What to do on the weekend

The weekend is here and the weather is promising to be great again! So here are some ideas to make this an awesome weekend.

Our weekly event already happened last night at the free evening of the Vancouver Folk Music Festival. If you missed it or want to go again, the festival will be the entire weekend. The festival is one of the biggest music festivals here and definitely worth checking out. It is located at Jericho Park and you can get tickets online or at the festival site.

Another option is the Greek Summerfest. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday you can enjoy Greek food, culture and music at St. Nicholas and Dimitrios Greek Orthodox Church.

If you were still planning on going to White Rock, a good option is to go on Saturday night when the TD Concerts at the Pier is happening. This free concert features R&B All Stars. Or go to the Red Truck Concert Series. Red Truck is a beer company and they organize a few concerts this summer. It starts at 4 PM on Saturday and it will cost you $35.

If you’re more into theatre you could check out Theatre Under The Stars in Stanley Park. This Sunday they are performing The Drowsy Chaperone. Just remember to buy your tickets beforehand.

Or just take the weekend to enjoy the weather on one of the many beaches or try out a hike!

I hope you have an amazing weekend we’ll see you on the next PuB NiGHT!

What to do on the weekend

Another great weekend is coming up! This time you can look forward to a nice long and extended weekend because of the public holiday, Labor Day, on Monday, September 1st. For this reason we have some extra suggestions for activities. The extended weekend at this time of year is by many seen as their last chance to really get out and enjoy the summer. You never know when it’ll start raining.

Friday

This Friday you should of course join INTERNeX for our Pub & Club Night. It will be Alexandra’s goodbye party, so we’re looking forward to see a lot of you. We’ll start at Library Square Public House at 7pm. More information on the Pub & Club Night can be found here.

Saturday

On Saturday you might have a bit of a head ache after our great party Friday. We therefore suggest that you calmly head towards Vancouver Maritime Museum to explore the history of the swimsuit. The museum is situated in beautiful Vanier Park. Here you won’t have to do a lot of thinking. Just walk around and enjoy yourself, while discovering the development in fashionable swimsuits. More info on this exhibit, the location and opening hours can be found here

After looking at the development within the swimsuit fashion, you could go to one of the many great beaches that Vancouver has to offer (English Bay Beach, Jericho Beach, Kitsilano beach… and the list goes on). Here you can (of course still without making too great an effort) do a bit of research on fashionable swimsuits in Vancouver. Click here for more information on the various beaches that Vancouver has to offer.

Sunday

On Sunday you should have overcome your hangover, so why not do something with little more activity. Enjoy the hopefully still nice and sunny weather and visit Klahowya Village in Stanley Park. Here you can experience the aboriginal culture of British Columbia. You can also have a look at different cultural performances or pay a visit to the aboriginal market. Click here for more information on this event.

Monday

Finally you can end of the long weekend with a thrilling and exciting experience. You should of course go to Hastings Racecourse and watch a horse race! If you’re 19 of age or above you’ll also have the opportunity to place bets on the different races. And there are also indoor viewing options in case it starts raining. Click here for more information on location and racing schedule

Enjoy the long weekend!

INTERNeX Canada: Fun Facts

Today, fun facts about the best beaches in Vancouver!

In Vancouver, we have very few sunny days. So, when the weather is nice, it is almost compulsory to hang out outside. Going to the beach is probably the best option in summer. So, here you have a round-up of the funniest things to do on Vancouver’s different beaches!

English Bay: All the info you need in our INTERNeX Explorer video.

The perfect thing to take: a huge iced coffe.

Where: MAP

Second Beach: All the info you need in our INTERNeX Explorer video.

The perfect item: a funny float(from Dollarama) for the Second Beach Pool.

Where: MAP

Kitsilano Beach: The most glamorous of Vancouver’s beaches. It’s like Venice Beach in LA, everybody go there to watch and be watched. It’s very good for swimming (the water is very tranquil) and you can also go to the Kits Pool.

The perfect item: A cool swimsuit.

Where: MAP

Spanish Banks: Pretty far away from the city, this is the perfect beach if you are looking for tranquility and silence. It is perfect for barbecues and long walks, too.

The perfect item: Your other half…It’s a romantic spot.

Where: MAP

Jericho Beach:  Located on the north of Jericho Park, this beautiful beach is ideal for play tennis (there is a tennis court), for riding your bike and for walks at sunset. here are also picnic tables and playing fields. The Vancouver Folk Music Festival is held here.

The perfect item: The perfect thing to take: An Aztec-print T-shirt and a big beard, for the Folk Music Festival.

Where: MAP

Wreck Beach: Located in UBC, clothing is optional here. For many people, it is one of the best nudist beaches in the world..  It is full of students and has a strong hippy vibe. Just behind the beach is the rainforest, which is very beautiful to see. I strongly recommend going to this beach at sunset; everybody celebrates the sunset by shouting, dancing and doing strange Yoga-type dances.

The perfect thing to take: An open mind. There are a lot of naked people… Not for the faint-hearted!

Where: MAP

Please be careful when you are out in the sun!

Clara.

INTERNeX Canada: Expose of the Week ft Danielle

Danielle, who was one of our internship candidates, wrote to us to tell us about her experiences here in Vancouver and with INTERNeX..

“In March I started a 20 weeks lasting internship at a chocolate company in Vancouver. During my stay, I was working in the Purchasing department in their Head Office and besides assisting this department in general tasks, I got several projects to work on. My first project pursued the goal to find improvements for the unitization of the packaging material which is held in their warehouse that is located in the same building as the Head Office. I had to take the requests of different people and other determining factors into account like the warehouse employees, suppliers and storage capacities. In another project I was establishing a database of packaging material and another was about collecting information from suppliers concerning the traceability of the ingredients used in production and food-contact items.

In general, I learned a lot during my internship and enjoyed my time there. I had to deal with different people internal as well as with suppliers, could spend time in the warehouse and in the normal office environment.

I am really grateful that I could spend this internship in the city of Vancouver. For me, the city is wonderful with so many friendly people and diverse cultures living here together. But most of all, I loved the nature which surrounds Vancouver and wished the summer had started earlier to be able to enjoy the beautiful hikes, parks and beaches even more.

Besides, I would like to give positive feedback for INTERNeX. I had the experience that it is quite difficult to find a fitting internship abroad which is related to my studies in Germany. INTERNeX was able to find one for me and I am sure to take advantage of this back home. But it is also good to always have a contact person in case of any problems occur. Also, the PR interns do a great job organizing so many events for all candidates and it is easy to get to know people who are in the same situation.”

Thank you Danielle and I hope you have a safe trip back to Germany and INTERNeX wishes you the best of luck with your future endeavors!

Cheers,

Lies
