INTERNeX Canada: Fun Facts

Our Fun Facts for today consist of some funny laws existing in different countries. A few of them might be just a little outdated. But judge for yourself…

In Canada, if you are released from prison, it is required that you are given a handgun with bullets and a horse, so you can ride out of town.

Yeah right, so that you don’t have any means to do further harm – none at all.

In France, no pig may be addressed as Napoleon by its owner.

Would Hollande be OK?

In Alaska, U.S., it is considered an offense to push a live moose out of a moving airplane.

Seriously, who would do that?

In Florida, U.S., it is considered an offense to shower naked.

OK, really???

In Idaho, U.S., it is illegal for a man to give his sweetheart a box of candy weighing more than 50 lbs (~ 23 kg).

I take this as a personal offense – gimme my candy!

In Ohio, U.S., it is illegal to get a fish drunk.

First of all, how would someone get that done? Secondly, how could anyone ever tell??

In Kentucky, U.S., no female shall appear in a bathing suit on any highway within this state unless she be escorted by at least two officers or unless she be armed with a club.
[Ammendment] The provisions of this statuate shall not apply to […] to female horses.

OK, so does this mean that women and female horses are on the same level and even more disturbing – do horses in Kentucky usually wear bathing suits?

In Pennsylvania, U.S., all fire hydrants must be checked one hour before all fires.

Yeah, because you know when there will be a fire. They are always so reliable.

In Texas, U.S., criminals are required to give their victims 24 hours notice, either orally or in writing, and to explain the nature of the crime to be committed.

Dear Madam and Sir, I hereby inform you about my intention to murder you tomorrow at 8 p.m. I f this time does not suit you, we can reschedule. Sincerely yours,…

Hope that cheered you up a bit 🙂

See you soon,

Annika

INTERNeX Canada: Picture of the week

This time is the Picture of the week from Alberta, more specifically from Smoky Lake.  It shows Maria in their daily work in her four week ranch stay.

She lives there with the owner family and helps with the daily work on the ranch. As you can see she has a lot of fun at work. 🙂 The farm is specialized in the train of horses, but other animals have here their home too, such as these goats.

Maria is now in Canada for seven weeks and has attended a language school in Vancouver. The free time after school she has spent with friends from school to learn more about Vancouver. After a four week course she went on her trip to Alberta. Maria is still one more week in Alberta before she flies back to Germany.

Many, many thanks for the photo Maria. Enjoy your last week in Alberta. For your time in Germany we wish you all the best.

Cheers, Maria

Stumped on What To Do for the Weekend?

Horse Drawn Carriages

Stanley Park Horse Drawn Carriages!

If it is expected to be sunny during the weekend, we have the beautiful horse-drawn carriages taking place in Stanley Park.

I will write some articles introducing Stanley Park in the near future, but for now, I would like to give you a closer look at an old tradition since the days where transportation was provided by horses.

The carriages give you a tour through the beautiful Stanley Park.  Included is a guide that explains the highlights, such as Vancouver’s Harbour, Lions Gate Bridge, the Rose Garden, and many other scenic landscapes.

Because the horse-drawn carriages are only available until October 31st, you would only have one more month to experience why we would call our place “beautiful british columbia” in broad daylight, and in the mosaic colors that only autumn would bring.

Keep in mind that the maximum seating capacity is for 20 passengers.

Cloverdale Rodeo – Yeeehaw!

If anyone told me that I’d be watching grown men ride wild bulls in Vancouver, I wouldn’t have believed them. Little did I know though, that I would soon be having a great time at the annual Cloverdale Rodeo.

Yesterday I drove to Surrey with a friend to watch the second largest community rodeo in Canada. This rodeo attracts competitors and spectators worldwide, with many of the participants hailing from Alberta. This traditional exhibition brings agricultural and horticultural exhibits, including arts and crafts, home baking and canning, needle work, photography, sewing and flori-culture to the already, fun-filled long weekend. The exhibition, along with a wide assortment of family activities, truly makes the Cloverdale Rodeo & Exhibition “much more than just a rodeo”.

The Cloverdale Rodeo is well known for its bull riding, world-class cowboys and enthusiastic rodeo fans, but it’s also famous for its party scene. At the Rodeo, the party starts before noon and doesn’t stop until well after sundown. Known throughout the rodeo world, the Cloverdale Rodeo & Country Fair’s Longhorn Saloon, featured live music from May 20th until yesterday. To open up the festivities,  Canadian Rock Legend 54-40 kicked-off with a great performance.

Yesterday was the finals, with prizes as much as $50,000! For that much money, heck – even I would hop on the back of a bucking horse! Check out some of my pictures below!

Keep checking back for more exciting events like this one happening in your area!

For those of you in Vancouver, don’t forget about the INTERNeX BBQ Kick-off event happening May 29! Also make sure to sign-up for the 2-Day Whistler trip leaving June 19-20! Limited amount of space available!

Have a great long weekend everyone, and I’ll see you at INTERNeX PuB NiGHT at Malone’s Bar and Grill, May 26!

Cheers,

Laura
