What to do on the weekend?

The weekend is ahead of us and in case you don’t have any plans yet, here are some suggestions, as to what you can do.

Unfortunately, the weather forecast for tomorrow isn’t looking too good. Since you might not want to be outside, how about you go to the movie theater. The current movies being played, will take you back to your childhood. For example, Pokemon Detective Pikachu, where Vancouver native Ryan Reynolds lends his voice to Pikachu. Or the Disney classic Aladdin, where you will see Will Smith as the genie. If you have not seen it yet, you could check out the record breaking, star packed movie Avengers: Endgame.

On Sunday the weather is suppose to get better. Giving you the opportunity for example to go on a hike at Lighthouse Park or at any other of the many hiking trails in and around Vancouver. Another lovely way to enjoy sunny weather in Vancouver, is by relaxing on one of Vancouver’s beaches.

If you want a bit more action, there will be the Color Fest 2019 on Sunday. The fest will celebrate the South Asian spring festival Holi. The event will include music, dance and a community color “war”. It will be held in the Town Center Park Coquitlam from 1pm to 4pm. The admission is $10 and you can get the tickets online.

In case you want some cultural experience, you could visit the European Festival on Sunday. The festival will be held at the Vancouver Alpen Club at 2875 Victoria Drive. 15 different socities are participating in this festival to share their cultures. There will be concerts and performances, a marketplace, and food. Admission will be $5.

Our event this week is the hike at Joffre Lakes on Sunday. On the way there we will make a quick stop at Shannon Falls and our way back we will stop in beautiful Whistler for dinner. Thanks to everyone, who decided to join us and see you on Sunday!

Enjoy your weekend!

How was your weekend?

It’s Monday, so sadly the weekend is over. I hope you are all doing well and enjoyed the extra day off. Here is a little recap of what happened over the weekend.

SP_IMG

Despite the weather forecast, it was great weather on Saturday and Sunday. So on Saturday, a few of us met up to ride bikes in Stanley Park. Once we got our cruisers, we were on our way. We followed the bike path around the park by the seawall. Thus, we had spectacular views the whole time. Further, we were able to see the water planes take off, which was quite impressive. We stopped a few times to take some nice pictures. One of our first stops was the Brockton Point Lighthouse.

After a while we split up as some wanted to make more stops and also hung around at some spots and enjoyed the view. Some of us continued with the bike ride. We saw Lions Gate Bridge, which leads to North and West Vancouver. We also saw the Girl in a Wetsuit, which is a statue on a rock out in the water. Afterwards, we passed the amazing beaches the park has to offer. At Third Beach we had a break to have some ice cream. Towards the end of our bike ride, we passed by the Lost Lagoon, and there were a lot of cute baby geese. Overall, it was a fun and cool way to explore the park. Thanks to everyone who came and joined us!

I actually enjoyed Stanley Park so much, that I went there the next day again. But this time I walked, which was a bit more relaxing. On Sunday, I also explored the center of Stanley Park. It was really neat and remarkable to see, how much nature there is, considering that we are in a big city.

Stanley Park is beautiful and has so much to offer. I highly recommend visiting the park, if you have not done so yet. Especially, if you want to get away form the stress of the city,  it’s the prefect place to relax.

Have a good day!

What to do on the weekend?

It’s Friday, which means the week is almost over and there is only the weekend left. In case you still do not know what to do, here are some ideas to consider.

beach

First off, good news, it’s going to be sunny all weekend. So you should take advantage of the weather, and spend some time outside. You can go to one of the many beaches in Vancouver, for example Kitsilano beach. While you spend some time by the water, you can read, hang out with friends or even have a picnic.

lighthouse

On Sunday, you should join us at the Lighthouse Park for a hike. The park is located in West Vancouver by the shore, so we will be able to enjoy some beautiful views. It is a fairly easy hike, so it is suitable for everyone. Don’t forget to bring snacks and something to drink. More infos on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/240975033416074/

If you still need plans for tonight, and are in the mood for some action, you can go to the lacrosse game between the Vancouver Warriors and the Toronto Rock at the Rogers arena. The game starts at 7 pm. Ticket prices start at $20, and you can purchase them online or at the arena. More infos at: https://vancouverwarriors.com/schedule/game?id=3401425

Have a great weekend and hopefully I’ll see you on Sunday at the hike.

Candidate Exposé – Klara Krieg

Klara KriegMy name is Klara, 21 years old and I am from Germany. Currently I am studying Business-Engineering. I decided to go to Canada for the international experience and because I have a fascination for the country.

I found Internex through my university, since they have a collaboration. I am doing an internship here at the moment and I really like it! For my internship you need to be able to work independently and be open-minded as a person.

My first impression I got when I came here is that the airport looked nice but small and that Canada is absolutely beautiful. I still feel that way now. The PR-team organises events and activities and I think they are really good. I love the events and the girls do a very good job organizing everything! So I kind of attended nearly every event in the last 3 months.

What I like most is that Canada is just a beautiful, fascinating country with a lot of different attractions. The nature is stunning, especially Vancouver with the beaches, mountains and city centre!

A difficulty I had to face here is that I am living in Surrey, which is too far away from downtown Vancouver… but that is kinds of the only negative part about my entire stay here. The most memorable things for me are the hikes I did and the great people I’ve met.

Internex was helpful for me to give me a good orientation, good support and the events helped a lot to meet new people and to have a great time in Vancouver. I would definitely recommend it!

This experience definitely inspired me to travel more, but I don’t know where I will travel at the moment. When I get back in Germany the first thing I will do is eating bread and CHEESE! And meeting my boyfriend and family again!

Candidate Exposé – Kerstin Berger

kerstinbergerI am Kerstin Berger, 23 years old and I am from Germany. I just graduated from university and I always wanted to come here once, so now was actually the perfect timing.

I found Internex through a German agency, which offers internships all over the world. Internex and mostly the girls from the PR-team are doing an awesome job! I am participating in the practicum program because I didn’t’ t want to do the work and travel program. I think the general program of Internex is really good since you get to meet so many people and doing all the trips together makes the time here just awesome.

I am placed at a recruiting company in Vancouver and I think it is pretty okay so far. I think it is more HR though, while I actually wanted to do something in accounting. I had an interesting project here that turned out to be a big project for the company. It made me feel pretty good that I was the one who ran it. I think you need to have a bit of a HR background though for this Practicum. So this is not a part of my university programs since I already graduated, but the experience will be useful for my career goals.

In Vancouver I live in a shared apartment where I have a private room. I found it on Craigslist, which is a platform to buy and sell or offer almost everything. For example you can find houses there, second hand ski materials and even pets.

My first impression of Vancouver was RAINcouver haha, I am glad that the rain is gone by now. I realize now how beautiful the city and the whole country is. During my stay I attended most activities and trips organised by the PR-team, but sometimes I was occupied with my other job at a bar. When I attended, it was always a lot of fun with cool people! I attended many pub nights, I went to the Richmond Night Market, cycling in Stanley Park and I went to the Rockies with them. The PR-team did a really good job, so thank you girls!

What I like most about Vancouver is that you have mountains and beaches in one city, so mostly the nature. The most memorable things I did here was the Big Rockies trip and road trips with friends. This experience inspired me to travel more and I think South America would be very interesting to go to.

Internex was helpful for me to get friends here, which I think is one of the most important things to have when you are abroad for a couple of months. I would totally recommend Internex to others.

The first thing I will do when I get back home is giving my family a big hug.
