To all INTERNeX candidates…Your support is needed!

Hi everybody!

I hope you are all enjoying your time in Canada!

We are really impressed by your great input, such as the report about the last Canucks game that Florian sent to us (thanks, Florian!). It is a pleasure for us to be part of your experience in Canada and we are glad that you also want to share it with the rest of the world!

As you might remember, INTERNeX recently uploaded a video of the Snowtubing event on youtube. We received a lot of positive feedback and want to continue shooting short clips about INTERNeX events and more importantly your experiences.

The INTERNeX family of candidates is continuously growing. Therefore we want to provide potential candidates with your opinion on INTERNeX, the program you are on and your time in Canada. The idea is basically to film testimonials of YOU! Our INTERNeX family. If you would like to share your experiences, be on camera and on our YouTube channel, please don’t hesitate to contact us at pr@internexcanada.com! It will help folks just like you who are interested in coming to Canada and following one of our programs to get a better understanding of what the internship, hospitality, volunteer or city placement program is about.

It will be a lot of fun to film the clips since the set will not be in the office. We will go outside and visit some nice locations of Vancouver. Maybe you have an idea where to go? What is your favorite place in this beautiful city? Maybe we can drop by your placement company and do the interview!

Let me know!

Cheers,

Ziska

INTERNeX Pot Luck June 6!

Since last weekend’s barbecue went so well, INTERNeX has decided to use food once more to bring people together! Join other INTERNeX participants on June 6 for a Potluck dinner! Come to the INTERNeX house around 6:30 p.m., and join in on the fun! This will be a relaxing evening featuring a nice dinner party.

If you don’t know what a potluck is, then you need to participate! A potluck is a gathering of people where each person contributes a dish of food to be shared among the group. This is a great way to show your cultural background, so bring a dish that best represents your country! It will be a fun way to teach others about where you’re from and learn about other people too! After all, food is a way that cultural groups express their way of living!

Please e-mail me at pr@internexcanada.com to tell me what you’re bringing. This is so we don’t have duplicates of dishes. If you don’t know where the staff house is, also e-mail me for directions!  You can bring an appetizer, main course or dessert! It’s completely up to you! We really hope you can make it!

Next PuB NiGHT June 10!

Thanks to everyone that came out last night to Malone’s Pub and Grill, I hope you had a great time! Haven’t made it out to INTERNeX PuB NiGHT yet? Don’t miss out on the next one happening June 10 at the Blarney Stone! Swing by around 8 p.m. and meet other INTERNeX program participants!

On Thursday night, Dance mob will be spinning the best of Top 40 rock and dance covers! More than just an Irish Pub, the Blarney Stone is Vancouver’s Institution for Irish Food, Entertainment, and Atmosphere.  Voted Best Irish pub in Vancouver again last year, the Blarney Stone offers a unique pub experience by day and rip roaring, feet stomping good times by night.  Conveniently located in the centre of Vancouver’s historic Gastown District, the Blarney Stone is both a local favourite and tourist destination.

This 7,000 square foot venue is pleasantly divided into many different areas and atmospheres.  As a traditional Irish pub, we have seating options from cozy booth snugs and large wing back loungers, to a shared spot at a long table or a seat at any one of our three bars.

The Blarney Stone has a large selection of Draft Beers, Scotches, and Whiskeys (they are Irish after all!), and Vodkas from around the world.  We have a newly renovated kitchen and our menu is a mix of authentic Irish food and dishes with a modern and international flare.

Have a pint with friends after work or watch almost any game on one of our many Plasma TV’s.  Later in the evening, mix it up on our large dance floor!

INTERNeX’s First PuB and CLUB NiGHT!!

Hey everybody, so Tiffany and I have been talking about trying to bring you guys more events since INTERNeX PuB NiGHT has become such a success! Because our PuB NiGHT is usually scheduled for a Monday night it is at times difficult for people to come down because they have to get up early the next morning for work or some other obligations. So we’ve been wracking our brains and we thought what better way to solve this issue then to have our very own CLUB NiGHT. Vancouver has so much to offer in terms of its nightlife and we want to provide you with the opportunity to explore the numerous clubs that this great city has to offer. So for the following Friday, March 26th 2010, I have decided to organize a CLUB NiGHT at one of Vancouver’s hottest spots. For those of you who are interested in meeting other INTERNeX clients and sitting down for a nice chat over a cool beer, we will be having a predrink at a PuB prior to heading out to the bar. The location of this PuB will be determined closer to the date. After a few drinks and perhaps some shots whoever is interested can join Tiffany and myself to a nightclub where we can drink some more and let out all of the stress from the week. For those of you are interested in signing up for this event please contact me. If we have enough people signing up then the event will be a huge success and hopefully we can get a discount…bonus!

