The Latest Update on Vancouver Fashion Week

A little recap of the event that took over Vancouver!

Catwalk down the runway!!!

As you all know, we had a lucky winner, Melissa, that came along with us to the Vancouver Fashion Week!

Say CHEESE!

When we arrived at Empire Landmark Hotel, we walked into a room of bustling, excited chatter, and paparazzi-like media that stood at the end of the walkway, anticipating the catwalk by the models.

Papillon Theme

The event was mainly local and international.  We saw many designers, as they proudly displayed their masterpieces onto the models.  There are some very unique pieces, such as the inspiration from nature—papillon (meaning butterfly).  As the models walked down the runway, music accompanied the theme of the clothing line.

As the day went on, more and more people showed up.  By the time we left, we saw a long line-up of people, clutching onto their tickets and eagerly waiting to enter the room that contains the glamour of fashion, music, and of course, the flashing lights from many cameras from all around the room.

Vancouver Fashion Week Contest #1

A Recap of Vancouver Fashion Week Contest #1

As Vancouver Fashion Week is inching closer, there are fun and fashion-orientated contests to challenge your inner fashionista.  The first contest was for all Vancouver Fashionistas!

Let’s take a recap of Vancouver Fashion Week’s two contests that allowed you to play with fashion!

There was a contest for the “classy and fabulous”.

What does the word classy mean to you?

Being classy does not mean being stuck-up, but dressed in a refined and dignified manner.  There’s a movie on Coco Chanel, where she is portrayed as a confident woman, with a forward-thinking notion on what fashion for women means.  For Chanel, clothing is meant to accentuate a woman’s body, but most importantly, it is meant to be comfortable.

Participants took pictures of themselves and chose their classiest photo and post it on Facebook for their chance to win a pair of tickets to a Vancouver Fashion Week show!

Get Freaky With It!

If you are a daredevil who wants to unleash your inner fashionista, then those participants opted for this “Fashion Loves a Freak” contest.  They picked a crazy outfit and pose in all its outrageousness.  Just a reminder that this outfit has to still be appropriate, meaning it should be tastefully avante-garde fashion.  They were encouraged to check out some magazines for inspiration on how models dress in the type of fashion that you don’t normally find in your grandmother’s closet, that pushes the limits, yet doesn’t cling to your body in an unflattering and gaudy manner.
