INTERNeX Canada: International House – Summer Party Gold Sponsor

INTERNeX is happy to introduce another one of our partners and gold sponsors for our Summer Party in August; International House!

International House was established in Cordova, Spain by two ambitious individuals in 1953 and has been offering high quality language programs to people from all over the world for over 50 years now. At the moment there are 150 schools worldwide in more than 50 countries. It has been home to thousands of INTERNeX candidates who have wanted to improve their English before going on to do their internship, hospitality, volunteer or ranch stay program.

Aside from offering high quality English courses, International House also offers their students language courses in over 30 other languages. They make sure that every student receives an education from highly qualified, professional teachers, fun, interactive lessons, individual help, great facilities, a safe, clean learning environment and value for money above all else.

Teachers are also given a very high standard of training in order to meet the necessary requirements and demands of the language courses. Interested teachers are given the option to take part in an online course or attend training at one of the training centers which are located all over the world. These training courses ensure that all instructors are current with trends and follow a system that offer proper support. Teachers can also benefit from the highly acclaimed internal teacher transfer program which allows them to gain work experience in a whole new environment.

Additionally, International House has written thousands of books on language training for the various different languages that they offer. Every year their directors hold a massive conference in London in order to discuss future developments and current improvements that could be made. This makes sure that this privately owned organization has the highest possible quality available to its teachers and students.

Would you like to start learning a new language or improve one? You can find an International House in Vancouver AND Whistler!

INTERNeX International Exchange is very grateful for International House’s support and we are looking forward to throwing an unforgettable summer party with them!

Cheers,

Lies

INTERNeX Canada: Exposé of the Week

Our star of the exposé of the week today is Melanie. She is from Germany and currently enjoys a very exciting 9-months trip in North America. She started off with a two-month internship in Vancouver in January and continued to Hawaii to take business English in a language school. Now she travels around BC and will start volunteering at a husky farm in July. Read what her experiences were in Vancouver and Canada!

Why did you choose to go to Canada?
I wanted to go abroad and have new experiences. I did not think about Canada specifically but it is an English speaking country and I have never been here before, so I decided to go.

What kind of internship did you do and what where your daily tasks?
I interned at a recruiting company that sends English language teachers abroad. My tasks were mainly administrative work and communication with our candidates. I welcomed new teachers who wanted to go abroad and helped them to prepare their documents for the program. I also worked with private language schools, particularly in South Korea.

Is your internship a part of your university program and is it useful for your career goals?
The internship was just for my own experience, it is not required for university. I think, it will be very useful for my resume. It is always good to have work practice and experience abroad.

What was the best think about your internship?
The best thing was that I improved my English and got used to communication in a foreign language. For example, making telephone calls in English is a challenging thing at first. My colleagues were also very friendly and helpful; it was fun working with them.

What do you like most about Canada and Vancouver?
The best thing for me about Canada is the beautiful nature. Vancouver is so nice because it is close to both mountains and the ocean. And I like all the beautiful parks here in the city!

What trips did you do in your free time, were some organized by INTERNeX?
I have been to Seattle and Whistler and did many small trips such as Capilano Suspension Bridge or Stanley and Lighthouse Park. With INTERNeX I went to the Rockies, which was a very memorable trip! We had so much fun and I got to know a lot of nice people. I especially enjoyed the campfire we had, the Banff gondola and the Columbia Icefields! The nature is just stunning.

How did INTERNeX International Exchange help you organize your trip?
INTERNeX is a partner of the German organization I used to come to Canada. They helped me to find the internship and prepared me for interviews. My homestay was also organized by INTERNeX and I had a good time with the family. The help was is very useful in the first weeks abroad.

Would you recommend INTERNeX International Exchange?
Yes, I would. It is so much easier to adopt and find your way in a new country if you have help. I found it was very useful to have INTERNeX because it’s very difficult to find an internship on your own in a country you don’t know. INTERNeX also offers good possibilities to get to know people.

Thank you, Melanie, for sharing your international experience with us.

Cheers,

Xenia

Candidate Exposé

Meet Gudrun, a young mind from Germany who is ready to conquer anything Canada throws her way. I first met Gudrun at the INTERNeX office a few weeks ago, and then again at INTERNeX PuB NiGHT! We chatted for awhile about her internship and how she was enjoying her time spent in Canada. She was so interesting to talk to, I thought I would ask her to share more about her experiences so far.

Why did you decide to come to Canada?
Canada was my destination of choice as I decided I would like to spend time in an English speaking country and Vancouver has a reputation for being innovative and very keen on sports. I think living and working overseas is an important learning/life experience and in today’s global society, it is getting more and more important to gain a more international perspective.

