Year Review – Part 3

And here the story continous – let’s take a closer look to July, August and September 2019!

As July came around it was time to put our hiking shoes back on and make our way around Lynn Canyon, one of our favorite places to visit here at INTERNeX. LynnCanyon1.jpgLocated in the district of North Vancouver we certainly let our watches behind as we missed the first bus (oops) but that just gave us more time to get to know each other 😉 when we finally arrived everyone was super excited to cross the famous Lynn Canyon Bridge, defiantly something to see while you are here in Vancouver. (https://internexcanada.wordpress.com/2019/07/08/how-was-your-weekend-106/)

Vargas2.jpgTrading in our hiking shoes for our camping tent, we enjoyed the most beautiful weekend camping on Vargas Island. I never knew how much Tetris can help you in life until we had to pack all of our stuff into only 3 cars while still having to fit our bodies in there. It was going to be a challenge to get back into the cars on the way back as we enjoyed many tasty foods on the island such as burgers and s’mores (s’mores are a must when you are camping). Enjoying each other’s company with an island fire and a beach party was something you won’t forget. Unfortunately, every weekend has to come to an end, but the memories will stay with us forever (https://internexcanada.wordpress.com/2019/07/16/how-was-your-weekend-107/).

VanDusen1.jpgWe always love getting our INTERNeX team together and what better way to do it than to enjoy a day at the Van Dusen Botanical Garden. The weather was on our side this day as the sun wash shining bright and the beautiful atmosphere of the botanic gardens filled our eyes with colour (https://internexcanada.wordpress.com/2019/07/22/how-was-your-weekend-108/).

INTERNeX has finally grown out of its teen years and we wish it a very happy 20TH ANNIVERSARY!!! A surprise party had been organized for Tim. We thank Tim for all of his hard work and everything that he has done for INTERNeX and everyone involved. We had organized many people from all over the world to come and experience this special moment with us and surprise Tim with some familiar faces. With both current and former INTERNeX people the night was then all about celebration (https://internexcanada.wordpress.com/2019/08/01/20th-anniversary/).Anniversary1.jpg

Rockies1.jpgMoose bus adventures always have our back when it comes to our Rocky Mountain Trips. On Friday we started our very long bus trip but our spirits were always lifted by our driver, Mike. Here at INTERNeX we always love a good challenge, why not jump in every lake we find (I think we underestimated how many pretty lakes there were in Vancouver haha…) Everyone enjoyed the scenes even if they didn’t swim in every lake though. After the long exhausting trip on the bus we still felt the need to share a drink or two or three that night – this lead to the very quiet bus ride the next morning 😉 (https://internexcanada.wordpress.com/2019/08/20/rocky-mountains-trip/).

DeepCove1.jpgSunny and warm days are for hiking and exploring. The INTERNeX team arrived at Deep Cove then hiked up to Quarry Rock to admire the view. Its always nice to reward ourselves with some delicious Honey Doughnuts and goodies. Although we still had a long bus ride ahead of us back to vancouver we had another amazing day with the INTERNeX team (https://internexcanada.wordpress.com/2019/08/26/how-was-your-weekend-109/).

BikeTour1.jpgBike tours are a great way to see more of Vancouver. We met at the Waterfront Station where we started the tour and we thank Vancouver for holding the thunderstorms till later (https://internexcanada.wordpress.com/2019/09/09/how-was-your-weekend-111/).

How was your weekend?

The week has started again and even though most of us are probably not very happy about the fact that today is Monday, we can look back on a nice weekend.

For me personally it was a rather relaxed start into the weekend. We had some good weather on Saturday but somehow, I wasn’t so enthusiastic to get out of bed. We all have those days, don’t we? At some point I got up and did some chores and went shopping. I finally wanted to cook something again that I sometimes ate at home in Germany. So, I left and got all the ingredients, at least that’s what I thought, until halfway back home I noticed that I had forgotten an important ingredient. So now I had most of the ingredients in my fridge and was not able to cook, but I hope to get there this week 🙂20190825_140339

My Sunday was a bit more productive in comparison. I left quite early to meet the INTERNeX crew at the Waterfront Station. When the group was complete, we made our way to Deep Cove. The bus ride really takes a while, but we were really lucky with the weather and were rewarded with a sunny and warm day. When we arrived in Deep Cove, we had to hike to Quarry Rock, of course who wants to miss the view? It didn’t take us long to get to the top and admire the view. After that we spent some time in this little sweet town and not to forget we also tried the donuts of Honey Doughnuts and Goodies, one of the most famous donut shops in Deep Cove. Everyone told me before that I had to try these donuts and they were really delicious!

We still had a long way to go back to Vancouver, but we all came back fresh and happy.

.

I hope you had a wonderful Weekend, a good start into the week and to see you at the PUB NiGHT on Wednesday at Moose’s Down Under!

Rocky Mountains Trip!

What a breathtaking weekend! The INTERNeX group set off on one of the best trips of the year on Friday. We went to the Rocky Mountains. Together with Moose bus adventures we created a Rockies trip individually planned for INTERNeX and it was just incredibly cool!

