How was your weekend?

Monday. Back to normal life. Half asleep going to work. Looking back at an amazing weekend. So many adventures done, so many memories made. If you want to know everything I did this weekend, keep reading and you will find out.

My weekend started Friday. After we finished our work at the office, we ate some tacos and went to the BC Place Stadium to watch the football game BC Lions vs. Montreal Alouettes. Everything I expected from a football game became true. There were big sacks of popcorn, cheerleaders, a mascot, lottery, commercials. Exactly as how we know it from the movies. It was really fun to see and experience a real North-American sport like this. Although we didn’t know the rules, it was real fun to watch the game.

The next morning my alarm went off way too early. We met at 8 am at the airport to pickup two cars and drove to Joffre Lake. After 4 hours driving (because of a cycling event on the road) we arrived at the Joffre Lake Provincial Park. After 5 minutes of hiking, we already saw our first lake. We made some pictures and went to the second lake. After an hour climbing over rocks, walking up stairs and a few picture moments we arrived at the second lake. This one was even more beautiful. After another 30 minutes of hiking over bridges and along a waterfall we arrived at the last lake. Amazing to see how beautiful Canada can be. We did our last photoshoot and hiked all the way back back to the car. After 3 hours driving back to Vancouver, I ate something and made myself ready to go out in the Bourbon. After a couple dances and drinks we went to the Cambie Bar were we ended this long day.

Good morning Vancouver, Sunday arrived. Time to go to the Vancouver Street Food Festival. After yesterday, I walked around like a zombie to search for some coffee to get awake. None of the food trucks were selling coffee. When I finally found some coffee, the Street Food Festival could begin. We ate a lot of nice food and listened to the cover band that was playing some nice music. After a while we got ourselves an airbrush tattoo and the festival was already near its end. I decided to go home and have a good night sleep. I hope your weekend was as fun as my weekend and I hope to see you all at PuB NiGHT on Wednesday.

Smart Saver Vancouver

It’s Wednesday, which is the day for Smartsaver! Vancouver is pretty expensive most of the times, but you can save money!

7699686936_3ca42fbb6a_oComing months will be full of sports. FC Whitecaps already started their season and the BC Lions will start soon! If you want to save money on the tickets of the games then there are two options. First of all, Discover Canada Tours and Westtrek offer discounted tickets for almost all games. Secondly, if you go to the Tourism Vancouver Visitors’ Centre on the day of the game you can also save money! They offer “ Tickets Tonight”, which are half-priced tickets on sports games that evening.

Now that the weather is getting better it is time to do some travelling! Boltbus is a bus company which can take you to lots of places in Canada. The bus company offers $1 tickets, but these tickets are really hard to get though. They offer at least one $1 ticket for every trip that they offer. However, the tickets are sold randomly and mostly within the first seats sold. So if you want to get a $1 ticket you have to be on top of their schedule to even have a chance.

Also as the weather is getting better go do free activities in the city! Hiking in one of the parks, going to the beaches or walk through the neighbourhoods of Vancouver can be lots of fun and is free!

Hope to see all of you guys tonight at PuB NiGHT!

What to do on the weekend

The weekend is finally here again and it’s time get out of the office to enjoy all of the cool events, activities and much more that Vancouver has to offer. Have a look at these suggestions.

Friday

If you’re up for some alternative music you should definitely check out the Accordion Noir Festival. This festival celebrates a wonderful instrument: the accordion. This means that for every concert there’ll always be an accordion. Even if you’re not so much in to this instrument it’s worth checking out a least one concert. Who knows, all of you stereotypical views of the accordion might completely change after a great concert. Click here for more information on the Accordion Noir festival.

Saturday

If you really want to get around downtown Vancouver you can choose to hike Vancouver Seawall. Vancouver Seawall is a road specifically designed for cyclists and pedestrians, and it stretches all the way around downtown Vancouver, Stanley Park and even reaches Kitsilano beach park. You can go for a run, take your bike or just walk around this beautiful stretch, where you can also enjoy Vancouver Harbour and English Bay. There’s a lot of attractions and great places to go all the way around the Seawall, so you can always take a little break from your hike and do something completely different. You can get more information about Vancouver Seawall here.

Sunday

After a good run at the Vancouver Seawall, maybe you want to relax a bit but still enjoy looking at sports. No need to worry… Vancouver has all the sports venues, matches and events you need to get entertained. The hockey season hasn’t started yet but for sure you’ll still have the opportunity to get entertained watching Vancouver’s football team (BC Lions), baseball team (Vancouver Canadians) or soccer (Vancouver Whitecaps). Click here for more information.

Have a joyful weekend!

How was your weekend?

Go Lions, Go! That was the motto of Friday night! Even though the weather was not much to enjoy (it was raining cats and dogs) – our Friday night at the BC Place was great. I hope you had a good Friday, and a good weekend, as well but let me sum ours up for everybody who had to miss out on it.

So on Friday, a bunch of about 20 INTERNeX clients who were interested in sports or wanted to experience another part of North American culture, went with us to the B.C. Lions football game. Even though it was raining, we didn’t care, the stadium was covered and we didn’t need to worry about a thing. Besides maybe about this: What are the rules, what team is ours, and how did they score now? Take a look at our Facebook pictures to get an impression…

However, the ground rules are: There are two teams with each an offense and a defense. They try to carry a ball to the other side of the field and score a touchdown. Those get the most points. The defense of the other team can try to stop them with loads of physical effort.  There are a lot more technicalities to it and you can look that up here, if you are interested. After having a general idea (some of us understood a bit more, others enjoyed kind of just enjoyed the atmosphere…), we can say that the Lions were absolutely successful this Friday! They won against their opponents, the Calgary Stampeders, 26 – 7. And since we were there with such a large group, we even were mentioned on the huge screen of the stadium and got a nice group welcome.

So guys, how was your weekend? Share some of your pictures online or comment below.

Talk to you soon,

Annika

INTERNeX Canada: Canadian Football !

The hockey seasons is over, but don´t worry because the football season has just started. By football, I mean Canadian football ( Europeans: Keep in mind that here they call soccer to our “football” in Europe).

Canadian football is a little bit different than american football. The Canadian team has 12 players rather than 11, is played on a field roughly 10 yards wider and ten yards longer between the end, and utilizes three downs per possession rather than four.

The top league is the professional eight-team  Canadian Football League (CFL). The CFL regular season begins in June, and playoffs for the Grey Cup are completed by mid-November.

In British Columbia, our professional team is BC Lions. They play their games in the BC Place, in downtown.

BC Lions Facts:

  • The name: The team was names for The Lions, a pair of mountain peaks overlooking Vancouver.
  • Uniform colors: Orange, Black and White.
  • Mascot: Leo the Lion.
  • Stadium: BC Place Stadium
  • Western regular season championships: 13—1963, 1964, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1987, 1999, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2011, 2012.
  • Western Division Championships: 10—1963, 1964, 1983, 1985, 1988, 1994, 2000, 2004, 2006, 2011.
  • Grey Cup championships: 6—1964, 1985, 1994, 2000, 2006, 2011.
  • Main Rivals: Montreal Alouettes (Labour Day Classic), Saskatchewan Roughriders
  • Fight song: “Roar, You Lions, Roar”

I highly recommend to go to watch a match, ’cause the entrances´price are really cheap!

Best,

Mercedes
