How was your Weekend?

Even long weekends come to an end eventually.
So I hope you made the best out of your days off. Except for Saturday, even the weather was absolutely on our side. Which is the reason why we went hiking .. yes, on Saturday! But to be fair, I actually didn’t mind the weather very much. We were able to get some nice advantages out of it.
grouppic.jpg
We met up in downtown to go all the way to the Lynn Canyon Park. After about one hour drive we finally reached our destination and started off with the most popular part of the park – the Suspension Bridge. As I mentioned – the weather was probably not the best weather to hike, however, this had a huge advantage, there weren’t loads of people around. Still – we did not manage to take pictures all alone on the Suspension Bride .. maybe next time ;-)! We actually had a beautiful walk through the forest, which seemed to be very mysterious, even magical because of the fog settling in. In fact, a beautiful view we wouldn’t have gotten on a sunny day. Inspired by the mystical environment we found ourself discussing any kind of possible movie plot, we could shoot in here. To be honest, I’d definitely love to see the movie we spoke about :-D. stones.jpg
A few hours later, all of our grumpily stomaches agreed on grabbing some food asap.
We made our way to the sea bus station in North Vancouver, where a big food market provided the perfect choices for everyone. Our happy and exhausted group of people made their way back to Vancouver afterwards. And this time we took the Sea-bus, which was a first for some of us, including myself.
After all, Thanks again guys I had a fantastic day!
On Sunday I made my way to Kitsilano to visit a friend of mine. We made our way through many different cafes and pubs as the night got later. We even went to the beach to enjoy the last minutes of sun, since you never know when you’ll get to see her again. This sounds way more dramatic than I meant it to ;-D. Anyways, Sunday was also a nice shot to explore some of Vancouvers night life, since Monday was going to be a day off. And I actually had a great time out there.
Monday was Remembrance Day, so I went out to see one of the ceremonies happening around Vancouver. It was a great experience and made me  think of how lucky we actually are. It’s always good to take a minute or two to think about the bigger things than just yourself and your very own little problems. I ended the day walking through the beautiful Stanley Park and a treat of sushi afterwards.
What a beautiful weekend.
And even though the week just started, it’s already PuB-Night tomorrow. Isn’t that nice?! So I’ll see you all tomorrow at the Portside Pub, for further information don’t be shy to check out our Facebook Page :-).
Please make sure to let us know if you want to join us for the hockey game (Canucks vs. Oilers) on 1st December. Tickets are only available till tomorrow. So click on “going” or send me a private message, to make sure you won’t miss out on this one!
Can’t wait to see y’all!
Cheers,

What to do on the Weekend?

As the second week of November comes to an end, we are facing another long weekend. This means we are getting some more time to explore Vancouver at it’s fullest!

As we’ve been lucky with the weather so far, we have to use any chance we get to go out and explore, before the rainy and cold days are starting any time soon.

LynnCanyon.jpg

And therefore we are gonna go on a nice hike this Saturday.
The Lynn Canyon Park is one of the most beautiful places to be around Vancouver. And the best part: the suspension bridge is for free ;-). We’ll meet up in downtown and make our way up there together. Just to make sure we won’t leave without you, let us know if you’ll be joining (just one click on “going” on Facebook and you are sorted). This might be your last chance to actually go out before winter is finally here.
This is going to be great, so don’t miss out!

If you are still looking for something to do on Sunday, there will be the Bear Creek Park Light Festival hosted in the same named Park in Surrey. Furthermore there is the Riley Park Farmers Market happening at the Nat Bailey Stadium on Ontario Street this weekend. If you want to do, what the locals do, this might be a good shot.

And as I mentioned before, Monday is Remembrance Day. This is a very important and big day here in Canada. For this very special occasion you’ll find many ceremonies and parades in every part of Vancouver and beyond.  If you missed, what and why is happening on Remembrance Day, just check two blogposts below.

With all this great activities, I am sure you’ll have an amazing weekend and a good start in the upcoming week.
And the good thing: Pub-Night Wednesday is never far away!

I hope to see you on Saturday.
Have a fantastic weekend!

Over and out,

How was your weekend?

Another eventful weekend is behind us, so let’s have a look at what we did the last few days.

On Saturday we went hiking at the Lynn Canyon Park. That’s a popular destination, located in the district of North Vancouver. We met at 12 o’clock at the Waterfront Station and took two busses to get to the Lynn Canyon Cafe. Unfortunately we missed the second bus, so the arrival took as a bit longer than expected.

However as soon as we got there, we started our little hike. At first we had to cross the famous Lynn Canyon Bridge. It’s quite the same as the Capilano Suspension Bridge, but you don’t have to pay for that. That’s why I would definitely recommend going there.IMG_0897The next stop was the 30 foot pool. Clear, blue water, surrounded by a lot of rocks and trees. The popular swimming hole would be a perfect spot for a refreshing swim during the summer months, but unfortunately it was a cloudy and cold day. Despite that a few brave guys dared to jump into the ice-cold water.IMG_0916

After one lunch break and another quick stop at the Twin Falls we finished our hike. So, workout for the weekend was done. 🙂

On Sunday, me and my fellow students Barbara and Franzi went to Seattle. It was only a one-day-trip but it was quite cool to visit the most famous spots of this city. On the pictures below you can see for example the Space Needle and the popular Pike Place Market. Even though Seattle is famous for being the rainiest city of the United States, we were lucky with the weather. It wasn’t raining during our stay. Yessss!

I hope you enjoyed the weekend as much as I did. Thanks to everyone who joined!

How was your weekend?

The weekend is behind us, but before we start with this week, let’s take a look at what happened this weekend.

On Friday evening some of us went out. It was Julius’ 19th birthday, which means he is finally an adult in Canada, so of course we had to celebrate it. Our original plan was to go to the Pint, but due to technical problems it closed when we got there. So instead, we went to the Met. We stayed there for a bit. Afterwards, we headed to the Roxy, where we spent the rest of the night. It was a great evening.

On Sunday we hiked up the Grouse Grind. We met at 12.15 and had to wait quite a while, as our bus was late. Finally arriving at the bottom of the mountain, we got ready and then started our hike. The trail has quarter marks and the first quarter of the trail is suppose to be easier than the second and third one, but honestly for me they were all the same. Also, if you are already exhausted after the first quarter, it is recommended to turn back around, because it is not possible later on. I’m not going to lie, I actually considered turning around after the first quarter. The trail is almost 3 km long with an  elevation gain of 850 m and over 2,800 steps. So you can imagine how challenging it was. Thus, everybody went at their own pace. All of us finished the hike in under 2 hours. Up at the peak, we enjoyed the amazing view and of course also took some pictures. On the mountain, we also looked at the grizzly bears. Afterwards, we headed back down with the gondola.

It was a very exhausting hike and to be honest, I am not planning on doing it again any time soon. Nevertheless, it was a memorable experience. Thanks to everyone who joined. I’m proud of you and now you get to say, you hiked up Grouse Mountain.

Have a good day and see you on Wednesday at PubNiGHT!
