How was the weekend?

It was long, but felt so short. 😀

On Saturday INTERNeX went on a little hike in Lynn Canyon, over the Suspension Bridge, through the lush forest, along the river and multiple waterfalls. It was a hot day, but the trees gave us a nice cool shade, so it wasn’t half bad. Another thing that cooled us down was the natural pool with its refreshing water, some just dipped their feet in, others were full on cliff jumping! Tim and Daniel had so much fun jumping that they stayed longer while the rest of us went on with the hike. On our way we saw more people cliff jumping from a different spot, it looked quite dangerous, so we were holding our breath for the jump. Fortunately nothing happened! The guys seemed to have experience. I could never imagine jumping into the water from such a height. Maybe because I’m afraid of heights? What about you? Are you into the thrill and adventure? Would you do cliff jumping? After the adrenaline kick from watching them jump, we had a hard time getting up the last couple of stairs before ending our hike, maybe because I told everyone there were no more stairs coming, but then oooppssiieee, surprise, more stairs! In the end they forgave me (I think) and we went back downtown. I don’t know about you, but I always feel weird being back in the city after a day in nature. It’s so calm and peaceful, versus so fast and exciting.

Exciting was also the Pride Parade on Sunday. We met on Davie street and walked all the way down to English Bay where we found a great spot to watch the parade. Again, it was a hot day but we had some trees covering us with shade and the firefighters in the parade were sprinkling everyone with water which was super refreshing. The display went on for 2-3 hours and it was so fun cheering everyone on, seeing all the different groups showing colour and celebrating diversity! There was lots of music and performances, good vibes and great people. We started collecting stickers, buttons, and other things they gave away. After a while people went and grabbed some food, while others went to the after-party at Sunset Beach. There were food trucks, two stages with live music and other booths around the area, the perfect set up for an awesome day.

I would tell you more, but this week is really busy at INTERNeX, so I’ll stop writing for today. I have to introduce you to a lot of newcomers on Thursday, so keep posted! 😉

We can also chat more tomorrow at Pub Night, 7pm at the GPO Kitchen and Bar, so you can tell me about YOUR weekend! 🙂

See you there!

Cheers,

Laura 🙂

Meanwhile in Vegas…

You might wonder why it was so quiet on the Blog this week. The answer is, INTERNeX went to Las Vegas for the 4th of July celebrations and I obviously couldn’t miss out on that. Still tired, I feel the last couple of days in my bones while sitting back at my desk in Vancouver. It was my very first time in the city that never sleeps and I understand now, why people say that. Here’s a little POV from our trip.

We’re on the plane early in the morning, excited to arrive at the shiniest place on earth. The city is so big you can see the flickering ads on the buildings from up in the sky. After refreshing ourselves at the hotel we decide to take the Monorail (kind of like a skytrain that runs parallel to the Las Vegas Strip) and go down to the famous ‘Welcome to fabulous Las Vegas’ sign to take a nice group photo. The last station of the Monorail however, is a bit further away, which means we have to walk quite a bit to get to the sign.

At first that seems totally fine, but it is 42 degrees pure sun shining on us, so it gets harder with every minute of walking. I really feel that I’m in the middle of a desert. In the distance we see something… is that a Fata Morgana? A yellow ‘M’ appears on the horizon and it whispers ‘Air Condition’ and ‘food’. Thankfully we are right, it’s a McDonalds that was going to save us. It feels really good to cool down, eat and drink an iced beverage before continuing our journey.

Surprisingly we all made it to the sign, just to find out that there’s a long queue of people waiting in the heat to take a photo. We find a way to sneak to the side and skip the line by taking a photo there instead of right underneath the sign. If you are ever planning on going, keep that in mind! Another thing we’ve come to realize, it’s cheaper to take an Uber or Lyft when you are travelling with a group than it is taking a bus, plus it’s more convenient as well.

After spending some free time we all meet again at a nice Mexican restaurant to have dinner and drinks together. The tacos are amazing! The first day has been successful, but tiring. Matt plays a round of Black Jack at the Casino but gives up pretty fast, I guess it’s time for bed. We decide to keep it chill and save our energy for the next day.

A few of us are going to a pool party, the perfect place to be on a hot sunny day, and indeed it is so much fun! I’d recommend buying tickets in advance as well as eating and drinking lots before going because prices are insane; $57 for a cocktail… Everything else is totally worth it though, we’re having a blast! Another group of us is taking the day to explore the city some more.

In the evening everyone is out to see the Independence Day fireworks! My favourite view is from the Bellagio Fountains. There’s a fountain show with light, music and the fireworks in the background. Even at night it’s nice and warm in the city. I actually prefer the night over the day in Vegas! Everything is sparkling in bright lights, and the sun doesn’t burn you. 😀

There’s definitely always something to do and the time of our departure came too fast. After two days it’s time to say Goodbye to Vegas. We all agree it’s a very unique place. It doesn’t seem like a regular city, it’s its own little world. I still feel like I need to process the past days, so much happened in such little time, and with barely any sleep. But I guess that’s how it is when you visit Las Vegas. 😉

Have you ever been to Vegas? Would you go? What do you think of it?

I’d love to chat more about it at tonight’s pub night, 7pm at The Blarney Stone! See you there!

Cheers,

Laura 🙂

How was the weekend?

Hot, Adventurous, Fun. Those words describe my weekend best.

As you know, the sun was shining the entire weekend. For some it might’ve been too hot, but I loved the sunny weather. One reason I liked it so much might be that I spent my days near the water, so I could cool down easily.

