WHAT TO DO ON THE WEEKEND?

Another week is nearly over aaaand it’s time to get out and enjoy the weekend. Still haven’t decided what to do? Don’t panic I have some suggestions for you:

My weekend is already fully booked and according to the forecast it seems like we will all have awesome weather for some outdoor activity. Since it’s supposed to be very nice on Saturday I’m going to see a horse race at the Hastings Racecourse. You also would like to see a horse race during your time here? So than you have to be very quick! It will be the last horserace weekend for this year. The season ends in October and first starts in April 2016 again. I’m actually really excited because it’s obviously something you don’t do that often.IMG_1827

For those who haven’t done the “standard-tourist-activities-stuff” yet you should definitely make use of the weather by going to Stanley Park, Grouse Mountain,
Queen Elizabeth Park or Granville Island. These are amazing places where you have a gorgeous view on the skyline of Vancouver.

To get into the Halloween mood you should absolutely join the walking tours organized by Forbidden Vancouver. On Friday “The Lost Souls of Gastown”-walking tour is only available at 7:00pm; the other departure times are already full booked. 6511936281_baaf4f47d0_bThe tour lasts approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. For Sunday you still have the opportunity to choose between the 7:00pm and 8:00pm tour. The tickets are around $22. You are transported back to the 1800s when Vancouver was a frontier town with lots of violence. Do not expect a conventional walking tour! You get to know Vancouver,
especially surroundings in Gastown, a little better with some of its dramatic, terrible and forgotten plagues.

Don’t miss our Aquarium event on Sunday! The Aquarium is located in the beautiful Stanley Park.If you’re a student, above 18 years of age and have a student card, you’ll be able to enter the aquarium for ~ $20. 12463370883_aefdac5219_bIf you do not have a student card it’s ~ $29. The aquarium hosts a huge number of different animals ranging from colorful fish to penguins, and there’s always various activities going on at the aquarium. Currently there is a special offer: You save $2 on admission when you display a valid transit pass, such as a FareCard (monthly pass).

We will meet up at 1:30pm at the bus stop WB w Pender St NS Granville St.

INTERNeX Canada: Vancouver Aquarium

How about some relaxing after a hard week of work at the Vancouver Aquarium. The Vancouver Aquarium features a 4D Experience, a meeting with African penguins and a beluga or dolphin show.

The Vancouver Aquarium is a non-profit society, passionate about conserving the aquatic life. Their shows are developed around the animals’ natural behaviors and therefore will no show ever be the same. A day at the Vancouver Aquarium can be best described as a ‘relaxed learning experience’. We will have a great time watching the underwater creatures doing what they are best at, swimming.

When: Saturday 8 February, 11:00am

Where: Vancouver Aquarium 845 Avison Way

See here for more information about the event

Hope to see you all on Saturday!

INTERNeX Canada: PuB NiGHT Review!

Picture time -smile!

Last night we gathered at the Library Square Public House for another round of drinks! It was really nice catching up again after a crazy fun night last Friday at the Pint. We talked about the upcoming trip to the Canadian Rocky Mountains! If you are interested, message us or come by the office! Our discussion during the night included so many topics like birthday traditions from different countries to our boring and quiet lives before INTERNeX pub nights and events!

And after feeling ashamed that I ordered tea and water during the previous pub nights, I decided to redeem myself by ordering one of the contemporary cocktails which were on special for just $6.50. I have to say, it was the most watered down, bitter, and strange tasting cocktail I have ever had. I truly regret ordering this drink. Some of the others ordered different cocktails, but they all seemed to agree that it was horrible. After adding some things to make the drink sweeter, it tasted a lot better than the first sip. Lesson learned: stay true to your self…and stick to what you like.

Just in case you might make the same mistake, here is a photo:

As for the place itself,  I thought it was cozy with the small tea lights on our tables. Also, we were seated at the back of the pub which made it more private. The music was really great, especially The Look by Metronomy! I think it’s my favorite song for this week!

For those of you who missed our pub night, you better have a good excuse 😉 but that’s okay you can make up for it when we visit the Vancouver Aquarium this Saturday. Check our Facebook event for more information!

Happy Thursday!

Cheers,

Flora

INTERNeX Canada: News/ Fun facts

All candidates take care! The PR team is coursed! Every single beach-day we have planned had to be cancelled! Do you know why? Yes, it is not difficult imagine the motive! Rain! It couldn´t be anything more!

In Spain just rains some days in the winter and when it does, we just stay at home (mm blessed nap) but here it´s absolutely normal “to live among” the rain!

The record of consecutive days of rain in Vancouver is 28 days set in January 1953, but googling a little bit about the rain in Vancouver you will get surprised that it is not on the top ten lists of rainiest cities of the world!

In fact the most of the rainiest cities are in “paradisiac places” as Reunion Island, Cook Island Fiji or Thailand!

The classic picture of Fiji where appears somebody extra tanned lying in a hammock taking a margarita in front of a paradisiac beach show just one face of the real Fiji!

I am sure that if we moved there and organize some beach day will appear the other face of Fiji!

Another curious thing is that there are different microclimates with important differences in the same Vancouver! Do you live in North Vancouver? Oh you definitely get more rain! There is a general rule which say that for every rise of 100 meters in elevation, there is an additional 100 millimeters of precipitation!

Do you know how many days it usually rains? Vancouver averages 166 days of raining! That means one every three days! Summer used to be dryer, so it will rain almost every day in winter! It is logical that Vancouver is also known as Raincouver!

But there is always a good plan to do in Vancouver even it´s raining! You can go to the aquarium, the salmon hatchery, the theatre and a lot of other places… it´s impossible to get bored here!

Cheers

Irene
