24 Hours of Winter – Experience IT Review

Saturday we went up at Grouse Mountain to experience a winter wonderland, where they celebrated their annual 24 hours of winter. In this weekend Grouse Mountain opened the slopes for 24 hours straight, so if you were up for it, you could go downhill the entire night. Besides skiing and snowboarding for as long as you wanted to, Grouse Mountain also organized other great activities and events. So if you were not a great skier, you could also rent snowshoes and hike on some beautiful trails they offer. Or if you are not a big fan of the snow, you were also able to hit the ice skating rink and show your moves on the ice while a DJ took care of playing some great hits. Besides these fun activities, you were also able to go snow sledding, doing a light walk, go ziplining, do a yoga session, and watch a junior hockey game and many other things!

lighttourMany choices, so decisions had to be made. Because I wanted to check out the slopes on Grouse, I went up a bit earlier to do some snowboarding. But later in the evening it became hard to see anything because of the heavy snowing and I decided to quit. So I parked my snowboard and met the rest of the group on the top of the mountain. After renting some snowshoes with one of us looking like a real pro, we started our journey on the light walk. We were totally amazed by all the lights, music and beautiful trails, we looked like real tourists making pictures of every single thing we saw. Unfortunately the trail came to an end after half an hour.

It was time for some food and drinks, while we were still amazed by all the beautiful things we saw earlier. And because it was still quite early in the evening, we decided to move ourselves to the bonfire besides the ice skating rink. Two of us got so inspired by all the people on the ice; they quickly rented some skates and gave it a try.

After some heating up at the bonfire again, the evening came to an end and we took the gondola downhill, where we got a beautiful view over the city. And that was the perfect way to end the evening with.

I am looking forward to see all of you again tomorrow at PuB NiGHT!

Super Bowl Party – Experience IT Review

Yesterday we watched the Super Bowl at The New Oxford. It was great seeing all of you there and to share this great experience with you. Thank you all for coming!

The New Oxford is a really cool bar in Yaletown. The atmosphere is great and the service is really good. There are also many specials on food and drinks in the pub. Every Monday you can get a Guinness for $5 dollars and on Tuesdays you can get a beer for only $2! Just as many other places, they also organise the wings Wednesday. Besides that, there is a lot of great food. For instance, try the curry wurst with fries for only $8 combined with one of their many beers.

A few hours before the game, we met at the pub, so that we could talk, drink and eat a bit beforehand. Then finally the match started and everybody immediately focussed on the screen. As the Super Bowl mostly takes place at night at our home cou16508702_10202686809887160_8909482734697171864_nntry, it was a new experience for many of us. We did not know what to expect and some of us did not even know the rules of the game. Luckily, the internet exists and once we looked it up, it was so much easier to watch the game.

Unfortunately, the game had a commercial break every 5 minutes. Therefore, it took so much longer to watch the game then it would have taken without the breaks. During the breaks, there was a comedian hosting the event. You could win many prices with a free coupon. Even though we were with many people and therefore had more chance to win, we did not win any prices. There were prices like $25 dollars off your bill, free beers for a year and a Playstation. Some of us wanted to watch the halftime show very badly and when the time was finally there, everybody was amazed by the flying Lady Gaga, the fireworks and all the lights used during the show. It grabbed our attention for sure.

At the beginning it looked quite obvious which team was going to win. However, the Patriots surprised us and made a huge comeback. It was the first time in 51 years that the Super Bowl was extended. It was amazing that they were able to win the game after all.

I hope the Super Bowl met all of your expectations and that you all enjoyed it! I am looking forward to seeing all of you at PuB NiGHT on Wednesday again!

Granville Island – Experience IT Review

On Sunday we went to check out what Granville Island has to offer! Unfortunately the weather wasn’t too great and it ended up raining for most of the afternoon, but thank you all for coming!16237737_1615329781815800_1946877102_n.jpg

Luckily the public market is indoors, so we could get some shelter there while checking out all the food you can get. They have fresh vegetables and fruits, meat, fish, cheese and loads of other things, but there is plenty to eat while you’re doing your shopping. This, in my opinion, is always really nice.

We started of getting ourselves some grilled cheese sandwiches and fries, which were really good. Then we ended up walking around the public market checking out all the food and did some grocery shopping as well. They offer some great vegetables and fruit for pretty good prices, so it’s definitely a place you should check out if you like to cook.

After that we walked around the island and checked out some cute boutiques that sell things like handcrafted jewellery and cool t-shirts. They also have a lot of places where people show off their art, which is nice to take a look at.

We had a fun day, but we definitely want to come back in the summer to see what the island looks like when it’s not raining!

Hope to see you all on PuB NiGHT this Wednesday at 131 Water!
