Easter Long Weekend!

So the four-day-long weekend is approaching and I’m sure you guys are looking forward to a little time off…I am at least. I will be using this time to catch up on all my school work but my calender is filled with so many fun events I might just have to take at least one night off from work…maybe two. But I was browsing through our ECal and saw a few events around Canada that I thought might be of interest to you guys.

First I have the 13th Annual Showcase Showdown presented by Burton this Saturday April 3rd 2010. Held up in our very own Whistler up on Blackcomb Mountain. If you like to party up in the Nintendo Terrain Park then this is the event for you guys! This Showcase Showdown features a VANS Off the Wall Waffle Breakfast, Samsung Best Trick Contest, a Bar-B-Que on the Hill and the Showcase 20 year Anniversary Afterparty!! If you are interested in this event or want to find more events up in Whistler then visit their website

Secondly, the city of Calgary the CBI Health Hustle for Hunger 2010. Hosted this Sunday, April 4th 2010 at the Eau Claire Market. You can still participate or just watch this run/walk and all the proceeds raised from this event will be going to the Calgary Inter-Faith Food Bank. All participants will get a free technical t-shirt with entry along with goodies from our sponsors. See their website for registration and/or event details

These are just some of the events occuring all around Canada. If you want to find an event in your area keep checking our ECal and/or facebook page and for more information on INTERNeX related events you can also feel free to contact us at the office

Sleep-less in Seattle

So I just came back from a weekend in Seattle and I had an amazing time! I swiped the plastic quite a bit and wracked myself up a nice little bit of debt but it was totally worth it. The shopping in Seattle is well worth the 2 1/2-3 hour drive because there is so much choice for quite a reasonable price. I bought two pairs of gorgeous shoes, some jeans, shorts, and a bunch of tops and definitely got a great deal. For those of you who don’t own a car and might have some difficulties in trying to arrange all the necessary steps towards taking a road trip to the states I think i might have an option for you. One of  our partner companies, West Trek, offers a Budget Shopping/Sightseeing tour in and around Seattle. You have two options:

1) A Budget Shopping Tour which includes; a) round trip school bus transportation, b) 4-5 hours of shopping (duty free too) and c) a friendly Canadian guide

or…2) A Deluxe Shopping or Sightseeing Tour which includes; a) round trip deluxe bus transportation, b) 4-5hrs of shopping with a discounted coupon book or a guided sightseeing tour with discounted attractions

These trips will be offered generally at least one a month so if you are at all interested or would like to find out more information about the trip itinerary itself, prices, etc please do not hesitate to email me at pr@internexcanada.com

INTERNeX’s First PuB and CLUB NiGHT!!

Hey everybody, so Tiffany and I have been talking about trying to bring you guys more events since INTERNeX PuB NiGHT has become such a success! Because our PuB NiGHT is usually scheduled for a Monday night it is at times difficult for people to come down because they have to get up early the next morning for work or some other obligations. So we’ve been wracking our brains and we thought what better way to solve this issue then to have our very own CLUB NiGHT. Vancouver has so much to offer in terms of its nightlife and we want to provide you with the opportunity to explore the numerous clubs that this great city has to offer. So for the following Friday, March 26th 2010, I have decided to organize a CLUB NiGHT at one of Vancouver’s hottest spots. For those of you who are interested in meeting other INTERNeX clients and sitting down for a nice chat over a cool beer, we will be having a predrink at a PuB prior to heading out to the bar. The location of this PuB will be determined closer to the date. After a few drinks and perhaps some shots whoever is interested can join Tiffany and myself to a nightclub where we can drink some more and let out all of the stress from the week. For those of you are interested in signing up for this event please contact me. If we have enough people signing up then the event will be a huge success and hopefully we can get a discount…bonus!

