My birthday dinner

Hi everyone,

Yesterday was my birthday and I decided to celebrate by going out for dinner. Laura and me met up with a couple of people that i met here in Vancouver. We met them through other INTERNeX events and we have been hanging out ever since.

I really wanted a find nice restaurant that had something to eat for everyone. So I looked, and looked, and looked some more but it was worth it because the restaurant we went to was amazing.  When we were walking to the restaurant my first impression was not a good one. The restaurant’s name, which was Kingston Taphouse & Grill, was spelled out in neon lettering. But I learnt that you shouldn’t judge a book, or restaurant for that matter, on it’s cover. As soon as we walked in the restaurant, I loved it. It was very quiet, has a lot of atmosphere and is so charming.

The waitress later told us that it is usually busy during hockey season and that is it slow when there are not playing. We were with 7 people and when it is busy in a restaurant you can’t really hear everyone, but because it was a slow day we could all talk together.

The food was excellent. I had a steak and it was prepared perfectly. The others had burgers (which looked so good!!), pizza, (this also look jummy) and Laura had kung poa chicken. She asked if it could be nice and spicy and that what she got (maby a bit to spicy!). And even though I was absolutely stuffed and couldn’t possibly eat anything else, I had to have a birthday cake. So I ordered a cheesecake, with a candle. I was very good but I had to have help from everyone to eat it. I had my very first strawberry daiquiri. I am a non-alcoholic drinker (yes I know, weird!) and I was surprised that I liked it.

The waitress was very friendly and the service was good. If you are looking for a nice place to go out for dinner I really recommend this place.

For more information see their website

After dinner I said goodbye to everyone and went with another friend to the Chinese markets on Keefer street, downtown Vancouver.  It was a very small market but it was very nice, there was lots of food stalls, cellphone stalls and there was even a live band. It consisted of two people singing a song of which they probability did not know the text as they were reading it as they went. They could also use a singing lesson or two because it was not very good. But it was very funny to watch.

I had a great birthday, thanks to everyone who came out and celebrated with me.

Thanks to everyone that came out last night to Malone’s Pub and Grill, I hope you had a great time! Haven’t made it out to INTERNeX PuB NiGHT yet? Don’t miss out on the next one happening June 10 at the Blarney Stone! Swing by around 8 p.m. and meet other INTERNeX program participants!

On Thursday night, Dance mob will be spinning the best of Top 40 rock and dance covers! More than just an Irish Pub, the Blarney Stone is Vancouver’s Institution for Irish Food, Entertainment, and Atmosphere.  Voted Best Irish pub in Vancouver again last year, the Blarney Stone offers a unique pub experience by day and rip roaring, feet stomping good times by night.  Conveniently located in the centre of Vancouver’s historic Gastown District, the Blarney Stone is both a local favourite and tourist destination.

This 7,000 square foot venue is pleasantly divided into many different areas and atmospheres.  As a traditional Irish pub, we have seating options from cozy booth snugs and large wing back loungers, to a shared spot at a long table or a seat at any one of our three bars.

The Blarney Stone has a large selection of Draft Beers, Scotches, and Whiskeys (they are Irish after all!), and Vodkas from around the world.  We have a newly renovated kitchen and our menu is a mix of authentic Irish food and dishes with a modern and international flare.

Have a pint with friends after work or watch almost any game on one of our many Plasma TV’s.  Later in the evening, mix it up on our large dance floor!

INTERNeX PuB NiGHT

Happy midweek guys! So I just wanted to take the time to rave about our most recent PuB NiGHT this past Monday. We had around 15-20 people show up and I’m sure for those of you who were there, you know how happy this made me! (You can see my grin from all the way in the back of the picture)

I got a lot of great feedback from everybody and it really reassured me that all the hard work that we have put into our social networking tools has truly paid off. I had such a fun time speaking to each and every one of you and hearing all about the crazy INTERNeX Staffhouse party, so I really have to attend the next one. Check out our flicker page to see some of the hilarious pictures they took at their Hippie House Party.

So just you all know we have one more week at Malone’s Bar & Grill and then we will be packing up and moving to a new location for three weeks. I have a small list of possible places but if anyone has any ideas please let me know by email or at the next PuB NiGHT. Gotta run now and get back to work, ciao!

INTERNeX PuB NiGHT 2010-01-25

Hey everyone today is your lucky day…two blog posts for your enjoyment! This week was the start of our PuB NiGHT revival haha. These past few weeks the PuB NiGHT has kind of been under the radar but Shinya, Matt and I are dedicated to getting it going again and even better then before. We are actually planning to change our location every three weeks so if you have any suggestions for possible locations we are more than happy to listen. This week we went to Malone’s Bar & Grill and it was lots of fun. We had great company, ate some yummy food and then drank some delicious drinks…what more could you ask for. As you can see below, Shinya and Shintaro enjoyed their yam fries quite a bit (Shinya was a little distracted by the hockey game)

I on the other hand wasn’t too keen on having my picture taken…

it was a long day k? haha and I just wasn’t camera ready. It was great seeing all you there though and I hope that even more of you will be able to make it next week. Same location and same time. Talk to you guys later!

New INTERNeX PuB NiGHT Location

Hey everyone, just wrapping up my last few tasks before out PuB NiGHT. But i have some good news for you guys…we have a new location! I’ve gotten a lot of really great feedback from you guys and have decided to have our new location at Malone’s Bar & Grill. This bar is located at 608 Pender Street and is a great student hang-out since it is close to all the downtown language schools. We will be meeting up at this location on Monday Jan. 25th at an earlier time 0f 7pm  just because we have heard that it can get pretty busy early and we do not want to run the risk of anyone not getting in. So hope you all can make it! and keep checking our facebook and blog page for more updates.
