Candidate Exposé – Mandy Janssen

My name is Mandy Janssen and I am a 21 year old student from The Netherlands. Currently I’m studying International Event Management at NHTV Breda in The Netherlands.

23897738_1537788619643137_1424592398_nI’ve always wanted to experience a new culture and Canada and the US have always interested me. For my study I got the chance to do a practicum at INTERNeX itself as a PR-Coordinator for 7 months, so I decided to just take the jump and do it. Our school has had a relationship with INTERNeX for a few years now, so I came into contact with INTERNeX via the database of NHTV. My practicum is part of my university program and what I have learned until now is certainly very helpful for my future career.

For this job you need to be very social and a fun and open person. You need to be understanding of people and situations, but you also need to have good communication skills. As part of the PR-Team I join almost every activity and I always like to hang out with the other candidates and to be surrounded by people who are in the same situation as I am. So far I went on the Rocky Mountains trip, went to Victoria, Whistler and soon also Seattle. We did an escape room, went to a game of the BC Lions and many more things. The Rocky Mountains trip is definitely the most memorable thing I did. The nature there is so beautiful and since it was 2 days after I arrived it was a great first impression.

I rent a room in a shared house. I found it with the help of INTERNeX. At the beginning I was a bit overwhelmed by the size and the amount of people in the city but after a while you get used to it and it starts to feel like your second home. The people are really nice here and the food is amazing. I had some personal challenges since it was the first time for me living on my own. So figuring out the financial part was bit of a challenge but it’s getting better.

MandyThe first thing I will do when I come home is hugging my friends and family, eat a lot of Dutch food that I have missed and go out to the club with my friends.

This trip definitely inspired me to travel more. In the beginning I was a bit scared to be by myself for so long but hopefully my next adventure will take me to Scotland or Ireland for my 4th year practicum.

I would recommend the services of INTERNeX to everybody. INTERNeX is not just a company, but it’s a family that looks out for each other and helps each other where necessary. INTERNeX helped me find new friends and feel at home here in Vancouver.

A new addition to the PR-Team!

To those of you wondering who the new girl was on the Salt Spring Island trip, hi! It was me! Some of you already got to know me a little, however, I will introduce myself to those who did not and those who would like to get to know me a little better.

My name is Angy. I am 19 years old and from The Netherlands, yes, the flat country known for its tulips and windmills. I do not want to ruin your vision of the country, but I can confirm you do not see those everywhere you go. Truth is, when you visit the Netherlands, you will most likely see rain. And bikes. Lots of bikes (we need something to keep us in shape, right?!). Time to get back on topic.

I am a third-year International Leisure Management student at NHTV Breda. The first semester of this school year I went on an exchange to London, so I already experienced what it is like to live abroad. However, I had never been outside of Europe. Going to North America has been a dream of mine since I was little (yes, this tall Dutchie was short too, once upon a time) and when I heard I could do my 6-month practicum in Vancouver, I was more than happy. Living and working here will be a challenge, one that I am excited to take!

I cannot wait to discover all that INTERNeX and Vancouver itself have to offer and I hope you want to be part of my journey!

I am looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow at PuBNiGHT at the Lamplighter!

A fresh breeze in the PR-Team

Who is that small girl sitting in the INTERNeX office? It is me, Kerstin. I am now joining Bart and Mandy as a member of the PR-Team. Some of you, I already met this weekend on the ice or in the Yale Saloon. For the rest, let me introduce myself.

kerstin

I am 22 years old and currently studying International Leisure Management in Breda, an awesome city in the Netherlands. This practicum at INTERNeX is part of my study program. And no, I am not Dutch – I am German, from a city called Aachen in the western part of Germany. I really do like the Dutchies, but I decided that it is time now for a new challenge here in Canada.

I enjoy making plans and organizing ahead, so I keep lists and notes for everything and I am happy whenever a plan is working out properly. Since I love the sea, mountains, but also busy cities, I think that Vancouver is the place to be for me. As a scout, I am prepared for the Canadian big city and wildlife. I can be enthusiastic about the smallest things and I am always in for new actions.

So, the PR-Team becomes international from now on. Until August, I will make sure that you can experience many fun activities with us here in Vancouver! I am already excited to ski, hike, party and play games with you!

I am looking forward to meeting all of you at our PuBNiGHT tomorrow. See you there!

Finally a guy joining the team!

2017-08-12 15.34.16When I was in the Rockies I already heard some people say: “I’ve never seen that guy before, but he looks so cool” and “Wow, who is that awesome dude in the back of the buss?” To most of you I already gave an answer to that question, but for the rest of you, I will help you out. Let me introduce myself.

My parents gave me the name Bart when I was born. I am a 22-year-old student from the Netherlands (yes, from the stroopwafels). Right now I am doing the study Leisure managent at the really cool city called Breda. For all of you considering going to the Netherlands, make sure you visit that city one day.

2017-08-13 11.12.48For my internship I chose to go far away from all the rain and snow back home, so I decided to do my internship abroad. When I was looking on the Internet I saw INTERNeX has a place for me to do my internship. I was really excited while reading all the things they do and I heard some great stories from Danielle. Fun fact: Danielle used to be my babysitter when I was a first-year student at college. So back to my story, I decided to go to the always-sunny Vancouver where it never rains. I was wrong about that part. However, I am really glad I can do my internship here.

2017-08-13 15.15.22

My first day at the office was a very hard day. First we talked about what we are going to do these weeks. Then it was time to buy a PlayStation 4 and grab a pizza. After that, Danielle and Tess came by to bring us some beers. The rest of the day we talked about the great things they have been through during their time here. You can imagine how tired I was after this long day at the office.

I am really excited to meet the rest of you who didn’t go to the Rockies. I am also really excited to speak to everybody again who did go to the Rockies, no worries 😉 Hope to see you all tonight at the PuB NiGHT!

Becoming a part of the new PR Team

20799859_1449831481772185_4738325276547896688_n

My name is Mandy Janssen and I will be joining the new PR team until the beginning of March. I will be helping to organize the PuB NiGHTS and the weekly and monthly events. I already met some of you lovely people during the amazing Rockies trip but for the people I haven’t met yet I will shortly introduce myself.

I am 21 years old and I am from a small city called Eindhoven in The Netherlands. I am studying International Event Management which is part of the Leisure program and for this study I will do a practicum here with INTERNeX in the beautiful city of Vancouver.

In my free time I love to hang out with friends at a bar or club, going to the cinema with them, go shopping or just grab something to eat in a nice restaurant.

One of my biggest passions in life is music, I have always been surrounded by music and I learned to play the keyboard and I follow singing classes as well. One thing that I also do in my free time is working as a first-aider at different events. So if any of you ever needs a first-aider during one of the events, I will be glad to help you.

I am looking forward to meeting all of you tonight at the PuB NiGHT!
