Review: PuB NiGHT at Warehouse

Thank you all for joining our PuB NiGHT at The Warehouse yesterday. We had a great time.

We went to The Warehouse to eat some delicious meal. Not only because they have great food, but it is also very cheap to eat there. After we finished our meals, the first people were arriving at the pub. We moved to the back where we had our reserved area. Because so many people showed up, it became cosy.

After a couple hours and a few drinks later, most of the people were ready to continue the party at the Met. A few songs later most of the people decided to go home after a great night. See you all next PuB NiGHT and hope to see you Monday as well at 21268287_1463187083769958_1416448118_oMusic in the Park.

P.S. Sorry, I didn’t mentioned Alan in the last blog post ‘How was your weekend?’. I am truly sorry, hope it is all good now 😉

PR-team Adventures

Bowen Island is a cute little island, which you can reach by ferry from the Horseshoe bay terminal. It is great for hiking, touring and for water activities. About two weeks ago I decided to go to Bowen Island again, as I already did a hike there, I decided to go on a little adventure on the water this time.

We went on a Tuesday, as kayaking is two for the price of one on this day. This is also the case for double kayaks, but then you are paying half the price. We didn’t look up the schedule, as I thought that the ferry would go every hour. However, the hour we arrived they had a break and skipped one hour, which meant that we had to wait for quite a while.

20597183_10209637728721006_5804068957476516703_nAs it was great weather, we decided to sit on the upper deck, so we could see all the surroundings during our journey to Bowen Island. I always like to be on a ferry, as it gives me a feeling that I am having a boat tour. Besides that, the views in Vancouver never get old.

Once we arrived at Bowen Island, we immediately went to the kayak rental. The first few minutes they explained us how to kayak and then we could finally start our adventure. I was really glad that my boyfriend already did kayaking beforehand, which was also the reason why he had to go on the spot in the back. Here you need to give all the directions to the kayak.

20526066_10209637728080990_8039919387325901933_n

In the beginning my arms were hurting all the time, but after a while I got over the pain and could fully enjoy the activity and the surroundings. We went all the way to the top of the island and back. On our way we saw a lot of other people who did kayaking and also saw the ferry pass a few times.

As we got more comfortable with kayaking, we started singing together. Sometimes we embarrassed ourselves a bit, as we were singing some really bad songs. However, it made it way more fun. We already reached the top of the island pretty fast and therefore we took it a bit slower on our way back. In this way we could really take in the beautiful views that we had from our kayak.

After our adventure we tried to find a chocolate shop that my roommate recommended, but unfortunately all the shops at Bowen Island closes at 5 PM already and so was the chocolate shop. Then we decided to go back to Vancouver again.

I hope to talk to you about all your adventures from this weekend tonight at PuB NiGHT!

Smartsaver Vancouver

Summer is finally here! During summer time there is a lot to do around Vancouver and there are some good cheap options for that! So to get your summer started here are some ideas.

From July 4th till August 22nd you can watch an outdoor movie for free on Second Beach. They are a part of the Evo Summer Cinema series and all you have to do is bring your own chair or blanket, or just sit on the grass if you don’t mind! You can download the free Outdoor Movies BC App to see the schedule!

They also show outdoor movies in Burnaby, North Vancouver and at Canada Place. Burnaby shows movies on Sundays from July 9th till August 27th. The dates for North Vancouver differ, so make sure to look that up if you decide to go. Every Thursday night there will be a movie at Canada Place from July 27th till August 31st. All of these movies are free to watch!

grouse grind

If you would like to become a little more active this summer you can take Zumba classes at Canada place. Every Monday from July 24th till August 28th you can join the free Zumba class! Or hike the Grouse Grind to see the beautiful view from the top of the mountain. If you hike up, you only have to pay $10 to take the Gondola back down.

If it becomes too warm to do something active you can always cool down in the Kitsilano pool. The pool is located at Kitsilano Beach and the admission is only $5.86!

You might have been thinking about doing a boat tour around Vancouver, but these can be quite expensive, so a great alternative to that is taking the Aquataxi. The Aquataxi will take you around downtown, but it’s only around $6!

And let’s not forget that all the beaches around Vancouver are free and a perfect place to spend a lazy day!

I hope to see you all tonight on PuB NiGHT!

Smart Saver Vancouver

If you love books as much as I do, then you also know that books can be very expensive. It might be worth checking out one of these stores to find a few cheap books.

Macleod’s bookstore is a bookstore at West Pender street which sells a big variety of books. Some of them are really expensive while other books are only $1. The bookstore has lots of books so if you are on a search for a really cheap book, then you should schedule some hours to hunt for the right book.

18836307_10209107877715062_1345240024_oIf you would rather spend less time in finding a cheap book then go to Spartacus books or Paper Hound bookshop. Paper Hound has a shell outside their store with only cheap books and Spartacus books has a $2 shelf. While you are at Spartacus books you might as well make use of the free WiFi and the board games.

