How was the weekend? – Artsy and wet

The long weekend is over and a short week lies ahead. How did you spend your time?

Were you with us at the art walk on Friday? Even though it was a classic Raincouver winter night with breezy temperatures and light rain I really loved what I’ve seen and learned on this guided tour, e.g. some mind blowing AR installations which you could access by scanning a QR code on your phone. My favourite was one that let you see some paintings around you and as you walked closer it seemed like you were IN the painting! I saw beautiful skies with Northern Lights even though I was just standing at Canada Place. Another one of my favourites was a mural which itself already is impressive, but if you scan the QR code next to it and point your camera you’ll be able to see the mural move! There were many more interesting facts and stunning art along the way, if you haven’t been I’d recommend you check it out! It’s by donation, so make sure you show your appreciation by at least $10 for the guide which is super inexpensive for what you get. 🙂

After the walk some of us grabbed a drink and some food at the arts hub located at the Vancouver Art Gallery. The entrance is free and there’s still lots of events going on.
To top it off we danced at the VMF After Dark x AfroQueer YVR: Black Rave which had an all woman DJ line-up with taste makers of the Vancouver Drag scene. I’ve never been in a space with so many cool people at once and I loved every second of it, you could tell the energy was nothing but positive. ðŸ™‚

Saturday was a rest day for me and Sunday I met some friends for brunch at a restaurant on Commercial Drive. If you look for good food in a cool area that’s the place to go to! Commercial Drive offers a lot of great restaurants, especially amazing Italian Pizza and Pasta, but really you’ll find almost anything there! Afterwards we went bowling and of course had some more food. 😀 In order to get rid of all those extra calories we went to go snowboarding on Grouse Mountain early Monday morning. Unfortunately it was raining a lot resulting in us being completely soaked after a couple of hours, not the most fun I must say and really cold! After a hot coffee we decided to go back home, take a hot bath and just prepare for the week ahead of us. I will try again another time with better weather. 😉

I hope you stayed nice and dry while enjoying your weekend activities! Can’t wait to hear about it at Pub Night.

Cheers,

Laura 🙂

What to do on the weekend?

It’s Friday so… cheers to the weekend! I don’t know about your Friday night plans, but mine are pretty cool if I may say so myself. What I’m doing? Well, I’m going to the Rogers Arena to see Harry Styles Live on Tour. I bought my tickets about a year ago, so it is safe to say I am very excited about it. (There are still a few tickets left, in case you’re interested). But before my excitement takes over, let me tell you about the events happening in Vancouver this weekend.

According to the weather forecast, it will be rainy this Saturday. However, the temperature will be around 21 degrees, so as long as you have an umbrella, you should be good to go. Now the weather issue is solved, we are left with just one more: what to do? But don’t you worry, I got you!

Carnaval del Sol, the largest Latin American festival in the Pacific Northwest, is taking place in Vancouver this weekend. On Saturday as well as Sunday, visitors can enjoy live music, Native Canadian and Latin American art, traditional folk dances, cooking lessons and a fashion show. All with the purpose of celebrating Latin America! If you enjoy learning more about other cultures and partying, this is THE event for you. Entrance is only $2 by donation for adults. Tip: Buy a Super Pass for $10 so you can receive gifts, skip the line at e.g. the beer garden and… wait for it: you can win a trip for two to Latin America! The festival opens at 11am, closes at 10pm and it is located at Concord Pacific Place.

20872046193_b77294e20c_n.jpgIs the World Cup all you have been talking about the past couple of weeks? Well, then you might be interested in the next event I am about to mention. On Saturday evening, the Vancouver Whitecaps will play against Chicago Fire at BC Place. It starts at 7:30pm and lucky for you, there are still some tickets left! You can buy them here.

It’s the weekend of festivals! Besides the one I mentioned earlier, there is another one on Commercial Broadway. The Commercial Drive Car-Free Festival, to be exact. This festival commenced in 2005 and has taken place on a yearly basis ever since. 9317994916_5cd2675451_n It covers 15 blocks in the area and includes live music, community activities, local artisans and a wide variety of great food to choose from. Moreover, the message behind the festival will be discussed. It is opened from 12pm until 7pm and there is no entrance fee. FYI: TransLink will re-route the Commercial Drive bus this Sunday, in order for the festival area to be as accessible and car-free as possible.

I hope all of you will have a great weekend and I will see you next Wednesday at Malone’s for PuB NiGHT!

What to do on the weekend

Only a few more hours till the weekend! The weather on Saturday isn’t going to be that good, but Sunday should be a little better.

On Sunday the INTERNeX gang will be going to Granville Island. There is a public market with lots of food, so make sure you come with an empty stomach! There are also a lot of cute little shops.

However, if that’s not enough food for you, you can always go to the Surrey Greek Food Festival. This is a community festival whit a lot of Greek food. You can go on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and there is no admission fee.

Another option is going to Commercial Drive on Sunday for Italian Day on the Drive, this street festival celebrates Italy. And while you’re on Commercial Drive you should do a little pub crawl through all the micro breweries that you can find there. At the micro breweries you can get a couple of tasters for a few dollars.

If you would rather do something relaxing but cheap, you can go to the family favourites movies at Cineplex for $2.99. At 11 AM on Saturday they will show A Dogs Purpose at select theatres.

Like every weekend there are a lot of farmers markets. On Friday night there is the Richmond Night Market and the Illumination Summer Night Market. On Saturday you can go to markets in Abbotsford, Burnaby, Fort Langley, Maple Ridge, Trout Lake and Squamish. And on Sunday you can go to Ambleside, Coquitlam, Kitsilano, Ladner, White Rock and Whistler.

I hope you have a great weekend and I’ll see you at PuB NiGHT!

Review: Pub Night @ the Reef

Yesterday we went for a great Pub Night at the Reef. We almost passed the Caribbean restaurant because the sign outside was very small. The Reef is in general not that big and so it was pretty cozy to sit there. As you can see on the picture we had a lot of fun and enjoyed the evening by chatting about various topics like the famous Manneken – Pis in Belgium. It was great to see some new faces again. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us because we really want you to enjoy your stay here in Vancouver and we will do our best to make you get the most out of your stay.

The food was good and they also offered a delicious selection of beers and cocktails. For me it was the first time that I tried Poutine. Even though it was really spicy I liked it. For those of you, who don’t know Poutine, it’s fries with melted cheese, sauce and chicken and typical for this area. So it’s one of the things you have to eat during your stay in Vancouver.

Hope you all had a great evening and I’m looking forward to see you again for another Pub Night next Wednesday at 7 pm.
Have a look here to see some more pictures from the evening at the Reef.

I wish you a great rest of the week and an enjoyable weekend.

I’m looking forward to the Whistler trip with some of you, guys.