Meet a New Staff Member

So it has been a few weeks since we had our last INTERNeX staff member introduction. Life here in the office has been pretty crazy and I’ve had a few bumps along the rode so i hope you enjoy one of the few remaining expose’s. This week you will gain a glimpse into Marien one of our lovely staff members who has a lot to offer to both INTERNeX and you…

What is your first name?
Marien

Where are you from?
Mexico City

What languages do you speak fluently other than English?
Spanish and I used to be fluent in Italian because I used to live there back in 1991-1992, but not anymore

What position do you hold at INTERNeX? And for how long have you been working here?
I am the program manager for hospitality and I have been working in/at INTERNeX for the past two years and a half

What made you want to become involved with INTERNeX in the first place?
Years ago I was working in an international programs office at one of the main private universities in Mexico City. I was primarily responsible for student placements within their field of study and INTERNeX was actually one of our partners and that is how I came to meet Tim.

In what ways do you think INTERNeX is unique from other international placement agencies? What does INTERNeX specifically offer that no other company can?
First and foremost our tailor made placements. In this process we are focusing primarily on the participants and their personal goals and from there we find a suitable position for them. Another important and unique aspect of our company is our international team and work environment. We are all highly committed to this companies missions and values and we appreciate the fact that even though we have a substantial amount of systems and procedures in place, we are granted a considerable amount of freedom in which we can truly flourish. Given this room for innovation INTERNeX can always be one step ahead

What changes within INTERNeX have you personally witnessed since you have joined the team?
The city placement program has grown and developed on an exponential level. And we now have INTERNeX New Zealand

Where would you like to see INTERNeX in the next 10 years? Do you have any New Year’s goals for the company?
As other staff members have mentioned previously, I too would like to see at least one INTERNeX office, both for in and outbound, in each continent all around the world. Now what I mean by in and out bound is that we will cater to both international clients wanting to come into Canada and Canadians interested in travelling/working abroad

Tell us one interesting thing about yourself that not a lot of people know?
As most of my candidates I took a gap year myself back in high school. I lived, worked and traveled in Europe for a year and a half. I studied English, worked as an au-pair and even as a cleaner so I can truly relate with all of the participants of our hospitality program.

Oh and another thing is that when I was young I wanted to be an Olympic gymnast. At age 6 I was already training 4 hrs a day, but then my family and I moved to a smaller city where there were no Olympic trainers so I unfortunately had to find a new dream.

If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be and why?
Well surprise surprise I have to say Vancouver. Coming from Mexico, which is a highly commercialized area with lots of, Vancouver just seems like this evergreen oasis in comparison. It is by far one of the most beautiful cities in the world and everyday I continue to be taken aback by all that is has to offer. But open to new cities and experiences.

If you have any more questions or queries about our programs please do not hesitate to contact us at the office:

INTERNeX PuB NiGHT

Ummm so snow in the forecast!? In the middle of march!? Can anyone say global warming lol. It’s strange how winter seems to becoming in so late i feel like i should be going into hibernation soon. I’m more of a summer girl so I’m not down with snow. But there is something to look forward too…1)INTERNeX PuB NiGHT at The Blarney Stone and 2) St. Paddy’s Day woohoo. So this annual festival celebrates Saint Patrick, one of the most commonly recognized of the patron of saints of Ireland. This event is generally celebrated on the 17th of March and even though it is widely celebrated world wide and is considered to be a national holiday of Ireland, we wont be getting a day off from work for this one. Too bad i know! But that doesn’t you have to miss out on the festivities. You can start the week off right by joining us at the Blarney Stone (216 Carrall Street, Gastown) where you can eat, drink and party like the Irish! Home to one of the biggest St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in the city, you can enjoy the festive joys of green beer, a full Irish menu and Irish dancers both day and night. So originally the color associated with St. Patrick was actually blue, not green. However, over the years the color green and its association with this day has grown so let’s do it like the Irish and at least wear one green item…but the more the better really! So gotta run but I really hope to see you all out next Monday night at 8pm at the Blarney Stone Irish PuB.
