Rockies Review – Part 1

Starting the week on a Wednesday sounds pretty cool, right? Well, wait till I tell you about my weekend, because that was even cooler than just having a three working-day week.

On Saturday morning, I met 27 of you guys for our four-day trip to the Rocky Mountains. 6.45am seems pretty early, but the time that was lying ahead of us was worth the hustle of getting up so early. The bus took off at 7.30am and our adventure started. We got to know our West Trek tour-guide Hayley and bus-driver Lucien, who made this entire trip so much fun! Thank you to the two of you.

Our first stop was Hope, where we had some fun times at the playground and could 30066245188_6ae9f9a804_njust walk around the picturesque village. Aboard the coach again, we played some games, listened to music and started to get to know each other better. We had lunch in Kamloops and made a short stop at the Spahats Falls. And so, after a 9-hour drive in the bus, we finally arrived at our first night’s stay in Valemount. The evening activity there: Hockey in the Rockies. Teamed up and ready to win, both the “Pride Dragons” and “Tigers” chased the ball to score some goals.

While some of you were still playing, I settled down at the bonfire and enjoyed the last hours of our first day. We had some easy conversations, listened to Hayley playing the Ukulele, sang along to ‘Riptide’ and ‘Country Roads’ and just enjoyed the view of the mountains. At around 1am I decided to get some sleep, because I knew that we had a tight and busy schedule the upcoming days.

On Sunday morning at 7.45am, it was time for us to depart from Valemount. It was a stressful morning and I was quite relieved that I did not have to sing when I boarded the coach (the West Trek rule is that the person coming late has to sing a song for the entire bus). We had our first scenic Rocky Mountains stop at Mt. Robson. It is the highest mountain in the Canadian Rockies and it gave us the opportunity to have a breakfast with a view. 43887208892_9da7cf5a2b_nAfterwards, we all had the chance to take beautiful pictures with this giant mountain in the background. We boarded the bus again and drove to our next stop: The Athabasca Falls. Even though we had to leave quite soon after we arrived, everyone had the chance to take a stunning picture of and/or with the falls.

But the next stop promised some more breathtaking views: Athabasca Glacier. Already on our way to the icy phenomenon, Hayley taught us about the formation of glaciers and the relation to icefields. From the distance, we could see the Columbia Icefield, which is one of the biggest accumulations of ice south of the arctic. Some of us went up the glacier in a special bus called snowcoach. Personally, I did not join. Some of you just spent the time at the foot of the Glacier with me, having lunch and hiking through the moraine.

After the “Snowcoach-Group” returned, we boarded the bus again and continued the trip to Peyto Lake. Wow, what a beautiful place! The water was turquoise blue and the view was just breathtaking. Another perfect location to take stunning pictures your friends will envy you for. 😉 After this stop, we just had one more task to fulfil: The Polar Bear Swim in Bow Lake!43887208762_52b91d2c09_n The bravest among us got ready to be cooler than they’ve ever been before. Of course, you’ve always been cool, guys – but I think you know what I mean. So, to visualize it: 20 crazy INTERNeX-people running into ice-cold water, screaming at the top of their lungs and cheering with the kicking-in of adrenalin. FUN! Great job to those who did it! I really enjoyed it and can only recommend doing it.

Back in the bus, we were all looking forward to making it to our accommodation for the night in Banff: a cute, beautiful little village. We spent the evening having dinner, shopping souvenirs and getting ready for our night out. And besides celebrating the great group and the new friendships we made, we also had a special anniversary that night: Henrike turned 19! Happy birthday, again. I hope you had an unforgettable night. I walked back to the hotel at around 1am, I did not want to be too tired the next day.

To not overwhelm you with everything, I will tell you about the last two days tomorrow. Make sure you don’t miss out on the blog post!

I hope to see you tonight for PuB NiGHT at the Beaver Bar.

Rockies Trip Spring Review II

The second morning was another early morning, we had breakfast at 7:45 and hat to be in the bus at 8:15. Too bad for our German boyband that they were just seconds too late, lucky for us that we did not have to sing. No worries the boyband did a great job in singing “Mamor Stein und Eisen bricht” and got some back up from the other Germans in the bus.

Our first stop of the day was at Mount Robson, the highest point in the Rockies and the second highest peak in British Columbia. We were luckily to see the top of the mountain for a couple of minutes before it disappeared in the clouds again. We shot some nice pictures and headed towards Jasper for a lunch break.

Jasper is a nice town, which get really crowed in the summer because it is so close to all the outdoor activities. Some of us stopped in the grocery store to get some food, others went into to a restaurant or walked down to Subway. After a short break and enjoying the sunshine it was time to get into to bus again and drive to our next stop.

The next stop was at the Athabasca Falls. This waterfall is not known because of its heights, but it is known for its force du to the large quantity of water falling into the gorge. It was a stunning view, especially the color of the water was very picturesque. After walking around the fall and seeing it form all different point we had to get back to the bus to drive to the Columbia Icefield.

The Columbia Icefield is one of the largest accumulations of ice and snow south of the Arctic Circle. We drove in a snow coach, which is especially made for this and there are only 24 of those buses, up to a snow field were the wind was blowing crazy and it was freezing could and of course we all were again prepared super good with or sneaker and thin jackets on! It was a great experience, but I think everybody was happy when we were back in the bus again.

