What to do on the weekend?

“Temperatures reach up to 33 degrees Celsius in Metro Vancouver this weekend” Summer has arrived in Vancouver and Mother Nature doesn’t shy away from it. It might be boiling all day, but hey, at least it’s not raining or snowing. So, let’s embrace the weather and enjoy it while it lasts.

36299350672_cba25ec2e5_n1As you know (and if you don’t, you’re welcome) the Honda Celebration of Light is happening this weekend! This is a three-day competition with its focus on… lights. Every year, three countries display fireworks based on a specific theme. This year’s theme is ‘Love’. Whilst showing the public the fireworks they created, judges from the Metro Vancouver area will be there to rate every performance. Moreover, the audience can vote by downloading the Honda Celebration of Light mobile app. The festival kicks off with South Africa’s performance this Saturday, July 28th. The fireworks start at 10pm and can be admired from English Bay.

21391064296_f302cde675_nSince the fireworks don’t start until 10pm, you might want to do something else before that. I have a great idea for you! Columbia StrEAT Food Fest, the largest one-day food truck fest in Canada, is taking place this Saturday. This event includes hundreds of food trucks, eight beer gardens (yes, eight!) and live music. Sounds fantastic, right? Well, what makes it even more fantastic is that the admission is completely free! You just have to pay for the amazing food and beverages. You can visit this event from 4 until 10pm on Columbia Street in New Westminster.

Sunday, funday! Since the temperatures are rising this weekend, why not spend your Sunday enjoying the sun in the park? One of Port Moody’s Summer Sundays takes place this Sunday. They will provide live music, so if you bring a blanket, some games and snacks, you can have a nice, fun day in the park. The live music starts at 2pm.

Have a great weekend! See you tonight at our Pizza and Sunset event or tomorrow at the Celebration of Light!

Experience IT Review – Vancouver Folk Music Festival

Last night we went to Vancouver Folk Music Festival. It was great to share this experience with all of you! Thank you for coming!

Vancouver Folk Music Festival is a yearly festival held at Jericho park. This year the festival was organized for the 40th year. To celebrate this they added an extra day to the festival, which was free entrance.

We started off at our meeting point and walked from there to the festival. Once we got to the festival, some of us were surprised about the way the festivals are organized in Canada. There were special areas for sitting, dancing and walking. Besides that there were also a lot of people who were taking chairs to the festival. We immediately went to the Beer garden where we got a free wine taster, foot scrub and a key chain. When a few of us went to the bar to get drinks, they even gave away sunglasses. After that we just chilled out in the beer garden while talking and listening to the music. It became really busy in the beer garden and after a while and there was even a line up for the bar till the entrance. When it got darker, there were people walking around with lanterns, which made the atmosphere really nice. At the end there was also an artist that started to sing the song “Hallelujah” and a lot of us sang along.

We hope you all had a great time at the Vancouver Folk Music Festival. See you at next week’s PuB NiGHT!

Experience IT Review – Khatsalano fest

On Saturday we went to Khatsalano Streetfest, a 10 block street festival with lots of stuff to do! It was great to experience it with you. Thank you for coming!

First we were amazed by how big it was, since it was held on 4th avenue and they closed 10 blocks of the street off for this festivity. There was enough to look at: bands, food trucks, beer gardens and other vendors. We decided to start at MacDonald, and just walk all the way to Burrard to see what is going on.

We saw people doing all these different games to win amazing prizes so Iris and I, like real Dutchies, decided to get involved in this as well. First we spinned a wheel and got a free keychain. As second we were in the running for free waxing, but unfortunately we didn’t throw the ball in the golden bucket. After that we stood in line to throw Blundstones in a bucket 20 meters further, to win a pair of Blundstones. I came quite close, but didn’t make it.

After these exciting games we strutted a bit more down the streets and felt like we also deserved some food in our tummies. So we ate one of the best ice creams I had so far in Vancouver, with a fresh waffle cone. Of course I couldn’t handle it very well, so after the ice cream I continued with some chocolate stains on my shirt.

Luckily we found the beer gardens quite fast, so we could enjoy some nice refreshers in the sun. Although some people left at that point, I went on till the end of the festivity and made use of the variety of food trucks around dinnertime.

I had a great time with the people who joined  and I hope to see you all at PuB NiGHT or at the Vancouver Folk Music Festival!

CelticFest – Experience IT Review

On Saturday we went to CelticFest at Robson square. It was great to see you even though a lot of you celebrated St. Patrick’s Day the night before. Thank you for coming!

During CelticFest we were celebrating the Irish national holiday St. Patrick’s Day. On this day, the Irish commemorate the holy Sint-Patricius. However, a lot of Irish people just see it as a day to celebrate being Irish and as a reason to drink. One of the activities organised during the week of St. Patrick’s Day is CelticFest. CelticFest is an annual festival being held throughout the city of Vancouver. There were several activities organised throughout the week. Some of these activities were free of charge, such as the parade and the CelticFest activities at Robson square.

We were really lucky with the weather. Saturday was a sunny day and therefore it was really nice to hang out at the CelticFest. At first we walked around and passed some small stands with green and Irish clothing. After that we watched a band playing some typical Irish music. Besides that we also watched an Irish dan17431010_10202849062023362_2021569902_oce performance at the Beer garden and at the Robson square. As the weather was so nice, we decided to go to Canada Place to watch the view. Then we went to Tap&Barrel and enjoyed some drinks, nachos and hummus. We also could not resist the free nacho refills. When we finally filled our stomachs, we finished our day with watching the seaplanes take off.

I hope you enjoyed the great weather this weekend! See you on PuB NiGHT!

Smart Saver

It’s smart saver Sunday again. So time to safe some money.

The last North Vancouver Night Market this year is the best opportunity to safe some money. The Market takes place form 5 to 10 pm on Friday nights from May 2 to September 26.  So unfortunately next Friday is the last chance for a visit. The Market offers 15 food tracks, 100 vendors and a beer garden.  On the Shipbuilders Stage you can listen to live music until 10 pm and the admission to get in is totally free. Over 80 tents are filled with local products, showcasing BC’s artisans, bakers and farmers. The location of the market makes this the perfect destination to relax at the Pier, catch nice views over the city, eat and be entertained.
The North Vancouver Night Market is placed just east of the Lonsdale Quay Seabus terminal.

If you’re really really hungry, it’s time to go to the RIO. It’s a Brazilian Steak House and you can get there a real Brazilian BBQ with all you can eat for only $15. They offers a great variety of different kinds of meat, such as Beef, Lamb, Chicken, Pork and Fish. You can eat as much as you can. You can get the side dishes from a great buffet with salad, french fries and different other Brazilian delicacies, which you’re welcome to serve yourself as much as you please.
Rio is located Denman Street.

Hope all of you had a great weekend, enjoy the rest of your Sunday and safe some money.
