 “Bicycles, skateboards, rollerskates, self propelled couches, and any other form of human powered locomotion are all welcome! Bring your friends and families, bring costumes, noisemakers and signs.” This is Critical Mass!

Friday, bless Friday! Everybody has to be happy today, the weekend start in a few hours. Do you have plans for today?  Maybe, you would like to attend to the Critical Mass.

The last Friday of every month; with rain, snow or sunshine, a large amount of people gathering in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery. The main purpose of the event is to demand a public space to ride (for cyclists, long boarders, bmx-er…), celebrate non-polluting forms of transportation and have fun! Half-protest and half-flashmob, started in Sweden in the 70s and was adopted by the Vancouverites in 1998.

Everybody is invited to ride together and create car-free space. There isn’t a prearranged way; this is decided collectively while the event is taking place, like the length of the ride. This happens thanks to the “corkers”, the people who block traffic and let the mass through.

Normally, the mass goes to Granville Street Bridge, then to Burrard Bridge and Lions Gate Bridge. When all the people have arrived at the middle of the bridge, they start to celebrate, raise up their bikes, and shout loudly. After that, the bunch moves on to the next bridge. Sounds really fun, isn’t it?

Vancouver Art Gallery!

Hello hello cultural interested folks.

The next day’s weather conditions will give you a good opportunity to see more of Vancouver’s Indoor attractions.

The Vancouver Art Gallery presents ever-changing world-class exhibitions, from historic masters to today’s most internationally acclaimed contemporary artists.
The building also hosts collections of paintings from the beloved British Columbia artist Emily Carr.
Thus in case you are interested in Canadian culture, the art Gallery is worth checking out.

Science World After Dark!

Too busy being a grown-up during the day to come play at Science World? In between work and internships it can be hard to find something fun to do! Well not this Friday! Head over to Science world for their spectacular after dark event!
This month they’re going old-school to bring you some favourite retro activities.

• Show off your retro-videogaming skills in the Science Theatre. Choose games from N64 and Dream Cast or the ever popular Pac-Man.
• Velcro suit up and fling yourself against a giant Velcro wall.
• Challenge other guests to Extreme Twister – the game floor will be literally twisting on the spinning platform in the Eureka! Gallery.

Between games, adventure through our galleries, all of which will be open for the evening!

Prizes will be awarded to guests dressed in the best retro costumes circa 1970s’ and 80s’ in both individual and team categories. So strap on your bellbottoms and get ready to play! Beer and wine will be sold.

East is East

I am totally about trying new things and with the summer coming up Vancouver has endless opportunities, more than i think could possibly fit it anyone’s schedule. I love the fact that Laura pushed herself to try something new, and sushi too! I know plenty of people who have never eaten sushi before because they are terrified of eating RAW fish, and most of the time they stand firm in their beliefs that they’ll just hate it! But you never know….if there is anywhere to try sushi, Vancouver is the place to do it!

As most of you are aware of i am all about FOOD (*hint since a lot of my blogs have been about new restaurants i’ve frequented) and i want to let you guys know about all of Vancouver’s hidden gems that unless you’re a local you might miss out on. Since i am a student and am currently unemployed lol i need to find cheap options that wont break the bank but are also delicious and healthy. So i want to introduce to you all…EAST IS EAST!

This small restaurant has two locations; 1) East Is East on Main Street @ 4413 Main Street (Main and 28th), 2) Chai Gallery-East Is East & Silk n’ Spice @ 3239 W. Broadway. Known around the city for its amazing roti wraps, unique drink options (fruit smoothies, eastern shakes and boasting the best Chai in the city!) and just a calming aura, this hot spot will offer you with a unique experience that is rarely found around the city.

After being introduced to East Is East 7 years ago, i have become a dedicated weekly customer. When i first walked through the dimly lit doorway i was hesitant, what was this Indian/Afghan food?! Never heard of it before, never tried it before, wasn’t even sure what would be presented to me on the plate! But trust me i was not disappointed…everything i saw on the menu seemed to catch my fancy, so i made it my vow to try just about everything on the menu.

Whether its the summer of the winter, i’m there to enjoy their hand crafted benches and tables out front when the sun is shining, otherwise ill head in through the doorway and take cover in their carpet draped dining area for those wet days we see so often out here.
