PuB Night Review: Donnellans

Thank you all for joining us last night at our PuB NiGHT in the Donnellans Irish Pub.

Donnellans is a pretty new pub located on Granville Street in Granville Entertainment District. They frequently have live musicians performing at the pub. A fun fact of the pub is that all the employees who are working at Donnellans are also actually from Ireland.

Our night started after work when Bart and I first went to eat something at the Moose.

After some more people showed up and after some drinks we decided to end our night in the karaoke bar where we of course sang some fun songs.

I hope you all had an amazing time last night and I wish you all a nice long weekend!!

HALLOWEEN CLUB CRAWL REVIEW

Last Saturday was Halloween and nearly everyone went crazy. Actually that’s not surprising; I mean it’s one of the most popular events in North America. You could see many people who were dressed as a Minion. At least just as many wore a Super Mario or Luigi costume. Consequently the costume of my roommate and me perfectly fitted since, as I mentioned in one of my last blog posts, I was dressed as Mario and she was my “brother” Luigi.

For my first real Halloween party in Canada I certainly had big expectations and they were more than fulfilled last Saturday! Actually they were exceeded. Hundreds of people wearing Halloween costumes and went absolutely crazy.

After around 10pm the entire Granville Street was closed for cars. So Granville was just opened for all the party people and therefor the street was really crowded. The line-ups in front of the clubs were quite long. That’s why people partied even on the street.

First we had some difficulties at in the beginning but then we started our crazy night at the Harbour Event Center near BC Place. Shortly after we entered the club the first bus left to take us to our second party location. 22719343705_7ab7449cd4_bWe went from party to party with a typical American school bus, which was absolutely amazing. I always wanted to take a bus like that. The atmosphere during the bus ride was incredible since the people turned the bus into a party bus. Probably most of them were already drunk at this time but they didn’t care after all it was Halloween. The bus driver let us off on Granville Street where all the fancy clubs are located.

It was the first time I celebrated Halloween in such a big way and it was a great to be part of it.

Grey Cup Festival Parade and cheerleader competition

This Sunday, November 30th, a big event will take place in Vancouver. It’s the Canadian Football League’s championship, the Grey Cup, which is coming to Vancouver. This will be celebrated with lots of events in several places around downtown. This Saturday a great parade will celebrate Canadian football with marching bands and much more. Unlike some of the other events leading up to the Grey Cup Championship, it won’t cost you a fortune to watch this parade… in fact it’s for free! 🙂

We will meet up in front of the Joey Burrard Grill/Lounge at 10am. Joey Burrard is situated only 500 metres walk from Vancouver City Centre Station. The parade finishes at 12pm at Dunsmuir Street and Granville Street but we’ll move on to watch the Grey Cup cheerleader competition at Vancouver Convention Centre, West Building, Exibition Hall C. Cheerleaders from across the country are competing against each other. And there’s free entrance!

If you’re not able to make it till 10am, just show up in front of the Olympic Cauldron / 2010 Olympic Flame (Coal Habour) right next to the convention centre at 11:00am.

Click here link to get an overview of the area in which the parade will take place.

You can sign up through our Facebook event page.

Review: Pub Night @ The Beaver

Yesterday we had our great weekly pub night. This time we visited The Beaver on Granville Street. We got a small table but it wasn’t a problem to fit all of us people into this small space 🙂 Most of us tried out some of the nice food. The beers weren’t bad either and all of the locally brewed bottled beers were served for quite reasonable prices… only $5.50. A lot of people were fitted into this little pub, and of course they were all ready for the bingo evening. The Beaver is situated at the ground level of the SameSun Hostel, so there are always a lot of different activities going on at this pub. Of course we were also up for playing bingo. Aaaand this time we were much luckier than last time we played. Yep, that’s right we did actually win something. We won a good deal of beer but it would have been nice to win one more time, since it took a very good deal of beer to share between all of us.

Thanks for a very good evening. It was great to see so many of you defying to let the cold weather make you stay at home. But for sure the temperature inside the pub wasn’t bad either 🙂 And looking forward to see those of you guys who are going on the Portland trip… It’ll be awesome!
