PuB NiGHT Review: The Mahony and Sons

What’s up peeps! It is a beautiful day here in Vancouver and it is time to try remembering what happened last night at our PuB NiGHT. In few words: it was a long night with a lot of people.

Night started at a pub called Mahoney and Sons. It is located at False Greek, at Stamps Landing and the view across the water to downtown is so beautiful. There was almost 25 people altogether and our tables were getting crowded. I was glad to see so many new faces at the pub night and everyone were making some new friends once again. We also joined the trivia night, a bit late tho, but it did not really matter since we were not that good at knowing the answers. We did got couple of them right!

We also had a reason to celebrate yesterday since it was Sara’s birthday! The waiters brought a piece of cake and ice cream for her and we also bought her the most disgusting shots the bar has to offer. You can guess which part of the present she appreciated more. Once more, Happy Birthday Sara!

Surprise surprise the night continued after Mahony and Sons. Some of us felt like the night was not over and we headed to a country club called the Yale. It was a pretty quiet last night but we didn’t mind. We had our own gang to create a party with. It was nice to play some pool because usually the club is so crowded that you don’t really have a chance to do that. I also tried riding the rodeo bull they have at the club and lets just say that I really need some more practice with that.

Big thanks to everyone who showed up, I had a great time with all of you!

On Sunday we are going to have a fun night playing laser tag. Remember to check the Facebook event for more details.

Review Granville Island

Last friday we went to the Cheesecake ETC for some delicious cheesecake afterwards we went to the Doolin’s for some drinks.

At the Cheesecake ETC you can choose between the original or the chocolate cheesecake. You can top them with a strawberry, raspberries or with a peanut butter cream. They also have daily specials, which was a cherry topping when we went. If you are not into to cheesecake you can also go for a Raisin & Walnut Cake or French toast. Not only delicious cheesecake can be ordered, also different lattes, teas and cold drinks are offered.

The Cheesecake ETC is located just of the Granville Brigde and opens at 7pm and stays open till 1am. So whenever you feel like dessert at night, this is the place the be. A nice cozy, candlelight-dark place.

After enjoying our cheesecake we decided to go to Granville Island for some drinks and a wander around, however the weather looked like rain, so we decided to go to Granville street and find a pub for some drinks. On Granville street we decided to go to the Doolin’s, a Irish pub on the corner of Granville and Nelson. At the Doolin’s we ordered some drinks and a couple more people went for poutine.

We hoped you enjoyed your cheesecake, see you at the Pub Night this week

ps: Don’t forget the rehearsal before the Pub Night (it’s a must, hehe)

INTERNeX Canada: Culture shock Christmas edition II

I think Christmas is getting more and more similar all over the world: special time to spend with the family and friends, eat good food, and spend a lot of money in gifts and parties.

But once again, I have to recognize that Spain is different! Our Christmas last longer! Yeah! And one of the biggest, and in particular my favorite festivity is the Three Wise Men, on January 6th!

For us, Santa is not that generous haha we usually receive one present on the 25th December, but the big day for the gifts is with “Los Reyes Magos”. The night of the 5th we had different parades for them and we usually eat “Roscon de Reyes”, a kind of special Christmas cake! Inside this sweet there is always two tiny pieces, a small figure and the other one is small legume. If you get the figure, you are supposed to have good luck and happiness during the year, but if you get the small legume you have to pay “el roscon”

For me it’s the perfect way to finish the Holidays! You are kind of upset because you had such a nice time during the holidays and you really don’t want to come back to your routine… but after receiving so many presents on the 6th it’s even exciting to come back to your normal life and wear for the first time that dress, perfume or whatever that you received!

We need to export our Three Wise Men here, more holidays, more presents, parades, sweets… a lot of pros, no cons at all!

Cheers,

Irene

Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory

Even the name sounds delicious. This store is amazing… but if you have a history of cavities or an upcoming dentist appointment – stay away from this place! Why? See for yourself.

This place could be your worst nightmare or your heaven on earth. If you’re like me… somedays it may be deadly to walk in here! I can be quite an impulsive shopper on an empty stomach. When I visited this store the other day, I walked out with an Apple Pie Caramel apple. It was absolutely divine! Everyone should visit this store while in Vancouver! They do have shops in other cities, but come on! Just look at all the goodies!

Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory is an international franchisor, confectionery manufacturer and retail operator in the United States, Canada and the United Arab Emirates. The Company is based in the charming old-west town of Durango located on the western slope of the Rocky Mountains in southwestern Colorado. From its 53,000 square foot factory, the Company manufactures an extensive line of premium chocolate candies and other confectionery products to supply its many franchise locations, delivered fresh by its fleet of refrigerated trucks.

The factory typically produces approximately 300 chocolate candies and other confectionery products, using proprietary recipes developed primarily by its master candy maker. These products include many varieties of clusters, caramels, creams, meltaways, truffles and molded chocolates. Individual stores prepare a variety of caramel and candy apples, fudge, chocolate items and confections in full view of the customer using traditional cooking utensils such as copper kettles on gas-fired stoves and marble slab cooling tables.

Neat huh? I’ll leave you with a few more pictures. If you would like to visit their website, click here! The location I visited was at 1017 Robson Street. They even had cute little piggy candy apples. They also serve fudge, ice cream and truffles. If you’re good you’ll show up just in time for samples 😉 …

That’s all for now guys! Gotta jet, I’m hungry…