Our next stops were at the Waterfowl Lake and Bow Lake before we ended our day in Banff. In Banff we stayed at the Mt. Royal Hotel and some of us went out for dinner, pizza, McDonalds, Steaks and Ribs were on the menu. Afterwards we went out to a pub for some pre-drinks before we headed out to the Night Club for some crazy dancing.

What was your favorite part of the second day?

INTERNeX Canada: INTERNeX goes Rockies – Summer Edition – Review!

Wherever you spent our long weekend, we hope it was a blast! For some of the INTERNeX candidates and the PR team it was probably one of the best weekends ever in Canada! Fantastic, awesome, beautiful – breathtaking nature, flash mob, campfire, BBQ, Jägerbombs!!!

17 of us joined West Trek for their famous Rocky Mountains tour. The party bus picked us up in Vancouver on Friday morning and we started our Rockies adventure. Lee, our tour guide, made sure we had four days of party party party during our stops and in the bus. He entertained us with games and jokes (supriiiiise…!) and made us dance, sing and love the Backstreet Boys again! We learned a lot about Canadian nature and the Rockies as Lee shared interesting facts and experiences with us. Did you know that there is a lake monster living in BC? Ogopogo didn’t show himself but a bear crossed our way!

We stopped our ongoing bus party to see the most beautiful spots of the Rocky Mountains! Mount Robson, the highest peak of the Canadian Rockies, and Athabasca Falls were some of the distinctive natural wonders of the mountains. Between the peaks the mountain lakes revealed all their incredible beauty. I am sure Lake Louise and Moraine Lake are among the most beautiful places on earth. The water is so blue it could easily compete with the bluest skies that we were lucky to have the whole weekend. We couldn’t resist jumping into these clear blue lakes. With water temperature just around 5 to 8°C it was a very extreme refreshment but when will you get a chance to swim in a Rocky Mountains lake again? Even colder was the glacier ice of the Columbia Icefields that gave us an impression of the eternal winters in the Rockies.

In the evenings we had BBQ dinners with the best view of the mountains and our party nights lasted until the morning! The hockey and pub night taught us to play street hockey and Canadian drinking games. Our club night in one of the most famous places in Canada was just mind-blowing – Banff was one hell of a party! A tasteful breakfast the next morning on top of the mountain was just right to get us going for the next day. Our last night at the campfire was an amazing open-air party where people mingled and had a lot of fun together.

All of us were from different countries but all the fun, the mountains and especially our incredible tour guide Lee brought us all together! It was such an aaaamazing and unforgettable trip!!

Leave a comment (or Call Me Maybe!) and tell us how YOU experienced the Rocky Mountains!

Cheers,

Xenia

INTERNeX Goes Rockies – Review (Part I)

Hi everyone! All enjoyed your long weekend? We went to the Rocky Mountains for 4 days with a group of 25 INTERNeX candidates. It was amazing! Here a review of the first 2 days!

Day 1
Last Friday we all met at 7 AM in Downtown Vancouver, ready for a great adventure! Because we went together with travel agency West Trek, we left with 3 full buses. Our first stop was in Hope. A nice small place to have some breakfast. The drive just before Hope and after Hope is beautiful, so everybody was relaxing in the bus and enjoying the view. The second stop was in Kamloops, at this moment we knew that we were really lucky with the weather. Everybody started to create a sunburn while having lunch in the sun.

Spahats Falls

Then there was time to see our first waterfall at our third stop at Spahats Falls. It is a really high waterfall with a great view. After that we were ready for the last 2 hours drive to our Hotel in Valemount. Valemount is a small place, but the hotel has a pool and even a waterslide. It was a lot of fun, I found the waterslide really scary. Although we were not in Vancouver, we still had a hockey night! We went to the pub to see the game. Unfortunately we lost but we still had a great time.

Mt. Robson

Day 2

To make the most out of it, we had to get up pretty early. Our first stop was Mt. Robson, this is the highest mountain from the Canadian Rockies. It is 3954 meters high. You don’t always see the peak of the mountain because of clouds but because we had such a great weather, we saw it! After Mt. Robson we went to Jasper and bought some food. Our third stop was at the Athabasca Falls. It was nice to see a lake with waterfalls and Mt. Robson still in the background. We had some lunch and enjoyed the weather.

Snocoach Glacier Experience

We had to leave because our first crazy activity was waiting for us. We were going on a glacier!! It was perfect! We had a great view, still nice weather and going there by snocoach was fun. So a perfect place to make a group picture! After that we had a small hike through snow to see Peyto Lake. It was funny to see people struggling to walk in really high snow but the hike was worth the view!

Peyto Lake

We also made a small photo stop at Bow Lake next to the highway. After this we were ready to meet all people from the travel agency we went with, West Trek. We arrived with 5 full buses in Banff. We had some free time and met in a pub later. After some chats, drinks and games we were ready to party. All of us went to a nightclub in Banff to party together. It was a perfect second day. I think the drive itself from Valemount to Banff was already amazing! We drove on the Icefield Highway. It is in the top 10 of best highways in the world, so a great experience with beautiful surroundings.

Thank you all who joined the trip, you made it a great experience! The review from day 3 and day 4 will be published soon.

Cheers,

Your PR-team
