Smart Saver Vancouver

Since we know summer can become quite expensive we wanted to give you some ideas on things to do with a discount.

If you have been thinking about going kayaking to beat the heat, going to Bowen Island might be a good option for you. You can kayak around the island and get beautiful scenery. And if you go on a Tuesday with your friend, you can get two for the price of one!

Another fun thing to do is to go to Squamish and take the Sea to Sky Gondola. The normal price for the gondola is about $40 dollars, but if you go after 5 pm on Saturdays you get a 50% discount. And if you’re feeling adventures you could hike up and take the gondola down for only $15.

If you like to go to amusement parks you should definitely check out Playland. This is the oldest amusement park in Canada and it’s located at Hastings Park. You can get discounted tickets for the park at 7 eleven.

Going a bit further away for Vancouver can become expensive, as renting cars isn’t always that cheap here. If you’re going to stay here for a longer period it might be a good idea to check out Modo. This car sharing service is similar to car2go and Evo, except that you can book the car for weekends an take it further away. You pay a monthly fee for the subscription, but that’s only about $8. The car comes with a credit card to pay for gas and you get the first 200 km for free, after that you pay 20 cents per kilometer.

I hope you are all having a great summer and I hope to see you at PuB NiGHT tonight, as it will be my last!

Smart Saver Vancouver

Wednesday is almost over, but we still have enough time to save some money!! This week we are going to talk about saving money on transport, especially by car.

First of all, instead of taking public transport or a car it is always way cheaper to walk or go by bike. This is of course not in all cases possible if you don’t live close to work or outside of downtown.

7216872738_072f71e834_o.jpgIf you do want to go by car but you will not use it that often it is expensive to buy a car. A better and cheaper option is to look into companies like Car2Go, ZipCar or Evo. Those companies have a lot of cars around and in Vancouver and you can use them if you have a membership with one of those companies. The idea is just to share the cars and use them whenever you want. Another advantage is that you don’t have to park it at the same spot again, just another Car2Go, ZipCar or Evo parking spot in the city is fine!

When you are going to travel far by car it is a good idea to do a lot of research in the car renting companies. The cheapest way is to have a person that is 25 years old in your group, because then you don’t have to pay the extra fee for younger drivers. If you don’t have someone that is 25 years old it is still affordable to rent a car. There are lots of companies and with good research you can find the cheapest company. In my experience it is cheapest to rent a car at Budget, but sometimes the other companies have great deals too. So always keep that in mind!

I hope you can now save money on your trips, when they are close and/or far. See you guys tonight at PuB NiGHT!

INTERNeX Canada: Casual Friday – Tips for renting a car

Hey there,

Friday, the last day of the week so almost weekend!
Today I want to talk about renting a car in Canada. There are several option you might wanna know about! I discovered that there are a view things you should know before you rent one.

First of all you there are a lot of company’s around the Vancouver Airport area. Examples of these are Alamo, Budget, AVIS or Hertz.. It’s really easy to rent a car online from one of these companies. But, because of most of us are under the 25 you have to be aware of the age surcharge. This is a charge $25-30 each day you rent a car if you are under the 25 years old. Another thing is the damage collision waiver. If you do not select this extra insurance you are unprotected for accidents etc. This is also between the $25 dollars.

In other words, you have to expect a lot of extra costs on top of the price you see online. But to make it more easy Alamo has a special under age package. All the things I discussed above are included so you are fully protected. When you pick up the car you have to pay a full gastank and that’s it! If you do not have a lot of money this is the solution.

The other option for car rental is with one of the sharing car companies. The first one is Zipcar. This is a car sharing company that gives you temporary access to a car if you are +21. You can rent cars for $8 per hour (excl. yearly membership fee). All you need for this is a membership, your driver’s license and your driving record.

The second sharing car company called Car2Go. This is an easy option if you want to travel from point A to B. There is no return time or location. You look on the map, pick up the car, and when you’re done you can just park it within the home area of that car. Everything you need is included in one price, really easy!

This Sunday I have rented a small car via Alamo just for 1 day. It’s easy and close to Vancouver to make a daytrip to Whistler and the waterfalls!

Hope you have a great weekend as well,

Jelle
