What to do on the weekend?

It’s Friyay! I bet it is the favourite day of the week for most of us. If you have your whole weekend fully booked already that’s good news for you. If not, come to do something with the INTERNeX gang ☺IMG_20190321_194026.jpg

The weather seems so be nice for the weekend (not sure if it’s trustworthy) so if you have time you might want to go outside and just enjoy the sun. The sunsets here in Vancouver are also amazing and that’s really something worth seeing. Grab a book or go with a friend, take a blanket and some snacks and head to the beach. Here is a picture from English Bay Beach from few weeks back when I went there to enjoy the sunset.44322569234_3272b89b0d_o.jpg

Would you like to include something more fast and furious in your weekend? This Sunday the INTERNeX gang is heading to Planet Lazer to play some Laser Tag. You might want to wear something flexible and comfy since the game can get serious sometimes 😀 Other than that you only need to bring yourself. We will meet at Braid station at 5.30pm. Make sure you are on time but if you can only join later let me know. Hope to see as many of you on Sunday as possible. We will have a great evening for sure!

INTERNeX Canada: Casual Friday

Today it’s all about books and why MacLeod’s Books is the best place ever! If you were frustrated about too much rain and desperately tried to figure out how to spend your time, then you should check out this store.

It is no ordinary book store, mind you. It is a paradise for everybody who likes reading. Not just reading; this place brings to mind nice afternoons in a cozy room, with a storm outside. You, being captivated in an imaginary place fighting dragons, falling in love with a knight or being the world’s most famous detective solving dozens of murders.

MacLeod’s Books is all that and more. I actually could move in there. Once you enter the store you can smell the books. For everybody who is not that much into books: Older and used books have a certain smell to them. And actually this smell itself already tells you a story. In the store you can see piles and piles of books. Books in shelves which are as high as the ceiling and books piled up in little corners, filling every little room available in this store. While wandering wide eyed through the room, I noticed that even though it looks quite chaotic at first, it actually is pretty well sorted. They basically have a section for everything, marked with little pieces of tape on the shelves. It goes from books about music, philosophy, language and science over books on warfare, criminal novels and love stories. Like I said before: MacLeod’s is a paradise for myself and everyone who loves to disappear into another world if the actual world is too busy or stressful or – if it is raining. And honestly, even if you do not enjoy reading as much – this store is still something to see.

Dress up at Beach!

I don’t know about you guys but I had a great weekend! I spent all weekend relaxing on the beach, laying in the sun and having a good time.

Saturday Mette and I went to English Bay at 2 p.m. to soak up some sun and watch the fireworks in the evening. Because we were there so early, we found a perfect spot to watch the fireworks. During the day we went swimming, read a book and worked on our tans. As the day progressed it became busier and busier. More people came to enjoy the fireworks and by the time they started, there was no space available to sit anywhere on the beach! You had to be very creative if you wanted to get to your towel.

It was worth the wait and the hectic crowds! Spain really knows how to put on a good show. The fireworks were amazing. Did you miss out on Saturday’s fireworks? You still have the chance to see them Wednesday and Saturday.

On Sunday, we had another beach party at Kitsilano beach, where we met up with several INTERNeX candidates. After laying in the sun for awhile, we got a game of beach volleyball going. It was a lot of fun but the teams really had to work on their communication skills! Everyone thought the other team member would get the ball!

After the volleyball game, it was time to play an INTERNeX game. The winners of this game could win tickets to the Vancouver International Film centre. The group was divided in to two groups of 5 and each member of the group had to complete a series of tasks. The first task was to blow up and wear water wings, diving goggles, a hat and a water ring around their waist. After that, the person wearing the gear had to run towards a pole in the sand. They had to run 5 circles around this pole and then try to throw a ring into a circle we made in the sand. If completed successfully they had to use a bucket and some shovels to make a sandcastle. They then had to run back to the start and give the gear to the next person, who had to do the same obstacle course. The winning team had to have finished first and made the best sandcastle!

