What to do on the weekend

It is Friday and it is only a few hours till you can get outside and start your weekend. There is a lot going on in Vancouver this weekend, so if you don’t have any plans yet, you can use this blogpost for some inspiration.

Today the INTERNeX gang is going to start their journey to the Rockies. During this trip we will visit some really beautiful lakes and places. However, if you do not join us at the Rockies, then there are still a lot of things you can do.

This Saturday is special, as you could get the chance to watch the Perseids Meteor Shower. This is one of the most popular meteor showers, as you can see between 150 – 200 meteors an hour. The peak of the meteor shower was on Thursday and will be on Saturday morning approximately between midnight and 3 AM. Try to find a place where there are no clouds and not too many lights to be able to catch a glimpse of this amazing happening. If you do not have time to watch it on Saturday, you are still able to see them on days before and after, but not as many as during the peak.

19105975_10209195261219595_4886294145526156925_nBesides this there are also quite some festivals and events happening in Vancouver this weekend. On Saturday the TD Vancouver Chinatown Festival starts, which is a 2-day cultural festival taking place in Chinatown. You could also go to the Richmond Maritime Festival. This is a free 2-day festival that takes place at the Britannia Shipyard in Steveston Village.

If you are more into art, you could go to the art market at Napier Greenway which takes place on Sunday. While wandering around the market, you can enjoy the live music. If you are really into shopping, then you should definitely go to the Summer Swap event at Burnaby Central Secondary. The entrance fee is $10 and besides that you also need to take 10 good-quality clothing items to donate. In return you can take unlimited clothes home with you.

I hope you are having a great weekend and hope to see you at either the Rockies trip or next week’s PuB NiGHT!

Impossible to stay at home, not? Well, start to preparing your shorts and sunglasses because we have a lot of plans for you!

Vancouver International Burlesque Festival

Do you like burlesque? I think Vancouverites love it, judging by the strange customs that the people use to wear during a typical Monday at 14:00 in the middle of Grandville St.

The burlesque, a kind of cabaret or variety show, nowadays, has emerged from the pubs in the suburbs to become a very famous fashion due to celebrities like Dita Von Teese. If you would like to attend it, you can buy the tickets in the following link.

  • When: May 2-4, 2013
  • Where: Depends on the day. Check the website for more info (click on 2013 schedule).

Visit the Contemporary Art Gallery (CAG)

If a large number of semi-naked woman are too much for you, here you have a more relaxing plan: visit one of the most important art galleries in Vancouver. The CAG it’s a free space with international recognition, which advocates for news talents and the public access to art. One of the most awesome exhibitions is As It Comes for the Canadian artist Raymond Boisjoly. The title of this exhibition is the title of the one of his pieces too, which appears at the Yaletown-Roundhouse Station as you can see at the picture below.

  • When: Tuesday to Sunday 12 – 6 pm, FREE.
  • Where: 555 Nelson Street, Vancouver, British Columbia MAP.

What to do on the weekend?

Hi all!

There are plenty of things to do this weekend! June is packed with free festivals. Check this out!

VANCOUVER

Dragon Boat Festival
One of the biggest free festivals—attracting over 100,000 people—is the Rio Tinto Alcan Dragon Boat Festival, happening June 11 – 12, 2011.

Now in its 23rd year, the Vancouver Dragon Boat Festival is a two-day event centred around the dragon boat races. Over 180 teams compete in races that take place in False Creek and finish at Science World, where the Festival’s free entertainment happens. From Science World, you can watch the races, enjoy non-stop live music and entertainment on the World Beat Stage, and grab great festival food at the many vendors on-site.
The Dragon Boat races are an annual tradition for many Vancouverites, who train for the races with work colleagues, friends and family. They also epitomize Vancouver’s multiculturalism, bringing together teams from across the Lower Mainland to participate in a sport—dragon boat racing—that originated in China over 2000 years ago.
