Back from our White water Rafting Trip, it’s time to celebrate Canada Day !!

574980_4142545611678_759345892_nJuly 1st, and it’s the 146th Anniversary of this amazing land. If you didn´t know, this national day it´s a federal statutory holiday celebrating the anniversary of the July 1st, 1867 (Constitution Act, 1867, which confederated the country of Canada).

You can find celebrations everywhere across the country for Canada Day, usually outdoor events, such as barbecues, parades, fireworks, free concerts, carnivals and different kind of shows.

Here is a few things you can do in Vancouver today:

Canada Day at Canada Place: The biggest birthday bash outside of Ottawa. 25 music and dance performances on three stages, extreme sports, street food and the Canada Day Parade.

  • Waterfront Party: 10a.m.-6p.m.
  • Canada Day Parade: 7p.m-8p.m. (Starting at Georgia and Broughton Streets)

Canada Day Burrard Inlet Fireworks Show: One of the summers’ best fireworks shows. There is two bargers: one in Coal Harbour and one in Dundarave. Best viewing is from Canada Place or Coal Harbour Seawall.

  • Visible from different locations throughout the city: 10.30 p.m. -11 p.m.

Canada Day on Grandville Island: As part of the TD Vancouver International Jazz Fest, lots of free concerts will be staged at different stages throughout Grandville Island.

There is also a parade and face painting and roving clowns for kids.

  • Grandville Island: Noon -9.30 p.m.

What are the differences between Canada Day and Independence Day?

This week we have been speaking a lot about Canada day and Independence Day (celebrating too)…But what do you really know about these two festivities? Are there any differences between them?

The answer is yes, definitely.

Canada and United States got their independence from Great Britain in different ways.

Canada signed the British North America Act in a peaceful way in 1st July of 1867 and has good relations with Great Britain.

On the contrary United States was waging a war against Britain. After three years fighting Spanish and French people helped them and made possible that finally George Washington, won the battle. This situation was born because American people didn´t have any representation in British Parliament and it was also source of conflict that American colonists were paying high taxes to pay Britain´s debts. Two years later after finished the war, the 4th of July in 1776 the Declaration of Independence was made.

Before they got their independence, Canada was the joining of colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Province of Canada.

The way of celebrating is quite similar in both of them. There are usually lots of outdoor public events, like parades, concerts, carnivals, festivals, air and maritime shows and of course fireworks. It is usually normal to see flags everywhere too.
