The Rockies Review – Part 1

As I am writing this blog post I am having some mixed feelings. I am sad because our trip to the Rockies is behind us. I am relieved that everything went well. I am happy because I have some time to rest now. I am also thankful for all the great memories we made during this trip. This weekend was something I am never going to forget.

I still can’t quite process how much sightseeing we managed to do during these past few days. I am not even trying to list all the places we saw since that would require a lot of space and I don’t think it would be that interesting to read. For a change I am going to tell you more about few things that were the highlights of the trip for me.

On our way to Banff we stopped at Glacier Discovery Centre. It was time to have a nice walk on a glacier. We hopped on to this vehicle called “the Ice Explorer”, which is especially designed for driving on a glacier. The weather was spoiling us as it was a sunny day and you didn’t really even need a jacket outside. We spent some time walking around the glacier, taking pics (ofcourse) and enjoying the amazing view. There was supposed to be an opportunity to get some super pure water straight from the glacier but it had been snowing so much the previous day that we didn’t find any running water. Instead we ended up collecting some snow from the glacier to our water bottles. I mean it kinda does the job, doesn’t it?

Half way through our trip we spent a night in Banff. A stunning little town surrounded by breathtaking mountains. The night in Banff was a party night for us and we sure partied like there was no tomorrow. The next day it was time to explore the town itself a bit more. Checkout from the hotel was early and our party group was feeling pretty tired after having only few hours of sleep. We made a great plan and decided to visit Banff Upper Hot Springs which was located only a 10-minute-drive away. There we spent a relaxed sunny morning in steaming hot water. The views from the pool to the Rocky Mountains were absolutely gorgeous. What else can you wish for?

As mentioned, this weekend was super eventful, and this was only a sneak peak of the whole trip. If I were to tell you every single thing about the trip, I would have to write a book. What can I say; this trip is something you really have to experience yourself. Thanks to everyone who participated. I had such a great time with you all and without you guys it wouldn’t have been this amazing!

How was your weekend?

How my weekend was? Hmm.. I can’t decide which word describes this weekend the best: great, wonderful, awesome, perfect, gorgeous, fabulous, fantastic, spectacular or exceptionally good? At least I had a lot of fun, because this weekend was our trip to Kelowna. Oh, now I got your interest? Well, sit back and read all about our adventures in this beautiful city.

The adventure started Friday at 12 pm at the Pacific Central Station. People showed up with their suitcases and bags to get in the bus. And there we go, a five-hour ride to Kelowna! We saw some beautiful views on our way. After a long sit we arrived in Kolowna. We dropped our stuff in our rooms and walked to this awesome steakhouse. One of the hardest decisions was: What are we going to eat? So many nice choices like burgers, chicken and ribs. When the hunger was gone and we finished our meals it was time to have a little party at the hotel. We played some fun games and, since it was carnival, we played some nice carnival music.

*BIEP BIEP BIEP* At 6:45 the alarm went of. Time for all the skiers and snowboarders to get some breakfast and prepare ourselves for a day in the snow. After one hour in the bus we arrived at the Big White. In the lift to the top we realized how beautiful the view is from there. A sky as blue as a millionaire’s swimming pool. We went down a lot of times from different slopes. The area was very big, so we could do every time a different slope to see them all. The trials where not crowded at all, so many times we had the mountain for ourselves. We ended the day with a beer during the après ski next to the campfire. Then it was time for us to take the bus back to our hotel. We had a little time to prepare ourselves for another dinner and night out. This time we went to an Asian restaurant next to the hotel. Also here we enjoyed some delicious food. We decided to taste our wines we bought at the wine tasting tour and do another fun game before going to Sapphire, the biggest club in Kelowna. A 00’s party was going with a DJ who played all our classic sing-alongs.

Rise and shine, a new day has arrived. We woke up fresh and energetic to start the day with a boost. Ok, maybe not, but at least we stood up to have breakfast. When the rooms were clean and the luggage was packed, we took the bus to Kelowna downtown. In the city we did the scavenger hunt game. The groups had to do as many fun assignments as possible to get points. So we proposed, hugged, fished, danced and so on. After three hours, we met at the bus again to get our luggage and go home. This time we could enjoy a bus ride for 7 hours. Since we did not sleep that much this weekend, we could catch some sleep during the ride.

It was really great to hear that all of you had a great time! And so did we! Thanks to you, it was a really nice weekend. If you did not went on this trip, I am happy to tell you all about it tomorrow at PuB NiGHT in the Lamplighter. See you then!

Are you ready for Kelowna?

Count away the nights! Just two more days before we are in the bus to Kelowna! That means time to start packing your suitcase. But what to bring? What are we going to do? No worries, I will tell you all about the trip in this blog.

We meet on Friday 12:00 pm at Pacific Central. We drop our baggage in the bus and prepare ourselves for a five-hour ride to Kelowna. At approximately 5:30 pm we arrive at the hotel. After checking in, we prepare ourselves for a dinner in Kelowna. The rest of the night is yours. If you want to ski or snowboard, keep in mind that the bus will leave early the next morning to the Big White.

