Review: Trip to the Rockies – Part 1

We’re back from our great tip to the Rockies. And what an extraordinary experience it was! Amazing how much you can experience in just four days. For this reason we have found it necessary to divide this blog post into several parts.

We headed off for our adventure with our tour bus Friday, August 8, at 12:15pm. For our bus ride who gave us interesting information about the different sights that we were passing along the way. Our first stop was in Kamloops where we had a bit of time to buy some food before the arrival to Revelstoke, which was our final destination for the first day. In Revelstoke we checked in at our hotel for the night. Unfortunately bad weather conditions had caused that a couple of rooms were without electricity for some time, and there were no lights along the corridors in the hotel. Fortunately the light bulbs were replaced by candle lights in order to guide us to the different rooms. Actually this also added a bit of a cozy atmosphere to the hotel.

After having found our rooms, we headed downstairs to the hotel bar. Here we had the opportunity to get to know each other better. Some were sitting having a chat while others played pool. It was a great night but since we had a long day ahead of us and we had to get up early, most of us didn’t stay up for too long.

The next day, Saturday, the daylight uncovered the astonishing surroundings in which our hotel was situated. However, the scenery was to get even better. We started our bus drive at 7:45am. our next destination would be Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. While approaching the Rockies our guide told us that the views would change from very good to amazing. And this was certainly true. When entering the Rockies it was almost impossible to not constantly look at the natural wonders that were passing us by. Massive mountains and beautiful lakes were to be spotted everywhere. Sometimes we could also spot some of the wildlife living in the area.

Before arrival to Lake Louise and Moraine Lake we had a stopover. However, we didn’t just stop in order to stretch our legs. As you can see on the picture, We got the chance to get extra close to the wildlife of the area. The cute creatures in the picture definitely weren’t afraid of getting up close to humans, and this was to everybody’s amusement. After this stop we headed to Lake Moraine. At Lake Moraine we got some time to walk around and take pictures of the beautiful scenery before moving on to the even more impressive Lake Louise.

At lake Louise we also had some time to get some food and just walk around. The greatness of the lake is difficult to describe just in words. Just take a look at the picture… it is truly beautiful! The lake gets its turquoise colour from a glacier. Every time the glacier moves it tears off tiny bits of the rock. This rock flour goes into the lake where the turquoise colour is reflected by the sunlight.

Be on the lookout for the next part for the review of our Rockies trip.

Rockies Trip Spring Review II

The second morning was another early morning, we had breakfast at 7:45 and hat to be in the bus at 8:15. Too bad for our German boyband that they were just seconds too late, lucky for us that we did not have to sing. No worries the boyband did a great job in singing “Mamor Stein und Eisen bricht” and got some back up from the other Germans in the bus.

Our first stop of the day was at Mount Robson, the highest point in the Rockies and the second highest peak in British Columbia. We were luckily to see the top of the mountain for a couple of minutes before it disappeared in the clouds again. We shot some nice pictures and headed towards Jasper for a lunch break.

Jasper is a nice town, which get really crowed in the summer because it is so close to all the outdoor activities. Some of us stopped in the grocery store to get some food, others went into to a restaurant or walked down to Subway. After a short break and enjoying the sunshine it was time to get into to bus again and drive to our next stop.

The next stop was at the Athabasca Falls. This waterfall is not known because of its heights, but it is known for its force du to the large quantity of water falling into the gorge. It was a stunning view, especially the color of the water was very picturesque. After walking around the fall and seeing it form all different point we had to get back to the bus to drive to the Columbia Icefield.

The Columbia Icefield is one of the largest accumulations of ice and snow south of the Arctic Circle. We drove in a snow coach, which is especially made for this and there are only 24 of those buses, up to a snow field were the wind was blowing crazy and it was freezing could and of course we all were again prepared super good with or sneaker and thin jackets on! It was a great experience, but I think everybody was happy when we were back in the bus again.

Our next stops were at the Waterfowl Lake and Bow Lake before we ended our day in Banff. In Banff we stayed at the Mt. Royal Hotel and some of us went out for dinner, pizza, McDonalds, Steaks and Ribs were on the menu. Afterwards we went out to a pub for some pre-drinks before we headed out to the Night Club for some crazy dancing.

What was your favorite part of the second day?

INTERNeX Canada: How was your weekend?

Hey there,

A new workweek has arrived! That means the weekend is over..
But before we start let’s look back at this wonderful sunny weekend.

