Expose of the Week

Hi everyone,

This week Janina is the Expose of the Week! Upcoming Saturday Janina is going back to Germany after 9 weeks living in the INTERNeX Staffhouse and doing an internship here in Vancouver! Today I visited the office of Janina in a chocolate factory. It was great to see her so enthusiastic about the company. I even got a tour through the chocolate factory!

Where are you from?
I am from Freiburg in Germany, but I study in Villingen-Schwenningen.

Why are you in Canada?
I am here in Canada to do an internship for my study. I study Business Administration- management in industries, for this study I can combine work with study. Every three months I change from work to study. The company where I work for gave me the change to do an internship abroad.

Why did you choose Canada?
It happened by change. I wanted to go to Australia but my university works together with INERNeX. It was a last minute decision for me to go abroad, so therefore was easier to go to Canada!

What do you like most about Vancouver?
Vancouver has everything! Beaches, the sea, and mountains! Furthermore the people here are very friendly!

How did you find INTERNeX International Exchange?
My University

How did you like your internship?
I like it a lot, because the internship is really related to my study. Furthermore I am working on my own project, which means responsibility. The team is very nice! My colleagues helped me very well in the beginning, and if I have any questions they are always willing to help me.

What kind of tasks are you responsible for on daily basis?
I am working in the purchasing department, this means that I am in contact with the suppliers, I am responsible for creating purchasing orders, setting up new item codes, getting quotes from suppliers. Furthermore I helped the quality department, the most important was to taste the chocolate. Another task was to assist the production-supervisor with the new employees. I showed the new employees around and I did the administration.

Is it related to the study you are doing back home?
Yes this is really related to my study, because I got the change to work in a manufacturing company.

Where have you been in and around Vancouver?
I have been to nearly all the beaches and parks in Vancouver. I especially like Stanley Park. I also went to Whistler, where I did horseback riding and the peak to peak gondola. Furthermore I went to Seattle for shopping and sightseeing, rafting in the Chilliwack River, and I went to the light house park in North Vancouver.

What is the most memorable thing you did in Canada?
Rafting! It was really amazing! It is an activity which I cannot do at home. At the beginning we were very scary, but at the end it was a lot of fun. We even jumped from a cliff! It was an awesome experience!

What is the first thing you will do when you return back home?
I will see my boyfriend again. He is picking me up from the airport! And I will go to the supermarket and buy all the things that I cannot buy/ or are very expensive here in Vancouver, such as cheese and bread. And I can enjoy my own apartment again!

What was the best thing about your Internship/your stay in Canada?
That I can eat a lot of chocolate during my internship J. And I liked it that I met a lot of people from different countries in the Staffhouse!

What was the worst thing about your Internship/stay in Canada?
The first time that I was crossed East Hastings. I regretted it immediately that I did not listen to what INTERNeX told me, namely try to not cross East Hastings.
And I also do not like to wait for bus number 10! Haha sometimes I have to wait for more than 40 minutes and if the bus is there are 3 or even more busses number 10 in a row!

Would you recommend INTERNeX International Exchange?
Yes I would recommend INTERNeX, because I really got an internship that I wanted to have

Janina, thank you very much for being the ‘Expose of the Week’  I hope you will enjoy your last days in Vancouver! And I wish you good flight back home!

Cheers, Lydia

Awesome PubNight @ The Cambie

Thanks for everyone for coming out to our PuBNiGHT yesterday. Even despite the fact that there was the fireworks festival yesterday we had several people came out and had a great time!

Like usual we played game so that someone could win an amazing prize. This week we gave out a $20 giftcard for the Rocky Mountains Chocolate Factory. In order to win the prize everyone had to play a game of memory.

We made our own version of this popular game. The objective was to get as much cards as possible together that complimented each other. For instance, there was a Brad Pitt card and a Angelina Jolie card; A Cow card and a Milk bottle card; etc. The person with the most cards won.

Everyone really enjoyed the game and there were some real fanatics in their! In the end it was Kristina who won the game, not a bad for someone that has just been in Vancouver for about a week!

Next week’s PuBNiGHT’s is at the Blarney Stone and I hope to see everyone there!

Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory

Even the name sounds delicious. This store is amazing… but if you have a history of cavities or an upcoming dentist appointment – stay away from this place! Why? See for yourself.

This place could be your worst nightmare or your heaven on earth. If you’re like me… somedays it may be deadly to walk in here! I can be quite an impulsive shopper on an empty stomach. When I visited this store the other day, I walked out with an Apple Pie Caramel apple. It was absolutely divine! Everyone should visit this store while in Vancouver! They do have shops in other cities, but come on! Just look at all the goodies!

Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory is an international franchisor, confectionery manufacturer and retail operator in the United States, Canada and the United Arab Emirates. The Company is based in the charming old-west town of Durango located on the western slope of the Rocky Mountains in southwestern Colorado. From its 53,000 square foot factory, the Company manufactures an extensive line of premium chocolate candies and other confectionery products to supply its many franchise locations, delivered fresh by its fleet of refrigerated trucks.

The factory typically produces approximately 300 chocolate candies and other confectionery products, using proprietary recipes developed primarily by its master candy maker. These products include many varieties of clusters, caramels, creams, meltaways, truffles and molded chocolates. Individual stores prepare a variety of caramel and candy apples, fudge, chocolate items and confections in full view of the customer using traditional cooking utensils such as copper kettles on gas-fired stoves and marble slab cooling tables.

Neat huh? I’ll leave you with a few more pictures. If you would like to visit their website, click here! The location I visited was at 1017 Robson Street. They even had cute little piggy candy apples. They also serve fudge, ice cream and truffles. If you’re good you’ll show up just in time for samples 😉 …

That’s all for now guys! Gotta jet, I’m hungry…
