How was your weekend?

How my weekend was? Hmm.. I can’t decide which word describes this weekend the best: great, wonderful, awesome, perfect, gorgeous, fabulous, fantastic, spectacular or exceptionally good? At least I had a lot of fun, because this weekend was our trip to Kelowna. Oh, now I got your interest? Well, sit back and read all about our adventures in this beautiful city.

28080563_1888898747818262_1858428207_o1.jpgThe adventure started Friday at 12 pm at the Pacific Central Station. People showed up with their suitcases and bags to get in the bus. And there we go, a five-hour ride to Kelowna! We saw some beautiful views on our way. After a long sit we arrived in Kolowna. We dropped our stuff in our rooms and walked to this awesome steakhouse. One of the hardest decisions was: What are we going to eat? So many nice choices like burgers, chicken and ribs. When the hunger was gone and we finished our meals it was time to have a little party at the hotel. We played some fun games and, since it was carnival, we played some nice carnival music.

*BIEP BIEP BIEP* At 6:45 the alarm went of. Time for all the skiers and snowboarders to get some breakfast and prepare ourselves for a day in the snow. After one hour in the bus we arrived at the Big White. In the lift to the top we realized how beautiful the view is from there. A sky as blue as a millionaire’s swimming pool. We went down a lot of times from different slopes. The area was very big, so we could do every time a different slope to see them all. The trials where not crowded at all, so many times we had the mountain for ourselves. We ended the day with a beer during the après ski next to the campfire. Then it was time for us to take the bus back to our hotel. We had a little time to prepare ourselves for another dinner and night out. This time we went to an Asian restaurant next to the hotel. Also here we enjoyed some delicious food. We decided to taste our wines we bought at the wine tasting tour and do another fun game before going to Sapphire, the biggest club in Kelowna. A 00’s party was going with a DJ who played all our classic sing-alongs.

27990347_1888900691151401_1024515969_oRise and shine, a new day has arrived. We woke up fresh and energetic to start the day with a boost. Ok, maybe not, but at least we stood up to have breakfast. When the rooms were clean and the luggage was packed, we took the bus to Kelowna downtown. In the city we did the scavenger hunt game. The groups had to do as many fun assignments as possible to get points. So we proposed, hugged, fished, danced and so on. After three hours, we met at the bus again to get our luggage and go home. This time we could enjoy a bus ride for 7 hours. Since we did not sleep that much this weekend, we could catch some sleep during the ride.

It was really great to hear that all of you had a great time! And so did we! Thanks to you, it was a really nice weekend. If you did not went on this trip, I am happy to tell you all about it tomorrow at PuB NiGHT in the Lamplighter. See you then!

Are you ready for Kelowna?

Count away the nights! Just two more days before we are in the bus to Kelowna! That means time to start packing your suitcase. But what to bring? What are we going to do? No worries, I will tell you all about the trip in this blog.33230138645_8d468ed5dd_z

We meet on Friday 12:00 pm at Pacific Central. We drop our baggage in the bus and prepare ourselves for a five-hour ride to Kelowna. At approximately 5:30 pm we arrive at the hotel. After checking in, we prepare ourselves for a dinner in Kelowna. The rest of the night is yours. If you want to ski or snowboard, keep in mind that the bus will leave early the next morning to the Big White.

Rise and shine, next day arrives! Breakfast is ready from 7 am till 10 am. For the ones who want to ski or snowboard, the express bus to the Big White departs at 8 am. This shuttle will cost you $25 dollar for a round trip. You can pay a ticket in the bus. After one hour you will arrive at the mountain where you can spend the whole day in the snow. A lift ticket will cost you $95 dollar (or $80 dollar for students). Bring your own skis or rent them on the mountain for $45 dollars. After spending the day in the snow it is time to go back to Kelowna. At 4pm the express bus will depart from the big mountain back to Kelowna.

For the ones who are not going to the Big Mountain, there are a lot of activities to do in and around Kelowna. One of the options is doing a wine tour. Kelowna is very famous for the many wines they produce there. Other options may be zip lining, doing the tree obstacles tour, go for a hike or just chill in the hot tub at the hotel. We meet back at the hotel at 5pm to prepare ourselves for the second night in Kelowna. After dinner it is time to party in one of the pubs or clubs Kelowna has to offer.

On Sunday, unfortunately our last day already in Kelowna, we are going to discover the city by daylight. After our breakfast we will head to the city and do a scavenger hunt. After the great success from the Whistler scavenger hunt, we have a new version 2.0 ready for you! After the craziness we will get back to the hotel to pick up our language and go to the bus. At 4 pm we will take the bus back to Vancouver. At approximately 10 pm we will arrive back in Vancouver.

I hope you are all as excited as I am. Don’t forget your passport and a second piece of ID. Also for the people who want to swim in the hot tub, don’t forget to bring your swimwear. Keep in mind that the office will be closed from Friday till Monday. I can’t wait to see you all on Friday! And of course tonight at PuB NiGHT as well!

How was your weekend?

Rise and shine, a new week has just started. That means getting back to work and look forward to the next weekend. But before we talk about the next weekend, I will first tell how my weekend was.

Screen Shot 2018-01-22 at 5.54.48 PM

On Friday my weekend began with ice-skating at Robson Square. Since I am Dutch, I enjoyed the time on the ice. After a while, we decided it was time to get off the ice and do some real sport: dancing in the club. And that is exactly what we did. We first drank a beer with my 62-year-old neighbor, since it was her birthday the day before. When we learned her a lot of new things she might or might not wanted to know, we moved to the Yale Saloon for some line dancing and bull riding.

