INTERNeX Canada: What to do on the weekend

Another crazy QuiZ Night is over and we plan the weekend again. After our night out at the Warehouse and much laughter due to our quiz, multiple choice, and grinding half naked waiters (!), we’re now looking forward to a relaxed beginning of the month of Halloween.

For everyone not used to this holiday, we planned a trip to the Stanley Park’s Ghost Train. It is a famous Halloween attraction and originally designed for kids. However, as a nice and fun introduction to the horror month, it’s exactly right to get in the mood for spook.

And then of course, it is the Thanksgiving weekend! On Monday we are having our Thanksgiving dinner at the Irish Heather and are looking forward to a traditional dish of North American turkey dinner. If you haven’t registered yet on Facebook, you might want to do it now, because the deadline is tonight. Well, hope to see you around…

INTERNeX Canada: How was your weekend?

An amazing PuB and CluB NiGHT and a walk through Vancouver, enjoying beautiful weather: That was our weekend. I hope you had a good one as well but let me sum ours up for everybody who had to miss out on it.

On Friday, a few INTERNeX clients who were persistent to finish their working week with a group of nice people and good music met up in The Cambie downtown and enjoyed a few drinks. Even though it was PuB and CluB NiGHT, we were actually more chatting away then being crazy on the dance floor, but I just go ahead and say it was still a very nice night out. The music was a mixture between rock and the newest charts and something I can frankly not categorize, but it was fun watch a few Vancouverites dance to it 😉 Take a look at our Facebook pictures to get an impression…

After granting everybody one day off to get over possible hangovers, a small group of interested people met up again on Sunday. The task of the day was to explore some of Vancouver’s neighborhoods by foot. Luckily, the weather was absolutely beautiful: Loads of sunshine and no rain whatsoever! So our brave little group set out to explore and we started at the Vancouver Public Library. For all of you who have not yet taken a look at it: It is an impressive building resembling the ancient Roman coliseum and was built in the 90s.

Moving on, we went through Yaletown, Vancouver’s former meatpacking district. Though it’s taken years for the neighborhood to really catch on, it is now a funky upscale district of furniture shops, restaurants, multimedia companies, “New York-style” lofts, and lots and lots of clubs.

Continuing our excursion we were reaching False Creek and took the tiny Aquabus to set over to Granville Island, which is not really an island. It contains a collection of shops, restaurants, theaters, artists’ workshops, housing, a hotel, and still-functioning heavy industry. Right at the top of the Aquabus dock is the entrance into the Granville Island Public Market. And guys believe me: This is paradise! Everything that is edible was probably there. Mountains of fruit and candy. Just take a look at our pictures, it was just amazing!

After a short lunch break, who can resist eating if surrounded by food, we continued our walk. Strolling down the Island Park Walk, we had the chance to enjoy Vancouver’s beautiful skyline in the sunlight. Passing the Burrard Bridge, the Maritime Museum, and a 30 m (98ft.) totem pole, we finally arrived at Kitsilano Beach. One of the many beaches of Vancouver, offering a lot of free recreational activities, like for example volleyball courts.

So a relaxed afternoon came to its end and we have one more time a lot of pictures to share with you.

See you all again soon,

Annika

INTERNeX Canada: Highlights of the week

What we did this week… as always it was amazing! The INTERNeX group went lost and found its way back again in Victoria. As you might remember we were stuck on an island last Sunday due to bad weather conditions. Once again, a moment that let us realize one of the many differences between Europe and Canada. Here, many things are still so much more dependent on the force of nature. But we made it!

Back in Van City we jumped into the planning of October: The month of Thanksgiving and Halloween. Are you already looking forward to a Thanksgiving dinner with your homestay family? Or are still looking for something to do? Remember that INTERNeX will offer you guys a Thanksgiving dinner, you just have to vote on the date. Besides the dinner plans, we also had our weekly smart saver again, and shared with you some details of our research concerning where to get cheap breakfast.

And for those of you who were frustrated by the fading sun and the seemingly ever present rain, we looked for some stuff to do indoors. One of us went to explore the depths of an enchanted store downtown, where everything becomes possible if you like books. And as a change to the office life, we had our PuB and CluB NiGHT on Friday. We went to The Cambie and to see how much fun we had there, you just need to take a look at Facebook on Monday. The pictures will tell you everything.

The only thing left to do for this week is to enjoy the walk through three of Vancouver’s neighborhoods this afternoon. If the weather continues to be as pleasant, it will be a very nice and relaxed way to discover parts of this beautiful city.

Hope you had a wonderful weekend and talk to you soon,

Annika

INTERNeX Canada: Thanksgiving

As already mentioned, October is the month of Canadian Thanksgiving. Right, different than in the U.S., but still a time to be thankful for all our loved ones, for a bit of free time, for all the luxury goods we are able to enjoy and last but not least,: For all the good and maybe unusual food.

This years Thanksgiving is on Monday October 14th, so it will be a long weekend to enjoy the fall weather. Many of you might have the possibility to join you homestay family for this special day. However, a few of you might not be quite as lucky. That is why INTERNeX will offer a Thanksgiving dinner for you!

Downtown Vancouver is The Irish Heather. They have a project called the Long Table Series. And this is what we are going to try out. Either on Sunday the 13th or directly on Monday the 14th of October, we will go there as a group, sit together at a really long table with other people and have a nice dinner. It is a very social spirit, to come together to a meal with strangers and spend a lovely evening socializing. It is the Thanksgiving spirit.

Right now, you still have the possibility to chose, whether you would rather go on Sunday or on Monday. Just message Annika via Facebook and give a vote concerning which day suits you best. According to that, we will make reservations and let you all know. Please think about it, check out the website of the PUB to get an idea, which dinner is more of your taste and get back to me as quick as possible.

Best,

Annika
