Vancouver Riptide – Experience IT review

On Saturday INTERNeX went to Swangard stadium to watch an Ultimate Frisbee game. Because it was a rainy day and just after the big Rockies trip unfortunately not many people showed up, but we still had a fantastic time!

We watched the big home game opener of the Vancouver Riptide agairiptide4nst the Seattle Cascades. It was an entirely new sport for us to watch in a stadium, but after a quick explanation of some rules we were good to go. The game started rainy and slippery but the players were unstoppable. We were so amazed on how fast they ran and how quickly the game is moving.

So the purpose of Ultimate is to score in the opposing team’ s end zone to earn a point. Also a player cannot run with the disc, so once you catch it you have to stand still and throw the disc to ariptide3nother player to move it to the end zone. Once a player is standing in the opposing team’ s end zone and catches the Frisbee you get the point. Ultimate is a non-contact sport, which means once a player catches the Frisbee you can’ t just grab it out of there hands. The player actually gets a few seconds to throw the disc to another teammate.

So because of the few seconds you get to throw the disc again, the game moved very fast and lots of points where earned. Unfortunately the Vancouver Riptides didn’t win but it was a close call. We would definitely like to go again!

What to do at the weekend

Finally weekend again and time to visit some more amazing places, that Vancouver has to offer. Here are some suggestions for you.

Friday

On Friday evening the Italian Night Market offers you the opportunity to have a look at some Italian focused demonstration, such as Olive Oil Tastings and Pasta Making. You can visit the Market every third Friday of the month from 3-7 pm. They have a great selection of foods, craft and entertainment. The market will be placed  at Il Centro Italian Cultural Centre on East 12th Ave & Slocan near Renfrew Sky Train station. If you’re tired of all the sushi here in Vancouver, go and eat some Italian food at Italian Night Market.

Saturday

On Saturday you should join INTERNeX for the visit to Queen Elizabeth Park. The park is one of the highlights of any visit to Vancouver. You’re able to catch amazing views over the city, just relax or play Frisbee and other fun games.Sign up for this event here.
So let’s go out and enjoy the sun while it’s still here.

Sunday

A second highlight, you shouldn’t miss, is Bowen Island. It’s just a 20-minute ferry ride from the Horseshoe Bay Terminal in West Vancouver. The ticket for the ferry is $11,65. You’re probably able to see some seals during the ride. On Bowen Island there are many opportunities to go hiking or biking. Make sure that you’ll hike up to the Dorman Point. It’s just a 2.5 km hike and takes about 1.5 hours. The Dorman Point offers nice views of Whytecliffe Park in West Vancouver and the University of British Columbia( UBC). If you don’t like hiking, you’re also able just to relax at the very nice beaches on Bowen Island.
Go and visit Bowen Island to enjoy the last rays of the sun.

We wish you a sunny and enjoyable weekend.

Visit to Queen Elizabeth Park

This Saturday, September 20th, we’re going to visit the Queen Elizabeth Park. The Park is placed at the geographical center of Vancouver. Since the Queen Elizabeth Park is the highest point in Vancouver you can catch amazing views over the city. And of course the park has many beautiful gardens to walk through and enjoy. Some of the larger trees are about 60 years old. The coast redwood can grow to be one of the tallest trees of the world.

You’re able to do different activities there. So you can play Pitch& Putt, Tennis, Golf, Roller hockey, basketball, disc golf and lawn bowling. For sure it’s also fun just to watch other people playing, to relax and hopefully to enjoy the sun.
If there is anybody of you, who has a Frisbee, please take it with you, so we’re able to play Frisbee on the free Frisbee area. This would be a lot of fun.

If we’re getting hungry, we have the opportunity to have a picnic or to visit the Park Restaurant, which serves great food with an amazing view.

The Queen Elizabeth Park is sure to be one of the highlights of any visit to Vancouver.

The Park is near Oakridge-41st station on the Canada Line.
We’ll meet at the entrance along West 37th Avenue between Columbia and Mackie streets at 4 pm. Click here to get the way from the station to the entrance.
Join the event here.

So let’s meet up for a fun day at the Queen Elizabeth Park.