We did several things this weekend. Clara and Mercedes went with some of our clients on Saturday to the Khatsahlano Festival, in Kitisiliano.

First we went to Downtown to drink and eat something in Downtown. The weather was so cool, we went to a terrace. About 4 pm we went to the festival by bus. It was crowded, a lot of stands with food, and things to buy!

  • The festival was along the 4th avenue, between Burrard and McDonsald Street
  • Concerts (indie and rock music). We watched two groups: Gold & Youth and Towers and Trees.

We walked visiting the different places, a lot of free things to eat (chocolate, cookies) and some performances like break dance and humor shows. We saw some very funny things: a lot of old women dancing electronic. A man with a horse mask playing the guitar on top of a caravan…
It was a really good festival, everything very clean and well organized, with the Canadian style 🙂

INTERNeX Explorer: The Rocky Mountains -Part 3

Next weekend, we are finally going to the Rocky Mountains trip! So close yet so far…but I’m sure time will fly by. So on our last night, we will be staying in Golden, BC. Let’s find out more about this place, shall we?

Golden is near six of the most spectacular Canadian National Parks  (Banff, Glacier, Jasper, Kootenay, Mount Revelstoke and Yoho). It was first explored by David Thompson, a Canadian pioneer during 1807, when he stumbled upon the future site of Golden.  Like Valemount and Banff, Golden also contributed to the development of the Canadian Pacific Railway as it became a base camp that extended the line further west in order to create a cross-country network of rails.

This place is now a major attraction for tourists with many activities to do including skiing, back-country skiing, mountain biking and river rafting. The town also thrives on its forest industry. The forest industry began with the development of CPR, which was also used for buildings and bridges.

Golden also lies near the Kicking Horse River. How did it get that name? It’s actually an interesting story…an explorer James Hector was crossing a river when he accidentally got kicked and knocked unconscious by his own horse! He was thought to be dead. But as they were about to bury him, Hector woke up and started to move around. They called the river the Kicking Horse.

I am counting down the days until we get to see this beautiful and historical place 🙂 are you?

Cheers,

Flora

INTERNeX Canada: INTERNeX goes Rockies – Summer Edition – Review!

Wherever you spent our long weekend, we hope it was a blast! For some of the INTERNeX candidates and the PR team it was probably one of the best weekends ever in Canada! Fantastic, awesome, beautiful – breathtaking nature, flash mob, campfire, BBQ, Jägerbombs!!!

17 of us joined West Trek for their famous Rocky Mountains tour. The party bus picked us up in Vancouver on Friday morning and we started our Rockies adventure. Lee, our tour guide, made sure we had four days of party party party during our stops and in the bus. He entertained us with games and jokes (supriiiiise…!) and made us dance, sing and love the Backstreet Boys again! We learned a lot about Canadian nature and the Rockies as Lee shared interesting facts and experiences with us. Did you know that there is a lake monster living in BC? Ogopogo didn’t show himself but a bear crossed our way!

We stopped our ongoing bus party to see the most beautiful spots of the Rocky Mountains! Mount Robson, the highest peak of the Canadian Rockies, and Athabasca Falls were some of the distinctive natural wonders of the mountains. Between the peaks the mountain lakes revealed all their incredible beauty. I am sure Lake Louise and Moraine Lake are among the most beautiful places on earth. The water is so blue it could easily compete with the bluest skies that we were lucky to have the whole weekend. We couldn’t resist jumping into these clear blue lakes. With water temperature just around 5 to 8°C it was a very extreme refreshment but when will you get a chance to swim in a Rocky Mountains lake again? Even colder was the glacier ice of the Columbia Icefields that gave us an impression of the eternal winters in the Rockies.

In the evenings we had BBQ dinners with the best view of the mountains and our party nights lasted until the morning! The hockey and pub night taught us to play street hockey and Canadian drinking games. Our club night in one of the most famous places in Canada was just mind-blowing – Banff was one hell of a party! A tasteful breakfast the next morning on top of the mountain was just right to get us going for the next day. Our last night at the campfire was an amazing open-air party where people mingled and had a lot of fun together.

All of us were from different countries but all the fun, the mountains and especially our incredible tour guide Lee brought us all together! It was such an aaaamazing and unforgettable trip!!

Leave a comment (or Call Me Maybe!) and tell us how YOU experienced the Rocky Mountains!

Cheers,

Xenia