When your books do not fit in your suitcase anymore or when it is time to get rid of some old books and freshen your bookshelf with new books, then you can go to Tanglewood books. At this bookstore you can trade or sell your books between 10 AM and 4 PM. So in this way your books can get a nice new home while you can buy new books without worrying about the weight and space in your suitcase.

I hope this will help you save some money!!!

Smart Saver Vancouver

It’s time for the Smart Saver again and this time I would like to give you a few cheap options for my favourite activity; eating.

Bon’s Off Broadway
If you partied a little too hard at PuB NiGHT you might want to get a good breakfast to come back to life. A cheap place to go is Bon’s Off Broadway. Here you can have breakfast and brunch for only $2.95. Obviously you shouldn’t expect a 5-star restaurant for those prices, but the food is actually pretty good. They are located on 2451 Nanaimo Street and are open Monday – Friday from 7:00 AM till 8:00 PM and Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 AM till 8:00 PM.

Hi-Five
A great place to get lunch if you’re in Gastown is Hi-Five. They make a few different grilled cheeses varying from $3 to $6. However, they are only open on Thursday from 6:00 PM till midnight and Friday and Saturday from 8:00 PM till 2:00 AM.

Gringo
If you like tacos Gringo is the place for you. This cool, upbeat and very colourful taco bar is located in Gastown and their prices start at $2.75 per taco and $3.75 for a Lager or Pale Ale.

Tacotime
Another option for tacos is going to Tacotime. This fast food like restaurant for tacos has four locations in downtown and serves tacos, burritos and a few other dishes. There is also the option to make your dish a meal. You can find one of these in the food court right next to our office.18516328_1752580871424023_1394152612_n

The Hastings Warehouse / The Famous Warehouse / The Capital
These are the places where the dishes are only $5 each. The menus are all quite similar and even though it’s only 5 dollar, the food is pretty good. The Hastings Warehouse is located at 156 West Hastings Street, The Famous Warehouse at 989 Granville Street and The Capital on 1778 Davie Street.

Street Food Vancouver
Another great option for food is a food truck, you can find them around the city and a lot of them have really good food. A good way to find one is by using the Street Food Vancouver App. This will show you which ones are open and where you can find them.

I hope to see you all tonight at The Charles Bar!

Smart Saver Vancouver

As most of you spent a lot of money during your stay, it might be good to save some money as well. Even though we would like to save money, we still want to do as much as possible. These Smart Savers are the perfect option for some cheap activities.

Tuesday is the time for you to do some activities in Vancouver. Remember when we told you about the discounts on Tuesday at several cinemas? There are lots of free activities on Tuesday as well. Some museums in Vancouver offer free admission on certain days. Vancouver Art Gallery, for example, offers admission by donation on Tuesdays. So if you are really into arts, this is a great opportunity for you to see some.

No time on Tuesday? Then there are still plenty of activities left for you. The GMS observatory is all year round admission by donation as well. It is a place where you can take a look at the stars through a telescope. You can find this attraction next to the Space Centre. Time to let your inner astronaut free! Another option could17091377_10208378125391710_1431619593_o also be the Burnaby Village Museum. This museum is free all year round, so there is plenty of time for you to visit it.

Besides that, the Vancouver Convention Centre offers free guided public tours throughout the year. During the guided tours they will talk about the rooftop, the wood used for the interior and the art exhibits. The place to be for interior designers, I would say. However, they only offer it at select days due to busy activities held in the Convention Centre. Check out their website for more information about their schedule for the public tours!

Lastly, you can also enjoy a day at the UBC Museum of Anthropology. Unfortunately, this museum is not free, but it is cheaper on Thursday evenings between 5 PM and 9 PM. If you liked the totem poles in Stanley Park, then you should definitely check out this museum. The exhibition entails artifacts and objects which have been created by the First Nations people. You get to know a bit more about the history of Vancouver and Canada by visiting this museum. The admission is normally $18. Save some money by going on Thursday evening with a ticket of only $10.

Time to rock your night away!

A special update on what you can do in the weekend! Are you looking for something to do on Friday? Then this is your chance!

This Friday The Quixotic Neurotics are going to perform at Studio Records. They will blow your mind with their alternative music! Their songs are mainly covers16521763_10154812412111421_670351408_n at the moment, so you may even know some songs as well! The concert is only $10 if you pay it in advance and $12 when you get tickets at the door. It is quite hard to find a concert for such a cheap price. Therefore, if you like this kind of music, you should definitely check it out! The doors open at 7.30 pm, so it is easy to combine with your placement. As this performance will take place in a pub, you are only able to go there if you are 19+.

That is not even all of it, The Quixotic Neurotics are supporting The Ashes together with Cheap Flavor and LoveLation. That means you get to listen to 4 bands for only $12! The Ashes is a French band with the genre Noisy Pop. They have been combining melodies of post punk and rock ever since 2012. Furthermore, the Canadian alternative blues rock band Cheap Flavor will give you the opportunity to get to know a music genre, which you do not hear that often. Lastly, LoveLation is a Canadian rock band which was inspired by the 60s and 70s music. This combined with modern grunge is their music like we know it today.

Together they are going to make sure that your night will be unforgettable!