The next day my alarm went off. What? On Saturday? Yes, it was time to get my parents from the airport. I went with them to their new temporary place to get a drink before I showed them around on Granville Island. We had a really nice dinner and because they were beginning to fall asleep because of their jetlag, it was the right time for them to head back to the hotel. That also meant time for me to meet the others to go to a hardstyle party. Everyone really enjoyed this music (“How do you have to dance on this?”). After a while, I headed home to prepare myself for a busy Sunday.

Then Sunday was there. I went back to my parents’ hotel to have breakfast. When we walked out of the hotel, the hop on hop off bus was waiting for us to get in. We drove around Vancouver and saw Gastown, the lookout tower, fly over Canada and Stanley Park. At the end of the day, the bus brought us back to the hotel. We did some games (which I won of course) and had dinner. I invited them to my Jacuzzi on the roof to end the day relaxing.

I can say I had a really nice weekend. I am already counting down to the next one. But first, there will be a pub night in between where you can tell me all about your adventures during your weekend. So I hope to see you all at TAPshack this Wednesday!

Rockies trip: Hotel series I

During the Rockies trip we will stay in three different hotels. The Premier Mountain Lodge in Valemount, Mount Royal or The Banff International in Banff and the Travelodge in Golden. In the Rockies trip: Hotel series we will give you more information about every hotel. In our first episode we will take a closer look into the Premier Mountain Lodge in Valemount.

Valemount is the nearest community to the west of Jasper National Park and Mount Robson Provincial Park, which we will visit the next day. Mount Robson is the tallest mountain in the Canadian Rockies. Valemount has around 1,065 residents on an area of 4 square meters. Valemount’s economy is based on the growing tourism industry and hospitality. It offers over 500 hotel rooms to the visitors of the Rocky Mountain.

The Premier Mountain Lodge is one of the largest accommodation facilities in Valemount and offers you breathtaking views of the mountains from every suite. The hotel includes a indoor pool, sauna and hot tub, exactly what you need after a long day of driving and sightseeing. The rooms are equipped with satelitte TV’s and hair dryers. In the whole hotel you will have acces to the free WI-FI.

Since it will be our first night in the Rockies we will celebrate this by a BBQ dinner in the Canadian way.

We hoped you got a better impression about the hotel accommodation and stay tuned for the next episode about the hotel in Banff

INTERNeX Canada: How was your weekend? ‘Rocky special!’

Hello there!

WOW… This weekend was amazing! With 19 other people from INTERNeX and in total 150 students we went to the Rocky Mountains with West Trek. The trip was special because we travelled with the party bus! There was a bottle of free champagne of all the girls and tons of good, loud party music!

But of course there was more then only party time. Let’s talk about this weekend, what we did, what we saw and why it was so awesome!

SONY DSC

Early Friday morning around 7am we left Vancouver with one of the party busses. We drove via Hope and Kamloops to the Spagath Falls. On the bus we did some games, sang songs together and enjoyed the sceneries.

We spend our first night in Valemount. After dinner we had the change to play some real Canadian hockey on the parking lot.. Together with some beers this was a really cool first night.
Next morning we left early in the directions of the Rocky Mountains! Our first stop was Mt. Robson. This HUGE mountain is with 3954 meter the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies. We took some cool photographs from the cloudless top.

SONY DSCNext stop Jasper. This was the last stop before we headed to the famous Icefield Parkway. There was some shopping time at the village to get some lunch and snacks. After that we drove into the bigger mountains. Endless peaks covered with snow and ice and light blue or green colored lakes makes this place one of the best on our planet. We stopped at the Athabasca Falls and the Columbia Icefields. From here we went on one of the big special busses all the way up on the glacier! When we arrived up on the ice  there was time to discover this place. If you brought a empty bottle you had the change to fill it up with some of the most fresh glacier water in the world!

After a funny ride back to the base-camp we boarded our own party bus again. With some nice music we stopped at Peyto and Bow Lake. At Bow it was time for some polar bear swimming! Almost the half of the people put there swimming suits on.. After a ‘wolf speech’ of Lee it was time to run into this 5 degree cold water! These experiences makes this trip so special!

Our last drive for today was from the lake to Banff! Around 8pm we arrived in this small and friendly city. After a hour of relaxing in the big hotel-rooms it was time to go partying!! First we went to the pub to catch some drinks and shots. Some of the group we’re wearing some crazy outfits.. At 11pm we left the pub for the big nightclub! That night was a big party for everyone!

Sunday morning and the whole bus with a hangover… 😉 We we’re lucky that the next stop was only 5 minutes away; the Banff Gondola! With a small cable car we went up the mountain! From the top you had one of the best views of the Rockies.
SONY DSCNext we’re some free hours in Banff to catch lunch and buy some souvenirs. In the afternoon we continued our drive up to Moraine Lake and Lake Louise. These two lakes are absolutely stunning and one of the highlights of this weekend! The blue color, the snowy mountains and the endless trees makes these lakes one of the best in the world. (see the picture!)

It was already late afternoon so we drove as fast as we can to our last hotel in Golden! When we arrived we could eat some hamburgers fresh from the BBQ. At night we lighted the campfire and enjoyed some roasted marshmallows. Lee told us some cool stories about bears in the Rockies.

The next and last morning was a long day. We had to drive back to Vancouver so we made a lot of kilometers. We still had time for some funny, nice stops. The first one was at the flea market. Everyone on the bus had to buy something crazy for another person. It ended up with guys in dresses and girls in boxers!

Later we stopped at Othello Tunnels for a nice walk. After this stop is was time to go back to the city of Vancouver!

We had an awesome, amazing, funny, crazy and really great weekend with everybody!

Thanks guys for joining us and West Trek to the Rockies! The pictures and video’s are following (very) soon 🙂

Cheers,

Jelle