On Friday we hit the road. There was a long bus trip ahead, but everybody was super motivated and was ready for the trip.  Mike was our driver and guide and brought a bit of atmosphere into the group. After everything was stowed away in our bus, we were ready to go and set off!

20190816_110721

We spent our first night in Kelowna, but already on the way there we stopped at many exciting and beautiful places like the Bridal Veil Falls in Rosedale. Then we made our way to Kawkawa Lake, when we arrived there, we all jumped into the water and then we had a brilliant idea…why not make a challenge out of it. The challenge was to swim in every lake we visited! I took this challenge very seriously during the trip (I was the only one who really swam in every lake) because Mike (guide) and I came up with the idea, but the others also enjoyed the idea even if they didn’t swim in every lake.

Hope, a small city east of Vancouver, is known for his wooden figures and we happened to witness the famous competition where the candidates carved wooden figures with a chainsaw.

On the way to Kelowna we also visited the Othello tunnels, which also belong to one of the most famous sights and fo20190816_143420.jpgr reason. Unbelievable that these tunnels were created only with dynamite and manual work.

Arrived in Kelowna it was time to check into the hostel and everyone could hardly wait for dinner. Even though it was very windy at the beach in Kelowna we decided to eat pizza and enjoy the view of the water. For me it meant swimming in the water again! The challenge must go on!

Some of us, despite the fact that it was a long and exhausting trip, went for a drink in the evening, which led to the fact that the next morning it was nice and quiet in the bus 😛

Now it was time for us to head to Banff and on 20190817_180527the way there Mike showed us many breathtaking places. We stopped at Kalamalka lake and then we went to a lake that really took my breath away. Emerald Lake, a glacial lake that looks like it’s photo-shopped. Small glacial minerals make the water look turquoise. Due to the fact that the lake consists of glacial water it has a water temperature of only a few degrees Celsius. This didn’t stop Mike and me from jumping from the bridge into the ice-cold water. We were a little attraction, and no one could believe that there are actually two crazy people jumping into such cold water, some of the tourists even walked around in winter jackets. Nevertheless, we jumped, and I think my heart stopped beating for a moment, but I’ve never felt so good about anything. A unique experience that I will be talking about for a long time to come.

After we arrived in Banff, we spent a relaxed evening together.

On Sunday we had a pretty early start into the day, because we had a lot ahead of us. We started with a small hike to the waterfalls in Johnston Canyon. Arriving at the upper waterfalls Mike did a little meditation with us which made us appreciate what we have. After that we went to Lake Louise, where almost everybody took part in the lake challenge and to top it off, we all went to Lake Moraine and jumped into the water. We asked the staff of the canoe rental what the water temperature of the lake was, and it was 6°C, yes you read correctly, 6°C. It was very cold, but I am proud that all of us have made it. Both Emerald lake, Lake Louise and Lake moraine look as if someone had coloured the lake blue, I’ve never seen anything like it in my life, unbelievable! In the evening we went to the Banff Hot pools, which were a good change after the cold lakes.

The trip was nearing its end and yesterday we made our way back to Vancouver. A short stop at the Natural Bridge made the trip complete and we made it back to Vancouver safely.

The trip was simply breathtaking and unique!

Hope you have a great week and to see you at tomorrow’s PUB NiGHT at the Yale Saloon!

What to do on the weekend?

You still don’t know what to do on the weekend? Then let’s give you some ideas.

This weekend a lot of cool events are happening in and around Vancouver and there is something for everyone. For all those of you that want to be active and do some sport, I have the perfect event for you.

At Kitsilano Beach there is the KitsFest. It takes place all weekend long and ranges from playing basketball, volleyball, tennis to a lot of other activities, like sunset yoga. Sound’s pretty fantastic to me! The downside of it is, that for some activities you have to pay admission, but maybe it is still worth checking it out.

The Festival starts at 9AM and ends when the sun is going down .beach

I personally would love to go to the next event that I want to share with you, but it takes a little road trip to get there. It is the Abbotsford Airshow this weekend, which is one of the biggest airshows in Canada. I think looking at all the vintage planes and military aircrafts is super interesting, if you think the same make sure to go there!

I know some of you live here on a pretty tight budget and there are also some options for you. This weekend there are a lot of free music events happening in Vancouver, for example free live music in North Vancouver or Mission Twilight Concerts at Fraser River Heritage Park at 7PM. Having a relaxed evening listening to live music with your friends is always a great way to spend the weekend.

But now let’s come to a really great event hosted by INTERNeX. If you don’t have plans for your Sunday, make sure to join us for a game of Disc Golf at Elizabeth Park. It is a really cool group activity with a huge fun factor.

Is there a better way to spend the weekend than with friends? I don’t know. 62551251_2245194065792281_6647863583201820672_n

Whatever you decide to do make sure to enjoy your weekend! See you soon (hopefully on Sunday 😉)!
