What to do on the weekend?

“You know it’s Friday when the weekend comes knocking at your front door.” (Anthony T.Hincks)  The week is nearly over and it is going to be weekend again. Soooo…….. it’s time again for some weekend activities!

15265492048_991d3d535c_zFriday evening Ellen DeGeneres is stopping in Vancouver for her show. The famous American comedian is going to entertain you the entire evening. So if you have some bucks to spend, then go to the Rodgers Arena and enjoy her show. Instead of laughing, you also can go to the BC Place and support the BC Lions against Edmonton Eskimos in the CFL. Maybe you prefer an alternative without spending so much money, then you should visit North Vancouvers Craft Beer week. This Friday is the start of the event. The week features beer specials, live music, brewery tours and people having fun at various venues throughout North Vancouver.

Halloween is coming soon, so it’s time to turn on the Halloween mode:

To start the Saturday you should check out Harvest Glow. It’s a new autumn-themed indoor attraction with pumpkins, sparkling lights and family-friendly things to see and do at Milner Village Garden Centre at 6690 216th Street in Langley.  Harvest Glow is only the warm up, afterwards there are a lot of other Halloween activities in and around Vancouver: Here re just a few 🙂

  • Lost Souls of Gastown – a guided walking tour with Forbidden Vancouver through the streets and alleys of historic Gastown.
  • VanDusen Glow in the Garden – lit-up carved pumpkins and Halloween activities at VanDusen Garden. In 2018 the family-friendly event is even bigger than last year and the theme is Hänsel and Gretel.
  • Mission Nightmare Haunted House – a popular community-run Halloween attraction in Mission with proceeds benefiting a local charity.
  • The Haunt of Edgemont– an amazing attraction at a family’s home in North Vancouver that’s open to the public by donation.

Something you definitely consider about is supporting the Canucks in the Rodgers Arena. They play against the Boston Bruins.

6264676541_e06eb26f91Scaaaaaaaary …Halloween is coming soon and everybody is preparing themselves for that. So you should do it too by using the Sunday !

So why not combining a visit of Fly over Canada and Halloween? At the moment a Halloween theme is taking place in this multi-dimensional theatre at Canada Place. So check it out!

Do you prefer more suspense? Then go to River’s Edge: Home for the Criminal Mind. It’s a haunted attraction at the Mission Raceway Park in Mission.

Maybe a breathtaking and blood freezing experience …

I hope you have a great weekend and maybe we will see us next week at the Steamworks. 🙂

What to do on the weekend?

Congratulations, you made it through the week! As a reward, you get two summer days in Vancouver. Do you have plans already? Here are some ideas on how to spend the upcoming days.

I will start off the weekend like real Canadians: with country music and line dancing. It is Cowgirl Friday in the Yale Saloon tonight. So ladies, until 11pm you do not have to pay any entrance fee! The line dancing lesson starts at 8pm. And don’t worry – everybody can join the fun, no matter if you’ve already done it before or not. A real cowboy shows the choreography and you can just copy his steps. Yes, a cowboy! So, guys, you are also more than welcome to join the lesson. It’s a lot of fun and definitely a must-do when in Canada!

7584508250_09d89bfff5_nOn Saturday, the INTERNeX crew is going to explore White Rock. This cozy town is located about an hour away in the south of Vancouver. We got plenty of time to take pictures in front of the actual white rock and discover the pier. White Rock is also a great place to walk along the promenade and to enjoy the sun at the beach. Meet us at 11am in front of the Vancouver City Centre Station, if you want to join this relaxed day.

Have you ever seen a sports match in Vancouver? Saturday is your chance to watch the game of the Vancouver Whitecaps FC vs. New York Red Bulls. Kick-off is at 4pm at the BC Place, the big stadium that you have probably already seen in downtown. There are still tickets available, check it out here. The ambiance in the stadium is different than in a European one, so buy your ticket and discover the Canadian way. Pretty cool Saturday afternoon for all football fans guaranteed!

Sundays are for relaxing! However, the weather is too good to stay in bed all day. So, grab a blanket and go to the VanDusen Botanical Garden. Together with you friends, you can enjoy a chamber concert in this beautiful setting. The ‘Social Sunday’ takes place from 4-6pm. You only have to pay the regular admission fee of $11.25 to visit the garden and enjoy the live music. Cocktails, snacks, music and sun – sounds like a perfect Sunday to me!

