Is Canada on your bucket list?

As I was reading through the paper this morning, pictures of the annual “Running of the Bulls” festival in Spain filled the pages. As I flipped through the photographs, I couldn’t help but think that although some of people looked terrified (who wouldn’t with a 2,800 pound bull chasing them) – they had crossed something off of their bucket list, and it got me thinking.

What’s on my bucket list? What things do I want to conquer with every ounce of my being before my time here is over? This year alone has brought so many firsts for me and I really look forward to what the next six months will bring. If you’re reading this, that means you’re on the other side of the computer screen. You may already be in Canada or maybe you’re still in your home country. Either way, take the time to write down 5 adventurous things you want to do in your life, or how about this year!

If you’re not in Canada, then is visiting here on your bucket list? Do you want to see this beautiful country and experience the sight of mountains and city in the same glance? You can do it if you set your mind to it, and you can also come here on an internship, work placement or volunteer opportunity through any of INTERNeX’s programs.

What’s on my bucket list? (Not in any order)

Swim with sharks

Try Fencing

Play a round of golf in Scotland

Drink a round of beers in Scotland

Bungee jump

Solve a rubix cube

Skydive

Visit Africa

Get my motorcycle license

and Live in New Zealand.

Those are just a few things on my list of things to accomplish in my lifetime, and this list is always growing. In my opinion, it should never stop, because you are never done exploring and trying new things! So, start writing YOUR bucket list!

More about the Running of the Bulls Festival:

Every morning of the festival at 8 a.m., six bulls are guided through the narrow, medieval streets of Pamplona by an equal number of large steers — each wearing a clanking cowbell — whose task is to keep the pack tight and galloping at an even pace.

The run covers 930-yards (850-meters) from a holding pen on the edge of town to the central bull ring where the bulls will face matadors and almost certain death in the afternoon.

The final bull, a massive red-colored beast called Gavioto from the renowned Jandilla ranch, was coaxed into a pen at the bullring, the final destination. In the ring, Gavioto tossed a man in the air, partially removing his trousers with the tip of his right horn.

Twilight Triple Bill!

Yesterday was a big day for all Twilight Fans! Eclipse, the third movie of the popular series premiered  last night.

I have to confess that even though I have read all the books and have seen all the movies I am still not a fan. I love the genre, you can wake me up anytime for a good vampire or werewolves movie but Twilight just doesn’t do it for me.

The opinion of people all around the world about Twilight are very versatile. You have the absolute fans, otherwise know as Twihards or Twilighter or people who don’t like it at all!  I went to the movies to find out why people seem to like it so much that they are willing to camp out for several days in order to get tickets  for the premiere (for the full story click here). So I am somewhat in the middle, but together with a few people from the Staffhouse I went to the Twilight Triple Bill yesterday at the Scotiabank Theatre.

So what is the Triple Bill? All three Twilight movies in one night! We started at 7pm with Twilight, then at 9.30 pm New moon and at 12.01 am Eclipse! For me going to a premiere and going to three movies in one night was a first so the night was even better!

Because of all the craziness surrounding Twilight we decided to go to the theatre at 5 pm and see how busy it was, and that turned out to be a smart decision! Because even though we had 2 hours before the movie started there was already a line of people waiting.  So we got in line and waiting to be let into the theatre. Luckily we were early enough to get some good seats. And then it began!

The first time I saw the Twilight Movie (yes I have seen it multiple times)  I did not like it at all. But then I watched it again with a friend and it started to grow on me. Last night I actually liked it, but that might have something to do with the atmosphere that was present yesterday. I had seen the second movie, New Moon, before and I already liked this one better. That could have something to do with Jacob (played by Taylor Lautner) always walking around with no shirt on but this movie is, in my humble opinion better.

The third movie started at 12.01 am, and even though I was really tired at that time (who can blame me after two movies right after each other)  I loved it. I read the book a long time ago so I don’t really remember what was in them, but I think they did a pretty okay job. When making a movie after a book there are always scenes that don’t make the movie but in general I think that the director David Slade did a good job.

Eclipse was David Slade’s first Twilight movie and in my opinion he captured the Twilight spirit that can be found in the books the best.  This movie was a bit darker as it is in the books, but it also had a few good laughs.

I wouldn’t go into to much details in case there are some people how haven’t seen it yet, but I really recommend everyone to go Eclipse.

INTERNeX Pot Luck June 6!

Since last weekend’s barbecue went so well, INTERNeX has decided to use food once more to bring people together! Join other INTERNeX participants on June 6 for a Potluck dinner! Come to the INTERNeX house around 6:30 p.m., and join in on the fun! This will be a relaxing evening featuring a nice dinner party.

If you don’t know what a potluck is, then you need to participate! A potluck is a gathering of people where each person contributes a dish of food to be shared among the group. This is a great way to show your cultural background, so bring a dish that best represents your country! It will be a fun way to teach others about where you’re from and learn about other people too! After all, food is a way that cultural groups express their way of living!

Please e-mail me at pr@internexcanada.com to tell me what you’re bringing. This is so we don’t have duplicates of dishes. If you don’t know where the staff house is, also e-mail me for directions!  You can bring an appetizer, main course or dessert! It’s completely up to you! We really hope you can make it!
