Pub Night Review: BEER PONG at the Cambie

Every Tuesday West Trek organizes a BEER PONG night hosted at the Cambie and planned by Francesca.

That night was just incredible! There was a lot going IMG_2221on and there were a lot more teams that signed in for this event than usually what basically
meant more games had to be played and moreover it was a longer and tougher road to the final. We teamed up with half of the legendary team Italia and we hoped to win the tournament. Our team had 5 players but there were others with 5 team members as well. Usually you are supposed to have only 4 participants in one group but because there were already so many teams it was okay.

The first game was really easy and quick. We had to play against a team with people from Korea who probably never played beer pong before. At least that’s what it seemed like. But you have to start playing at some point, right?
In the next rouIMG_2222nd we played against a German/Switzerland team. It slowly started to become more intense. Obviously they also participated for the first time. You could quickly recognize that because they were not aware of all the rules and that caused some troubles. But in the end we won that game as well.
And that’s how we reached the Semi final! And it soon became the most intense game of the night. It took 40 minutes and then Francesca decided to end our game. But we made it because our opponents still had 3 cups left and our team only one.

That meant we were in the final and had to play against a team of mostly Germans. It was a super thrilling game. In the end it came down to 1 cup vs. 2 cups and one of our opponents probably made the throw of his life. Two throws, two hits! We were devastated… IMG_2223
Both teams were surprised in the same way that’s why there was silence for maybe a fraction of a second. But the silence was immediately filled with cheering and yelling when they started to celebrated their triumph. Certainly it was hard for us to watch but we had more than enough opportunities to win the games before.
We had a lot fun last night! And although we hoped to win we had an awesome Pub Night without the victory on our site.

And always remember: The game starts when the match has finished!

What to do on the weekend?

It’s Friday what means that it is again time for our favourite time in the week, the weekend is coming up. Of course also this Friday we have a short overview about that, what you can do on this probably really sunny weekend in Vancouver.

Khatsahlano Street Party
The Khatsahlano Street Party is Vancouver’s biggest Music and Arts Festival completely for free on this Saturday! This festival offers you about 40 food trucks, 50 live bands and hundreds of merchants and vendors across 10 blocks (about 1 mile). For more information and the schedule just have a look here.
As you may know, we are going to this festival together as well. We will meet us at 12:30 pm at the Esso Gas Station at Burrad Street / W 4th Avenue. We will be happy to see you there!

Theatre Under the Stars
Theatre Under the Stars is located at one of the most beautiful places in Vancouver, this theatre is located in the Stanley Park. The summer shows are starting this Friday till the 23th of August. This year they perform the two musicals ‘Shrek’ and ‘Legally Blonde’, one musical a day starting at 8 pm. Complete Schedule.

Food Cart Fest
The Food Cart Fest is a perfect way for you to try every different kind of Vancouver’s street food. Try what ever you like at one of over 20 different food carts located at the Olympic Village every Sunday in the summer.  The entrance fee will be $2. If you like to go but you are not able to  go an Sunday’s or to the Olympic Village; the Food Cart Fest is also in Surrey on Saturday’s at the City Hall Plaza.

Beaches
The weather forecast for this weekend is making us very happy, it is supposed to be very warm in Vancouver, up to 27 degrees! So it will be perfect days for enjoying these days at one of Vancouver’s beautiful beaches. Mostly all of them are perfect for nearly everything you like: sports, just relaxing or tanning, swimming in the water or even a picnic at the beach. Vancouver has eight beaches which are directly at the open water: English Bay Beach, Jericho Beach, Kitsilano Beach, Locarno Beach, Second Beach, Spanish Banks Beach, Sunset Beach, Third Beach. We hope you enjoy the weather!

Soccer World Cup in Brazil
It is still world cup time! This weekend will be the last but also the most important and exciting weekend in the world cup! It time for the final on Sunday, 12 pm! Germany and Argentina will fight in the last match for the world cup trophy. Of course the INTERNeX PR-Crew is cheering for Germany, for which team are you cheering for? You should not miss the final, enjoy an exciting match and cheer for your favorite team. There are many spots where you can watch the final, it will be a great end of the world cup, even when you watch it in a city with so many nationalities like Vancouver.

We hope you will have a great and enjoyable weekend and may see you at the Khatsahlano Street Party or to watch the soccer world cup final on Sunday! Just have an amazing time while you are in Vancouver!

World cup FINAL @ Blarney Stone

The most exciting match of the world cup is coming up on sunday and of course we are watching the final together.

The game starts on sunday at 12pm. Germany will play against Argentina fighting for the world cup trophy. Both semi-finals were very exciting, in one way or another, and we can’t wait for the finals to start.

We will meet each other at 9am at the blarney stone, since they don’t take any reservations anymore and they will go on first come and first serve basis. We hope you will join us at 9am for a nice breakfast.

Please make sure to be on time since it will be hard to hold seats since many supports will come to cheer for Germany…or Argentina.

We hope to see you on Sunday and don’t forget to check out our event for Saturday.

PuB Night @ the Beach Review

Yesterday we had our PuB Night at the Sunset beach.

We met at 6pm, however some of us joined later. Since it wasn’t as hot as the days before it was really nice when we arrived there, but it got a little cold after the sun was down.

We watched the nice sunset and talked about different trips we are thinking to do and gave each other tips about a lot of activities in Vancouver. Of course we discussed as well where we want to go for the last soccer match on sunday. So for everybody who wants to watch the match, we are definitely going somewhere together, but since most of the pubs don’t do reservations on this big day or want to charge us a $10 entrance fee we are still looking for one where we might get in for free.

We had a great time, enjoying the sun after work and we hope that the weather will stay like this, so we can have a great summer and lots of outside activities in and around Vancouver.

INTERNeX Canada: How was your weekend?

And it’s Monday again! This weekend went really fast for me. Maybe because of the rain showers all days.. However, let’s talk about the weekend!

On Saturday we organised the Champions League Final in The Blarney Stone. Because of the time difference with Europe we had to watch around noon.
Despite the rain a lot of people turn up! We ordered some beers and some food. The match was played on the LARGEST SCREEN of Vancouver. Like a 7 meter HD wide screen!

So the match began and we’re all excited! It was a really intense game with a lot of changes for both sides. In the first half everybody was complaining about Arjen Robben.. He had a few good changes to shoot Bayern in front but he missed all of these! In the second half he made it all good. First a assist for the opening goal. After that a penalty for Dortmund followed so the match was 1-1. Till the end of the match everybody thought about a draw and extra time, penalties?

But, 88 min (no Bayern fan will ever forget this moment!) Arjen Robben passed the ball underneath the goalie of Dortmund and made himself the (Dutch) matchwinner!
The whole place was going crazy (except some Dortmund fans of course). We drank another beer for this victory and had a great afternoon!

Thank you for all the amazing people that turned up. I enjoyed every minute on Saturday. Hopefully you did the same! By the way. Sorry for the Dortmund fans. I’m writing this as a Bayern fan. 😉

Cheers

Jelle