On Saturday some friends (including their big puppy) and I went to Cultus Lake in Chilliwack. We brought some snacks, a big blanket, lots of water, air hammocks and a floatie with us, everything you need for a perfect day at the lake. I recommend going early, since it gets really busy on hot summer days and it can be difficult to find a good spot. I really enjoyed just relaxing in the sun, float on the lake and refresh in the cold water. There was also the Cultus Lake Festival going on, with lots of little booths and food trucks. If you ever get the chance try some cinnamon rolls from SinAmen Bun & Co., they are delicious!

After my rest day I felt ready for our Bubble Ball match with INTERNeX! We met at Charleson Park and started our adventure. Raul, the coach, explained the basics to us, for example to never bump someone from the back, and how to get in and out of the bubble, before we started our first game: “Bubble Soccer”. My team won both rounds (wohoo), but we weren’t ready for the next game. It’s called “Protect the General”. Each team had to choose one general and the goal for the other team was to knock them down, or push them outside the lines of the field. We lost every single round and got bumped to the ground pretty hard. Nevertheless it was super fun! We had some free time to try out a few stunts in the Bubbles, like front flips, or back flips, before we finished with our last two games: “English Bulldog”, and “Musical Bubbles”. There was a lot of running and bumping involved, so it got pretty hot in the sun, even hotter in the bubbles!

To cool down, some of us went to Kitsilano Beach, where we met more people from INTERNeX. Apparently not everyone was tired from Bubble Ball yet, so they played a round of Volleyball. It was super busy at the beach, but we still found a nice spot to relax and enjoy the sunset with good music and a couple of beers. 😉 It was the perfect way to end the weekend, it just felt too short. But good news, this week will be a short one! Friday is Canada Day! Are you ready to celebrate?

I hope your weekend was great and you enjoyed the first days of summer in Vancouver.

See you at Pub night on Wednesday!

Cheers,

Laura 🙂

What to do on the weekend?

It’s Friday what means that it is again time for our favourite time in the week, the weekend is coming up. Of course also this Friday we have a short overview about that, what you can do on this probably really sunny weekend in Vancouver.

Khatsahlano Street Party
The Khatsahlano Street Party is Vancouver’s biggest Music and Arts Festival completely for free on this Saturday! This festival offers you about 40 food trucks, 50 live bands and hundreds of merchants and vendors across 10 blocks (about 1 mile). For more information and the schedule just have a look here.
As you may know, we are going to this festival together as well. We will meet us at 12:30 pm at the Esso Gas Station at Burrad Street / W 4th Avenue. We will be happy to see you there!

Theatre Under the Stars
Theatre Under the Stars is located at one of the most beautiful places in Vancouver, this theatre is located in the Stanley Park. The summer shows are starting this Friday till the 23th of August. This year they perform the two musicals ‘Shrek’ and ‘Legally Blonde’, one musical a day starting at 8 pm. Complete Schedule.

Food Cart Fest
The Food Cart Fest is a perfect way for you to try every different kind of Vancouver’s street food. Try what ever you like at one of over 20 different food carts located at the Olympic Village every Sunday in the summer.  The entrance fee will be $2. If you like to go but you are not able to  go an Sunday’s or to the Olympic Village; the Food Cart Fest is also in Surrey on Saturday’s at the City Hall Plaza.

Beaches
The weather forecast for this weekend is making us very happy, it is supposed to be very warm in Vancouver, up to 27 degrees! So it will be perfect days for enjoying these days at one of Vancouver’s beautiful beaches. Mostly all of them are perfect for nearly everything you like: sports, just relaxing or tanning, swimming in the water or even a picnic at the beach. Vancouver has eight beaches which are directly at the open water: English Bay Beach, Jericho Beach, Kitsilano Beach, Locarno Beach, Second Beach, Spanish Banks Beach, Sunset Beach, Third Beach. We hope you enjoy the weather!

Soccer World Cup in Brazil
It is still world cup time! This weekend will be the last but also the most important and exciting weekend in the world cup! It time for the final on Sunday, 12 pm! Germany and Argentina will fight in the last match for the world cup trophy. Of course the INTERNeX PR-Crew is cheering for Germany, for which team are you cheering for? You should not miss the final, enjoy an exciting match and cheer for your favorite team. There are many spots where you can watch the final, it will be a great end of the world cup, even when you watch it in a city with so many nationalities like Vancouver.

We hope you will have a great and enjoyable weekend and may see you at the Khatsahlano Street Party or to watch the soccer world cup final on Sunday! Just have an amazing time while you are in Vancouver!

INTERNeX Canada: Smart Saver Vancouver

With our Smart Saver we search for the best deals or offers in Vancouver to make you stay in Canada more affordable!

Today we are talking about the Army and Navy Store on Cordova St. This store is one of the oldest in Vancouver and has been there for ages. It is not only a place to buy clothes and furniture, but it’s also worth a visit when you are searching for cheap food and drinks!

What do you think about a whole package of Chocolate Cockies for $1,50? Or a cold drink for $1-2? This place has more to offer than you think. The next time that you are in downtown make a short stop at this awesome place! MAP

Right now they are selling some cheap Canadian flag t-shirts or hoodies.
(under the $10!)

Because of the hot weather the last week, you can go to McDonalds for some cheap soda’s. For only $1 you have a large soda (Cola, Fanta etc.) and a free refill included. This price is not a offer, its always this cheap at McDonald’s Canada. Really worth a visit in my opinion.