It was  hilarious to see everyone get dressed up and run around trying to win the game. But in the end only one team could win! So congratulations to the winning team! You guys did an amazing job!! To see more pictures of this awesome game, click here

But that was not the only game we played that day. There was also a quick trivia game. The game was won by Ralf, who can now enjoy some chocolate with his gift certificate at Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. The rest of the day we spent laying in the sun and working on our tans.

It was an amazing day, made perfect by all the people that came out! So thanks everyone for making the day extra special and hope to see you at PuBNiGHT on Wednesday!

Canada Day

I hope everyone had a great Canada day! On Thursday, myself and some friends went to a Canada Day party (hosted by West Trek and Moose Travel Network) near Jericho beach. There was a barbecue, drinks, music and lots of games!

If you’re not already aware, Moose Travel Network is Canada’s adventure bus system for backpackers, students and “young at heart” travellers. The company was established in 1997 by two Canadian entrepreneurs who wanted to show visitors the real Canada. Inspired by the successful examples set by companies in Australia and New Zealand, they started offering trips from Vancouver and Toronto.

Since then, Moose has carried thousands of satisfied passengers many tens of thousands of kilometers throughout this beautiful country. Moose has built an excellent international reputation for quality service and memorable experiences. If you’re interested in a hop-on, hop-off adventure, we can help you book your trip! Drop by the INTERNeX office and our representatives will inform you of all of their trips and tours happening across Canada! For more information on the Moose Travel Network, visit their website.

Looking for a day trip or a weekend adventure? Well West Trek has taken tens of thousands of ESL students and international travelers on tours to some of Western Canada’s most amazing scenery and attractions.

What began as a one man show back in 1998 has now blossomed into one of Western Canada’s largest tour operations.  West Trek got it’s start running small group camping and canoeing tours.  They offer tours to the Rocky Mountains, Victoria, Whistler, Tofino, Seattle and Portland! INTERNeX can help you book white water rafting trips, wine tasting tours and whale watching tours as well! For more information on West Trek and their services, visit their website.

INTERNeX also offers a variety of events and activities, such as Paintballing and Pub Night! Take a look at our event calendar to see what’s up this month with INTERNeX!

My birthday dinner

Hi everyone,

Yesterday was my birthday and I decided to celebrate by going out for dinner. Laura and me met up with a couple of people that i met here in Vancouver. We met them through other INTERNeX events and we have been hanging out ever since.

I really wanted a find nice restaurant that had something to eat for everyone. So I looked, and looked, and looked some more but it was worth it because the restaurant we went to was amazing.  When we were walking to the restaurant my first impression was not a good one. The restaurant’s name, which was Kingston Taphouse & Grill, was spelled out in neon lettering. But I learnt that you shouldn’t judge a book, or restaurant for that matter, on it’s cover. As soon as we walked in the restaurant, I loved it. It was very quiet, has a lot of atmosphere and is so charming.

The waitress later told us that it is usually busy during hockey season and that is it slow when there are not playing. We were with 7 people and when it is busy in a restaurant you can’t really hear everyone, but because it was a slow day we could all talk together.

The food was excellent. I had a steak and it was prepared perfectly. The others had burgers (which looked so good!!), pizza, (this also look jummy) and Laura had kung poa chicken. She asked if it could be nice and spicy and that what she got (maby a bit to spicy!). And even though I was absolutely stuffed and couldn’t possibly eat anything else, I had to have a birthday cake. So I ordered a cheesecake, with a candle. I was very good but I had to have help from everyone to eat it. I had my very first strawberry daiquiri. I am a non-alcoholic drinker (yes I know, weird!) and I was surprised that I liked it.

The waitress was very friendly and the service was good. If you are looking for a nice place to go out for dinner I really recommend this place.

For more information see their website

After dinner I said goodbye to everyone and went with another friend to the Chinese markets on Keefer street, downtown Vancouver.  It was a very small market but it was very nice, there was lots of food stalls, cellphone stalls and there was even a live band. It consisted of two people singing a song of which they probability did not know the text as they were reading it as they went. They could also use a singing lesson or two because it was not very good. But it was very funny to watch.

I had a great birthday, thanks to everyone who came out and celebrated with me.