Rise and shine, next day arrives! Breakfast is ready from 7 am till 10 am. For the ones who want to ski or snowboard, the express bus to the Big White departs at 8 am. This shuttle will cost you $25 dollar for a round trip. You can pay a ticket in the bus. After one hour you will arrive at the mountain where you can spend the whole day in the snow. A lift ticket will cost you $95 dollar (or $80 dollar for students). Bring your own skis or rent them on the mountain for $45 dollars. After spending the day in the snow it is time to go back to Kelowna. At 4pm the express bus will depart from the big mountain back to Kelowna.

For the ones who are not going to the Big Mountain, there are a lot of activities to do in and around Kelowna. One of the options is doing a wine tour. Kelowna is very famous for the many wines they produce there. Other options may be zip lining, doing the tree obstacles tour, go for a hike or just chill in the hot tub at the hotel. We meet back at the hotel at 5pm to prepare ourselves for the second night in Kelowna. After dinner it is time to party in one of the pubs or clubs Kelowna has to offer.

On Sunday, unfortunately our last day already in Kelowna, we are going to discover the city by daylight. After our breakfast we will head to the city and do a scavenger hunt. After the great success from the Whistler scavenger hunt, we have a new version 2.0 ready for you! After the craziness we will get back to the hotel to pick up our language and go to the bus. At 4 pm we will take the bus back to Vancouver. At approximately 10 pm we will arrive back in Vancouver.

I hope you are all as excited as I am. Don’t forget your passport and a second piece of ID. Also for the people who want to swim in the hot tub, don’t forget to bring your swimwear. Keep in mind that the office will be closed from Friday till Monday. I can’t wait to see you all on Friday! And of course tonight at PuB NiGHT as well!

How was your weekend?

Rise and shine, a new week has just started. That means getting back to work and look forward to the next weekend. But before we talk about the next weekend, I will first tell how my weekend was.

On Friday my weekend began with ice-skating at Robson Square. Since I am Dutch, I enjoyed the time on the ice. After a while, we decided it was time to get off the ice and do some real sport: dancing in the club. And that is exactly what we did. We first drank a beer with my 62-year-old neighbor, since it was her birthday the day before. When we learned her a lot of new things she might or might not wanted to know, we moved to the Yale Saloon for some line dancing and bull riding.

The next day my alarm went off. What? On Saturday? Yes, it was time to get my parents from the airport. I went with them to their new temporary place to get a drink before I showed them around on Granville Island. We had a really nice dinner and because they were beginning to fall asleep because of their jetlag, it was the right time for them to head back to the hotel. That also meant time for me to meet the others to go to a hardstyle party. Everyone really enjoyed this music (“How do you have to dance on this?”). After a while, I headed home to prepare myself for a busy Sunday.

Then Sunday was there. I went back to my parents’ hotel to have breakfast. When we walked out of the hotel, the hop on hop off bus was waiting for us to get in. We drove around Vancouver and saw Gastown, the lookout tower, fly over Canada and Stanley Park. At the end of the day, the bus brought us back to the hotel. We did some games (which I won of course) and had dinner. I invited them to my Jacuzzi on the roof to end the day relaxing.

I can say I had a really nice weekend. I am already counting down to the next one. But first, there will be a pub night in between where you can tell me all about your adventures during your weekend. So I hope to see you all at TAPshack this Wednesday!

INTERNeX goes Portland-14th November

Portland

Yaaay we’re going to Portland.

On November 14^th to 16^th we are planning to go to Portland, also known as the “City of Roses”. On Friday, November 14,we’ll meet at 7 am at Waterfront Station. After crossing the Border to the US we’ll have lunch in Southern Washington. The expected approach time in Portland will be 5 pm. You’ll have the opportunity to watch a Basketball game for $25 on Friday as well as on Saturday. Those who don’t want to watch a game can enjoy their free time in Portland.
After included breakfast at the hotel on Saturday, we are going to shop at Woodburn tax free Outlet Mall. Take a look here to get an overview of all the nice shops in the Woodburn tax free Outlet Mall. You’ll be able to get your first Christmas presents in all these different shops.

Later on we’ll have a Portland walking City tour with our friendly tour guide.
On Sunday we’ll leave Portland at 9am after our included breakfast. Before our lunch break in Southern Washington we’ll stop at Multnomah Waterfalls, which is the tallest waterfall in the State of Oregon and the second tallest year-round waterfall in the United States. At the Canadian Border you’ll be able to do some Duty Free Shopping before we’ll be back in Vancouver at about 8 pm.

• Passport (Passports must be valid and be Machine-readable)

• Copy of Airplane Ticket or Student Registration
• Proof of medical insurance
• Government photo ID for proof of age
• Also important are some good walking shoes