PuB NiGHT Announcement

It’s Wednesday again and that means it’s time for another great PuB NiGHT. As we are really lucky right now with this amazing weather we decided to have another OUTDOOR PuB NiGHT @ the Sunset beach. We will be there around 4pm (so straight after work) and we hope you will join us at any time you want. We will meet at the same spot as last time where we watched the sunset.

We will stay at the beach to watch the sunset and we can go afterwards of course in a pub for some beers. The Sunset beach is located in the mouth of False Creek. It is the best if you take the bus number 22 from West Pender corner Seymour or Granville Street and hop off the bus the last stop before the Burrard bridge and than just walk down to the beach. So bring your towel and some food to your work and join us afterwards at the beach.

We will take a volleyball, a Frisbee and some playing cards with us 🙂

If you can’t find us or have any questions about how to get there, just give as a call or message us: 6043680816

We hope we will see you all for this great OUTDOOR PuB NiGHT this Wednesday 🙂

Picnic at the Beach review

On Saturday we had a nice small picnic at the beach. It was a lovely sunny day in Vancouver and the city turned it to a beautiful place with crowded beaches and sports everywhere.

We met at the boathouse in Kitsilano and from there we looked for a nice spot on the beach. Once we found we we unpacked all our blankets and started our tanning session. ATTENTION: do not forget to get yourself some sunscreen! The sun is very strong in Canada. We had crackers, chips, strawberries, bananas and many more for picnic. Even some went for a short swim between our tanning sessions.

After the picnic it was time to do some sport, there was a volleyball tournament going on, but once it was finished we could play some volleyball or Frisbee. The warm weather stayed till late in the afternoon and so we left to beach to get some dinner and came back to the park to eat. We finished our day at the beach at around 8pm.

We hope you all enjoyed the nice weekend and we hope to see you at the pub-beach-night this wednesday. Tomorrow we will give you more information about the place and time!

Enjoy the warm weather!

How was your weekend?

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a great weekend! I started the weekend with a relaxed evening and I went to the gym really early on Saturday morning. After that I was ready for the Staff-a-licious Spring Party! People living in the Staffhouse decided to celebrate the upcoming nice weather and wanted to get together with all their friends. The party started already at 1 pm with some activities at a park nearby the staffhouse. We played soccer, baseball & frisbee. At around 4 pm we decided to go back to the house, take a shower and lit the barbecue!

Little by little more people showed up, it was fun having a barbecue with so many people! After the barbecue the sun went down, everybody went inside and there was a real house party going on! Sunday was for me a relaxing day with, of course, a house cleaning.

What did you do this weekend? Let me know by leaving a comment. Maybe we can share some great places to go to, fun activities to do and so on!

Cheers,

Elvera

English Bay

Coming from a little town in Ontario, I’m still getting used to the amount of activities available in British Columbia.  Where I lived, downtown consisted of a gas station, one grocery store and an arena. I absolutely love that everything is at your doorstep here in Vancouver!

On Friday, I went out to the Blarney Stone in Gas Town, where people danced the night away to Irish music and enjoyed the company of good friends. I had a really good night there and think I’ll go back soon!

Not wanting to waste a minute, I woke up Saturday morning and hustled downtown. The shops on Robson Street were whispering to me… “Look at the nice shoes I have,” …”Come in, you need some new clothes Laura.” Needless to say, I  ended up with many shopping bags in my hand by noon that day!

Sunday I went to the Vancouver Lookout with Jan, who found an internship through INTERNeX and just flew in from Germany. I think he will like Vancouver a lot! After taking the bus home, around 6 p.m I had dinner. However,  I still wasn’t ready to let the weekend end.

I had always heard that English Bay was a nice place to watch the sunset, so off I went! I arrived around 8:20 p.m., where many other people had also gathered to take in the view. English Bay is the downtown core’s most populated beach – attractive to people of all ages. If you haven’t been there yet, I suggest you go! Bring a friend and a frisbee, there’s lots of space to run around.

Here are a few pictures I took, beautiful isn’t it?

Hope you get the chance to see the sunset at English Bay. If you’re an early riser, I’m sure the sunrise is just as beautiful!

Bye for now,

Laura