How did you find out about INTERNeX?
INTERNeX is in collaboration with my German organization, which arranged everything for me.

What program are you currently participating in?
I’m doing an unpaid internship!

Do you like program offered by INTERNeX?
Yes, I think they offer many different kinds of options, so anybody will find the right program.

What do you enjoy about your job?
I enjoy learning a lot about the structure and work processes within the company. It’s great to have the opportunity to work unsupervised and to display initiative.

What skills do you use at work?
I use my computer skills along with my verbal and written English language skills.

What would you tell others about Canada as a country?
You have to experience Canada yourself, but I would recommend Canada to anybody. It seems to be a country with lots of international influences and many opportunities, regarding sports, culture, nature, shopping and sightseeing… and the Canadians are all very friendly and open-minded.

Can you sum up your experience in 10 words or less?
Vancouver is awesome, I’ve enjoyed every minute so far!

What kind of activities have you done since living in Canada?
There is still so much to do, but I’ve been to Seattle already, I also enjoyed Stanley Park and the Aquarium, Granville Island, The Capilano Suspension Bridge and of course some pubs in Downtown.

What are your plans for the future?
After my internship I want to travel first before I’m going back to Germany. Afterwards I will either apply for a new job or doing my PhD. I haven’t decided yet.

Not sure which program is for you? Visit http://www.internexcanada.com for more information on how INTERNeX can make your trip to Canada happen!

Hi from Houtan!

So you might be wondering who this fine young gentleman is?! Well this is Houtan and some of you  might not have met him before because has been out of the office for a little while. Currently, Houtan is working out of Toronto but will be back in the office in the next few months so here is a quick introduction to a new face (for some of you at least) and check out baby Nala in the picture…too cute!

What is your name?
Houtan

Where are you from?
Tehran, Iran

What languages do you speak fluently other than English?
Russian. I can also communicate in Ukrainian and Arabic and a bit of German, and of course Persian my mother tongue

What position do you hold at INTERNeX? and for how long?
Good question, I have no idea what one would call my position or anyone else’s position for that matter at INTERNeX International Exchange..funny thing is that part of our job is to try and envision what working in a Canadian company would be like to most people who are about to work within a Canadian organization through one of our programs. Yet we work in a company that demonstrates and represents a Canadian organization based on employees from different parts of the world who wear different hats on a daily basis to provide excellence in service. That is why I can’t really tell you what my position is. (does this make sense?) I think Im just blabbing on again, but hey that’s me!! Lol And I have been working at INTERNeX just over 2 years and they have been  full of excitement

What made you want to get involved with INTERNeX in the first place?
Like minded people, think alike…well, I’ve had quite a background in travelling from A to B (never enough though), learning about visas, after finishing up school and getting involved with Canadian Resorts and the hospitality industry, it all seemed like a good match with what INTERNeX had to offer, so there I was getting started and here I am still rocking it

In what ways do you think INTERNeX is unique from other international placement agencies? What does INTERNeX offer that no other company can?
Aside from the fact of how thorough our service is and its not even comparable to any other agency, it’s also that we don’t think our programs are for everyone. The participant needs to understand the purpose of the program before being forced to be a part of it. Our honesty in delivering the service is a key in managing expectations

What changes have you personally noticed within INTERNeX?
I have noticed a number of little programs come and go, but the city placement program was a great success and it still is both in Vancouver and recently in Toronto. We also now have more representatives abroad, an official office in New Zealand, and a more so active presence in Toronto, ON

Where would you like to see INTERNeX in the next 10 years? Do you have any New Year’s goals for the company?
I truly believe that the possibilities are endless. Obviously I, along with the rest of the team, would like to see a world wide network of services provided by INTERNeX offices across the world. Now the services provided by INTERNeX within the next 10 years is what I would like to see continue on its journey to completion and perfection so that one day we’d be a tool for anyone from anywhere in the world that would like to take a trip to any part of the world for the purpose of work experience and/or self development

Tell us one interesting thing about yourself that not a lot of people know?
As a kid I always wanted to become a vet

If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be and why?
It is really hard to answer this question, I love travelling and I don’t think I can settle anywhere for too long. I like what Toronto has to offer as a city, yet Vancouver’s geographical location is much more attractive than Toronto. On the other hand, Kiev Ukraine is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever lived in due to its historical background and remarkable architecture. But again, the grass is always greener on the other side, so we’ll keep on moving
