What to do on the weekend

Thank god it’s Friday! Which means it is almost weekend and weekend is always good, especially with the following things coming up:

Tonight INTERNeX will go to the Richmond Night Market close to Bridgeport Srichmondnightmarket1tation. This is the biggest night market in North America and it has over 500 food choices from all around the world, so you can definitely fill your tummies here! There are also live performances, over two hundred retail stalls and several games, so if you have nothing planned yet for tonight, you are welcome to join us.

Unfortunately we don’t have as great weather as last weekend, so I came up with some ideas for you to do this weekend where you don’t really need to stroll in the rain for or is still okay to do with an umbrella.

The Champions League Final is tomorrow and the Manchester Pub is broadcasting it! The duel starts at 11.45 AM Vancouver time, so if you are a real soccer fan and want to see the match between Juventus and Real Madrid go to the Manchester Pub on 1941 West Broadway. Besides this match, the Vancouver Whitecaps are also playing, so if you want to enjoy a more local match, definitely check this one out!

Besides the Richmond Night Market there are some other markets this weekend as well. The Eastside Flea is happening again this weekend, which is worth visiting. On Sunday there is the StreetFood Vancouver Festival at 88 Pacific Blvd. Fraser Valley Food Truck Festival and Memory Laine Events host the event. It has 22 Vancouver Food Trucks, an artisan market, live music and more entertainment for the entire family. And the good thing about this market is that there is no entrance fee.

I hope you all have a great weekend ahead of you and I hope to see you tonight in Richmond!

PuB NiGHT Review

“You Fat Bastard!” is what all the Whitecaps supporters yell to disturb the opponent’s goalkeeper.
Yesterday we collaborated together with International House, a language school we work closely with and went to see a CONCACAF game. It was the Vancouver Whitecaps vs Olimpia from Honduras.

First, we met with the language school students. It was quite interesting and it didn’t take long for everyone’s curiosity to get the better of them and mingle.
After growing into this big group we made our way to Doolin’s Irish Pub there we met the manager of International House who was just as excited to see the game as the rest of us. At Doolin’s we drunk a quick pint of beer before we all marched together with many other Whitecaps supporters to BC Place who were beating drums and cheering all the way there.

Finally following our arrival at the stadium and getting our seats in the supporter’s corner the game began. The Whitecaps were dominating the game from the beginning but only in the 42nd minute were they able to score a goal through Kianz Froese! 1-0 for the Whitecaps! And the fans cheered with all their might.

For the second half the Vancouver soccer team decided to play a little more defensive. However this gave Olimpia more chances which made the game even more exciting than the first 45 minutes. There were some pretty close calls but luckily the Whitecaps were able to keep the score and leave the stadium as winners.

In the meantime many of our other INTERNeXers gathered together for the “Alternative Pub Night” organized by Steve. We joined them at Steamworks after the game and brought along some of the students from International House.

It was an awesome night with lots of fun and excitement!
See you next time!

Cheers

INTERNeX Canada: How was your weekend?

And it’s Monday again! This weekend went really fast for me. Maybe because of the rain showers all days.. However, let’s talk about the weekend!

On Saturday we organised the Champions League Final in The Blarney Stone. Because of the time difference with Europe we had to watch around noon.
Despite the rain a lot of people turn up! We ordered some beers and some food. The match was played on the LARGEST SCREEN of Vancouver. Like a 7 meter HD wide screen!

So the match began and we’re all excited! It was a really intense game with a lot of changes for both sides. In the first half everybody was complaining about Arjen Robben.. He had a few good changes to shoot Bayern in front but he missed all of these! In the second half he made it all good. First a assist for the opening goal. After that a penalty for Dortmund followed so the match was 1-1. Till the end of the match everybody thought about a draw and extra time, penalties?

But, 88 min (no Bayern fan will ever forget this moment!) Arjen Robben passed the ball underneath the goalie of Dortmund and made himself the (Dutch) matchwinner!
The whole place was going crazy (except some Dortmund fans of course). We drank another beer for this victory and had a great afternoon!

Thank you for all the amazing people that turned up. I enjoyed every minute on Saturday. Hopefully you did the same! By the way. Sorry for the Dortmund fans. I’m writing this as a Bayern fan. 😉

Cheers

INTERNeX Canada: Casual Friday. Champions League time!

Hey everybody,

This week was a short one. On Monday we where free because of Victoria Day, so the weekend is almost here! This Saterday (May 25th) the Champions League Final will take place!
This year we have a 9 hour time difference with Europe. So, at lunchtime we will watch the final together!

I want to share my thoughts about this match on this casual Friday.
Quite fun that it will be a German final. Back in December I was in the Amsterdam ArenA supporting my team AFC Ajax Amsterdam. The opponent was Borrussia Dortmund. We had some good hope that we could beat them. (we just beat Manchester City with 3-1 and 2-2 away). Not knowing that ‘they’ will be one of the Champions League finalist a few months later. By the way, they beat Ajax with 1-4 … enough about Dortmund.

The other team is Bayern München. This team had some bad luck the last couple of years. First they lost the Champions League Final in 2010 against Inter Milan. Last year they lost it from Chelsea (unfair), when they were playing at home.

So Bayern wants some revenge, and Dortmund want to beat their biggest rival.
I think it will be a great match with some awesome soccer! Especially from the actions of Arjen Robben, the best player of Bayern München of course 😉

So if you want, you can join us tomorrow morning at The Blarney Stone.  (see our Facebook event for more info) I’m really looking forward for this match because I’m a big soccer fan!

Have a good weekend,

Jelle
