What to do on the weekend?

Another weekend is coming up, so it is time to list all the fun things you can do while your are in Vancouver.

Telus World Ski & Snowboard Festival

April means almost the end of the ski-season in Whistler and which better way to celebrate this that throwing a festival. This festival is a free festival and takes up to 10days with performance such as, music, arts, sports and mountain life. The festival is suitable for all ages and the slopes are going to be crazy. VCBF: Sakura Illumination

Artist Stuart Ward will illuminate the blossom of cherry this friday with LED and patterned video. The event will start at 7:45pm till 9.30pm at the Sunset Beach on Beach eve at Thurlow street. There is no entrance fee, so it is for free!

Pineapple Challenge

For the run-lovers a 5km obstacle course is planned on Saturday. Create a team, dress up crazy and sign up. Before the race you will get a pineapple and you have to run the obstacle course with your team without letting it fall. So be careful. All the reaised money will go to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada. Click here for more information.

Vaisakhi Day Parade

Every April, millions of Sikhs celebrate Vaisakhi Day. This day celebrates the New Year and the anniversary of the first Amrit Ceremony. There are two parades in Vancouver. The Vancouver Vaisakhi Parada on April 12 with around 50,000 spectators showing up. The parade starts at 11am at the Ross Street Temple on 8000 Ross st at 64th. or the Surrey Vaisakhi Parade and Celebration on April 19 which attracts around 80,000 – 200,000 people. Making this Parade the biggest outside India. If you are interested in cultures, this is definitely something you should not miss.

Water Loving Otters and Beavers

Interested in how Otters and Beavers life in Stanley Park? Than head out to Stanley Park (Stanley Park Nature House at Lost Lagoon) on Sunday at 6:00pm for evening stroll from the shores of Lost Lagoon to Baever Lake and discover and learn more about the habitats of the animals. The cost are $10, but is sure is a great experience. Click here for more information.

INTERNeX Canada: News / Fun Facts

In 2 weeks INTERNeX Goes Rockies 2012!! For those who have already signed up; you’re in for one of the most unforgettable Easter weekends you will ever have and for those who haven’t signed up yet please make sure you don’t miss out!!

This week I will tell you more about the three places where we will be staying during our Rockies tour; Valemont, Banff and Golden.

VALEMOUNT

On Friday 6th we will arrive in Valemont. Valemont is in BC and is situated in a valley between the Rocky Mountains, Monashee Mountains and Cariboo Mountains.

Valemount is home to the highest peak of the Rockies; Mount Robson at 3,954m. A lot of wildlife can be seen in the mountainous  areas of Valemount such as; elk, moose, mountain goats, grizzly bears, black bears, mule, caribou, beaver, muskrat and much more.

BANFF

On our second day we will be going to the highest town (at 1, 383 m) in the whole of Canada; Banff. This beautiful national park of Alberta is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a United Nations designation which helps protect a very large part of the Canadian Rocky Mountains.

 

There are quite a few activities you can do in Banff, such as: skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, hiking, gondola rides, dog sledding and much much more!

GOLDEN

Our last night will be spent in Golden, BC. This beautiful part of Canada is surrounded by the Glacier National Park and Yoho National Park and is known as ‘Kicking Horse Country’.

Golden has quite a few impressing attractions that you need to see while we are there. It is home to the longest covered pedestrian bridge in all of Canada. You can even take a gondola ride to see the unbelievable views of the valley and mountain vistas.