Whatever you are up to, enjoy your weekend! I hope to spend my last Saturday in Canada with many of you in White Rock.

Super Bowl Party – Experience IT Review

Yesterday we watched the Super Bowl at The New Oxford. It was great seeing all of you there and to share this great experience with you. Thank you all for coming!

The New Oxford is a really cool bar in Yaletown. The atmosphere is great and the service is really good. There are also many specials on food and drinks in the pub. Every Monday you can get a Guinness for $5 dollars and on Tuesdays you can get a beer for only $2! Just as many other places, they also organise the wings Wednesday. Besides that, there is a lot of great food. For instance, try the curry wurst with fries for only $8 combined with one of their many beers.

A few hours before the game, we met at the pub, so that we could talk, drink and eat a bit beforehand. Then finally the match started and everybody immediately focussed on the screen. As the Super Bowl mostly takes place at night at our home cou16508702_10202686809887160_8909482734697171864_nntry, it was a new experience for many of us. We did not know what to expect and some of us did not even know the rules of the game. Luckily, the internet exists and once we looked it up, it was so much easier to watch the game.

Unfortunately, the game had a commercial break every 5 minutes. Therefore, it took so much longer to watch the game then it would have taken without the breaks. During the breaks, there was a comedian hosting the event. You could win many prices with a free coupon. Even though we were with many people and therefore had more chance to win, we did not win any prices. There were prices like $25 dollars off your bill, free beers for a year and a Playstation. Some of us wanted to watch the halftime show very badly and when the time was finally there, everybody was amazed by the flying Lady Gaga, the fireworks and all the lights used during the show. It grabbed our attention for sure.

At the beginning it looked quite obvious which team was going to win. However, the Patriots surprised us and made a huge comeback. It was the first time in 51 years that the Super Bowl was extended. It was amazing that they were able to win the game after all.

I hope the Super Bowl met all of your expectations and that you all enjoyed it! I am looking forward to seeing all of you at PuB NiGHT on Wednesday again!

What to do on the weekend

The weekend is finally here again and it’s time get out of the office to enjoy all of the cool events, activities and much more that Vancouver has to offer. Have a look at these suggestions.

Friday

If you’re up for some alternative music you should definitely check out the Accordion Noir Festival. This festival celebrates a wonderful instrument: the accordion. This means that for every concert there’ll always be an accordion. Even if you’re not so much in to this instrument it’s worth checking out a least one concert. Who knows, all of you stereotypical views of the accordion might completely change after a great concert. Click here for more information on the Accordion Noir festival.

Saturday

If you really want to get around downtown Vancouver you can choose to hike Vancouver Seawall. Vancouver Seawall is a road specifically designed for cyclists and pedestrians, and it stretches all the way around downtown Vancouver, Stanley Park and even reaches Kitsilano beach park. You can go for a run, take your bike or just walk around this beautiful stretch, where you can also enjoy Vancouver Harbour and English Bay. There’s a lot of attractions and great places to go all the way around the Seawall, so you can always take a little break from your hike and do something completely different. You can get more information about Vancouver Seawall here.

Sunday

After a good run at the Vancouver Seawall, maybe you want to relax a bit but still enjoy looking at sports. No need to worry… Vancouver has all the sports venues, matches and events you need to get entertained. The hockey season hasn’t started yet but for sure you’ll still have the opportunity to get entertained watching Vancouver’s football team (BC Lions), baseball team (Vancouver Canadians) or soccer (Vancouver Whitecaps). Click here for more information.

Have a joyful weekend!

PuB NiGHT Review

What a great “Pub NiGHT”! We decided to chance the PuB NiGHT from a Pub to outside to enjoy the beautiful weather here in Vancouver. We went to the Sunset beach which is located in the mouth of False Creek. We met around 5pm and found a nice spot next to the water. Some of us played a lot of Volleyball and also Football and Soccer and the other just relaxed at the beach. After a while we changed the spot so we had a better view to watch the amazing sunset there and we were also lucky enough to see a sea otter who eat a fish in the water.

After the beautiful sunset we went out in a PuB called Marine Bar & Grill where we had some drinks and ended the night there.

If you want to see more pictures, please click here.

We hope you enjoined the “PuB NiGHT” at the beach as we did 🙂

PS: the next PuB NiGHT will be on Tuesday the 6th of May @ the Metropole
