INTERNeX Canada: The picture of the week

This picture explains it all. It just so happens to capture the perfect moment of our PR Intern Irene dancing the night away. With her arm high in the air, she seems like she’s having a great time on the dance floor! It was so much fun during the pub and club night at the Pint last month in January! So many people made it out to celebrate the night away as the Vancouver Canucks won 5-0 against Anaheim Ducks, and of course not to mention, it was a farewell party for our dear PR interns Irene and Queenie. There was dancing, laughter, cheering, and just about all the happiness in the world that night.

Cheers,

Flora

Casual Friday

It is time for our weekly casual Friday posts! As I’m sure not a lot of you will know, February is National Black History Month. This is celebrated every year in America and Canada; and in the UK in October. This remembrance month was set up in 1926, but was originally just for the second week of February. As the more people started to get involved it was decided that the whole month would be dedicated to it.

The main idea behind this month is to celebrate and remember the rich African and Caribbean History and iconic members of society that have had an influence on black history. During this month a diverse selection of events are going on in Vancouver, so be sure to keep an eye out for posters and such around the city.
To help you out a bit I’ve made a list of things to do that you might find interesting:

Thursday, February 9Saturday, March 10
THEATRE: Intimate Apparel
The Arts Club Theatre | Granville Island Stage
1585 Johnston Street

Friday, February 10 (8 pm)
Stayed on Freedom! A Musical Celebration of Black History Month
St. Andrew’s-Wesley United Church
SW corner of Burrard and Nelson

Saturday, February 11
(Beginners 6-7 pm, Advanced 7-8 pm) African Drumming Classes
Small World
2120 Commercial Drive

Click here for more information about the events mentioned above.

Thursday, February 23 (doors at 6:30pm)
PERFORMANCE: Skins & Steel Vancity Theatre 1181 Seymour Street

Monday, February 27 (7pm)

MOVIE: The Mighty Jerome Alice MacKay Room, Lower Level Central Library
350 West Georgia Street

Enrich your knowledge of Black History and visit one of these events; it’s always a great way to meet new people as well!

How was your weekend?

Hey guys, I hope you all had a great weekend and enjoyed the beautiful weather yesterday! My weekend was absolutely awesome! As some of you may already know; I am from the Netherlands! This Saturday there was a huge party in my country, because it was the queen’s birthday. You can probably compare it to Canada Day here. When it is Queensday in the Netherlands everyone is dressing up in orange (our national color) and we are celebrating the queen’s birthday in every city of Holland! Here is a picture to give you an idea…

Since I and some other people in my house are Dutch, we had to celebrate this of course!! 😀 So, on Friday night a bunch of Dutchies went to the Roxy’s and celebrated Queensnight together. Most of them were of course wearing orange clothing and drinking Dutch beer!

On Saturday we had to wake up really early in the morning, because some INTERNeX candidates and I were going to make a boat trip! We woke up at 6 in the morning to go all the way to Deep Cove, where the boat was located. It was pretty good weather and we were sitting on the front part of the boat in the sun. We had a beautiful view, fresh air, some drinks and music. It was a perfect day and the experience was amazing!
We saw an amazing waterfall which you can only access by boat! The owner of the boat had a BBQ on this boat, so for lunch we made delicious burgers! Unfortunately the rain kind of ruined our lunch, but it couldn’t ruin our day anymore!  It was a really unique boat trip and also a little bit a farewell for Bart, because he will be leaving us this Tuesday!

On Sunday I had a nice relaxing day. Finally the weather was so good that I’ve been outside the whole day, just lying in the sun with some of my housemates! I even got a little sun burn – that is how beautiful the weather was on Sunday!!

Now I am curious how your weekend was! Tell us by leaving a comment :D!!

Have a good beginning of the week!!

Cheers,
Claudia

PuB NiGHT – Review!

Hello everybody,

How is everyone feeling today? Last night we had our weekly PuB NiGHT again. We started off at the Cambie with some drinks and really cheap pitchers for only $9! The PR-crew arranged two big tables, so that everyone had a spot in the pub. Candidates from all over the world were chatting, mingling and having a good time with each other. Around 9ish more and more candidates were joining us, so in no time the reserved table was already too small for our big group!
Because one of the INTERNeX candidates, Pascal, celebrated his birthday in the Joseph Richards, we decided to go as a group to the JR and party on! In the JR everyone was dancing and we even had some dance battles going on!  For all the picture of last night, go to our Flickr page!

We would like to apologize to some of the candidates, because the Cambie wouldn’t let all of us in. They have really strict rules about ID-cards (they HAVE to be in English), and therefore some of our INTERNeX candidates weren’t allowed in! We tried to talk to the manager about this, but it didn’t help. So, our apologies to those who couldn’t get in. We will make sure this won’t happen again.

We hope everyone enjoyed the Wednesday night PuB NiGHT once again! Thanks for coming and we will see you next Wednesday!!

Cheers,
Your PR-team
