Let me know what you are going to do this weekend? Or if you have any tips for the other candidates please share them with us by leaving a comment :D.

Have a good weekend everyone and Happy Easter to you all!

Cheers,
Claudia

Eat Chilli and enjoy Blues – All at the Same time!

Jump Blues. Boogie. Rockabilly. Shuffle. Gospel…and Chili. The 2nd Annual Gastown Blues & Chili Festival has it all! on Sunday September 19th from noon to 7 pm you can enjoy showcases from several local up-and coming and high profile musicians throughout the day.

What better way to combine music than with food! Gastown is know for it’s talented chefs and the Gastown Blues & Chili Festival is a great way to put the chefs to the test. Several local celebrity judges will decide who can make the best Chili in town. The winning batch will be available for sampling by everyone!

Last year, almost 5,000 visitors came to enjoy the good music and food. Twenty Gastown area restaurants and the Vancouver Fire Department participated in the Chili Competition, and the day was capped off with a performance from Blues legend, Jim Byrnes. I for one am very curious to see what they have planned for this year! For more information, click here

The Gastown Blues & Chili Festival is a celebration of community businesses, local residents, and will raise funds for a local music-based charity. A carnival-type atmosphere with games, a beer tent and other entertainment is guaranteed to have both young and old enjoying the vibe!

Don’t miss Gastown Blues & Chili Fest – But be sure not to eat to much chili to spoil your appetite! At 6.30 pm the PoT LuCK at the Staffhouse will start! For directions to the house, email us at pr@internexcanada.com

Is Canada on your bucket list?

As I was reading through the paper this morning, pictures of the annual “Running of the Bulls” festival in Spain filled the pages. As I flipped through the photographs, I couldn’t help but think that although some of people looked terrified (who wouldn’t with a 2,800 pound bull chasing them) – they had crossed something off of their bucket list, and it got me thinking.

What’s on my bucket list? What things do I want to conquer with every ounce of my being before my time here is over? This year alone has brought so many firsts for me and I really look forward to what the next six months will bring. If you’re reading this, that means you’re on the other side of the computer screen. You may already be in Canada or maybe you’re still in your home country. Either way, take the time to write down 5 adventurous things you want to do in your life, or how about this year!

If you’re not in Canada, then is visiting here on your bucket list? Do you want to see this beautiful country and experience the sight of mountains and city in the same glance? You can do it if you set your mind to it, and you can also come here on an internship, work placement or volunteer opportunity through any of INTERNeX’s programs.

What’s on my bucket list? (Not in any order)

Swim with sharks

Try Fencing

Play a round of golf in Scotland

Drink a round of beers in Scotland

Bungee jump

Solve a rubix cube

Skydive

Visit Africa

Get my motorcycle license

and Live in New Zealand.

Those are just a few things on my list of things to accomplish in my lifetime, and this list is always growing. In my opinion, it should never stop, because you are never done exploring and trying new things! So, start writing YOUR bucket list!

More about the Running of the Bulls Festival:

Every morning of the festival at 8 a.m., six bulls are guided through the narrow, medieval streets of Pamplona by an equal number of large steers — each wearing a clanking cowbell — whose task is to keep the pack tight and galloping at an even pace.

The run covers 930-yards (850-meters) from a holding pen on the edge of town to the central bull ring where the bulls will face matadors and almost certain death in the afternoon.

The final bull, a massive red-colored beast called Gavioto from the renowned Jandilla ranch, was coaxed into a pen at the bullring, the final destination. In the ring, Gavioto tossed a man in the air, partially removing his trousers with the tip of his right horn.
