How Was Your Weekend?

And it’s Monday again which means back to work, but not before I relive my amazing weekend just one more time. So if you would like to know what I did during my weekend than keep on reading.

So on Saturday, after sleeping for quit some while, I got up to do some grocery shopping and after that I got ready to go out that night since it was Marvin’s last night in Vancouver. We started off in The Morrissey pub where we had some drinks and food. After a while we decided to go to The Bourbon where we danced the night away and played some pool. At the end of the night it was time to say goodbye to Marvin, but I’m sure we will see each other again somewhere.

The next morning I had to wake up early since it would be an active day for me. David, Rebecka and I decided to go to Lynn Valley Park to do a small hike and to of course walk over the suspension bridge. So we took the bus after grabbing some coffee at Starbucks and drove to Lynn Valley Park. When we arrived there we bought some hot chocolate to bring with us during the hike.

After we crossed the bridge we walked towards the river and drank some really clean and pure water from the river. We also did some rock climbing to see a small and hidden waterfall close to the place where most people swim during the summer.

Around 5 p.m. it started to get dark so we decided to go back and have some dinner before heading home.

23377101_1760953983946073_1264544648_oIn the meantime, Bart went with the other people from INTERNeX to Granville Island. After they had lunch it was time to see the sunset from up the hill. They went shopping for a hat and went to the public market before going to the brewery. At the brewery they got explained how different beers are made and what is important for the different tastes. Then it was time for the real work. They went in the brewery to see it actually happen and they closed the day by tasting different kind of tasters.

Thank you all for joining us either for the hike or for the Brewery Tour. We hope to see you all during PuB NiGHT this Wednesday.

INTERNeX Canada: Picture of the week!

This picture was taken when we went to the Granville Island Brewery tour last Saturday! Just look at Phi’s expression (bottom center), with his shoulders up and arms out, it almost seems like he is saying “oh well, what can you do?”. Why? Because it was so cold that day (just look at the greyness and fog in the background) yet we still braved the weather as we watched the street performer’s act all the way to the end. And we all even agreed to be photographed in the freezing cold without one complaint. But the smiles on our faces with the Canadian flag waving high above us is just so priceless in my opinion!

I hope you’re all enjoying the weekend! 🙂

Cheers,

Flora

INTERNeX Canada: How was your weekend?

Though it was cold and cloudy, it sure did not stop us from having an amazing time at the Granville Island Brewery tour last Saturday!

At first we didn’t know what we were getting ourselves into as our tour guide took us to the backroom where the  brewing process happened. But as she explained and took us through each step on how they make their unique Granville Island beer, everyone definitely became more relaxed. But of course, I’m sure everyone was just thinking about the tasting part of the tour!

I personally thought the best part of the tour was the beer sampling, and we got to choose three! Most of us went with the Limited Release, Maple Cream Ale, and the Hefeweizen. My favorite was the Hefeweizen because it tasted like Bananas! As we sat there drinking away, we chatted about the beer, which ones we liked and didn’t like. It was really cool getting to taste different types of their beer and I learned a lot about the process as well. If you haven’t been to Granville Island yet, you should visit it as least once before you leave Vancouver!

And those of us who braved the cold to watch the street performer after walking around the Public Market, we can all agree that the performer was just dragging out his act and making it look so much more difficult than it actually was.  I could have done that…well, maybe.

Then on Sunday, I got to sleep in and got to be lazy for a bit, which was super nice. That is until I went to the gym to work out. It made me feel better  that I exercised but now my arms are sore!

What did you do last weekend? Comment below and tell us! If you don’t have any plans and want to do something awesome this weekend, you should come skiing and snowboarding with us at Cypress Mountain on Saturday Feb 9th! Check our Facebook event page for more information!

Cheers,

Flora

INTERNeX Explorer: Granville Island – Part 1

Did you know that the city of Vancouver was originally called “Granville” before 1886? Today, Granville Street and Granville Island are some of the most popular areas in Vancouver and for good reasons – that’s where all the excitement are in the city.

We are going to try some beers at the Granville Island Brewery tour on Saturday, February 2nd so I thought it would be a good idea to get to know a little bit about this little island.

In the late 19th Century, Granville Island was an undeveloped land consisting of two sandbars that were mostly used by the local First nations for fishing. False Creek which surrounds this island was twice the size as it is today.

Granville Island has gone through many changes over the many decades. During the industrial boom in the early Twentieth Century, a second Granville Street Bridge was built to sustain the countless steel, wood, paint and cement factories that emerged. Over 1,200 workers travelled across this bridge every day until the Great Depression hit where many sawmills and factories were closed.

The Second World War came and demand for products rose, reviving the usefulness of Granville Island. But of course, the demand for heavy industrial output ended yet again after the war so the city officials decided to transform this island into what it is today – a place for people to gather.

If you visit Granville Island today, you will still see many traces of its historic origins such as the Canadian Pacific Railway tracks that are not in use anymore and some old tenants that are still in business such as Ocean Construction Ltd., a concrete factory that has been on the Island for over 90 years.

Stay tuned next week for more on Granville Island and what amazing things there is to do when you visit it now!

Cheers,

Queenie