Meet a New Staff Member

So it has been a few weeks since we had our last INTERNeX staff member introduction. Life here in the office has been pretty crazy and I’ve had a few bumps along the rode so i hope you enjoy one of the few remaining expose’s. This week you will gain a glimpse into Marien one of our lovely staff members who has a lot to offer to both INTERNeX and you…

What is your first name?
Marien

Where are you from?
Mexico City

What languages do you speak fluently other than English?
Spanish and I used to be fluent in Italian because I used to live there back in 1991-1992, but not anymore

What position do you hold at INTERNeX? And for how long have you been working here?
I am the program manager for hospitality and I have been working in/at INTERNeX for the past two years and a half

What made you want to become involved with INTERNeX in the first place?
Years ago I was working in an international programs office at one of the main private universities in Mexico City. I was primarily responsible for student placements within their field of study and INTERNeX was actually one of our partners and that is how I came to meet Tim.

In what ways do you think INTERNeX is unique from other international placement agencies? What does INTERNeX specifically offer that no other company can?
First and foremost our tailor made placements. In this process we are focusing primarily on the participants and their personal goals and from there we find a suitable position for them. Another important and unique aspect of our company is our international team and work environment. We are all highly committed to this companies missions and values and we appreciate the fact that even though we have a substantial amount of systems and procedures in place, we are granted a considerable amount of freedom in which we can truly flourish. Given this room for innovation INTERNeX can always be one step ahead

What changes within INTERNeX have you personally witnessed since you have joined the team?
The city placement program has grown and developed on an exponential level. And we now have INTERNeX New Zealand

Where would you like to see INTERNeX in the next 10 years? Do you have any New Year’s goals for the company?
As other staff members have mentioned previously, I too would like to see at least one INTERNeX office, both for in and outbound, in each continent all around the world. Now what I mean by in and out bound is that we will cater to both international clients wanting to come into Canada and Canadians interested in travelling/working abroad

Tell us one interesting thing about yourself that not a lot of people know?
As most of my candidates I took a gap year myself back in high school. I lived, worked and traveled in Europe for a year and a half. I studied English, worked as an au-pair and even as a cleaner so I can truly relate with all of the participants of our hospitality program.

Oh and another thing is that when I was young I wanted to be an Olympic gymnast. At age 6 I was already training 4 hrs a day, but then my family and I moved to a smaller city where there were no Olympic trainers so I unfortunately had to find a new dream.

If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be and why?
Well surprise surprise I have to say Vancouver. Coming from Mexico, which is a highly commercialized area with lots of, Vancouver just seems like this evergreen oasis in comparison. It is by far one of the most beautiful cities in the world and everyday I continue to be taken aback by all that is has to offer. But open to new cities and experiences.

Employee of the Month

Hello, everyone. How is everything going?

Things are humming so much in Vancouver and there is no telling when this city will get back to normal. Many events are taking place every day and there are large crowds of people downtown.
As I mentioned before, we have selected our Vancouver based “employee of the month” . I would like to introduce “employee of the month”
Charlotte Jaursch from Blenz Coffee(Hastings st and Richard st)
Her employer Edward commented;”She has natural skills, really likes to work, and she can make a really nice drinks for customers. Edward also hopes that Charlotte will succeed in winning a prize at the “Latte Art” competition.
We admire Charlotte for her efforts and enthusiasm.
All of us here at INTERNeX would like to take a moment to thank our clients for their continued efforts, endeavors and devotion. Feedback from employers has been very positive.

When we asked:

“How can our clients improve their skills?”

Most of employers answered:

“Just keep smiling”. (I really like this answer)

Remember; even in the hardest of times, you can get through it with a big bright smile. We are so fortunate to live and work in such a beautiful city with such amazing people.
We look forward to seeing you with you great smile around our city soon, and if you have spare time, please feel free to drop by the office and share some of that smile with us 😉

Thank you

New Offer! PraXus Online

So as some of you may know INTERNeX is offering yet another opportunity for it’s clients to gain more invaluable experiences. For those of you are participating in one of our programs and are interested in taking your skills to the next level do we have something great for you! Countless times I’ve heard from clients how they fail to see how working in a coffee shop, for example, can help them in their future career goals. Well the courses that are offered by our PraXus Center for Integrated Learning can take you to that next level and earn you accreditation that future employers will be impressed by.

For the month of March INTERNeX will be offering a course within the Hospitality & Tourism sector which will qualify you to be a certified Food & Beverage Server. This course starting from March 4th 2010 and will allow you (no matter where you are) to attend online classes held for a total period of four weeks, with classes occurring twice a week for 2.5 hours. After this short time you will have achieved the nationally recognized position of Food & Beverage Server with the Tourism Certified Professional (TCP) credential, and ultimately be counted amongst the elite in the industry! This is an opportunity not to be missed and since this is the first time that INTERNeX is offering something of this magnitude we will be giving our first group of students a highly discounted price. This online course usually costs $650.00 but for just this once we will be bringing it down to a shocking $100, which is an undeniably reasonable and affordable price. We have room for a total of 10 people in this first set and places are filling up fast so we recommend that you jump on this opportunity before it goes. This is a way of getting a leg up in the industry and offer employers something that few Canadians even have! So if you need more information to be convinced or are dying to enroll already then please email us at info@praxusonline.com and visit our praXus facebook page and become a fan in order to receive constant updates on upcoming courses.
