What to do on the weekend? Easter 2019

It’s Eastern and many of you are joining us for the annual Rockies trip. But for those, who can’t make it, there are other activities you can do in Vancouver this weekend.

fish mThe Vancouver Aquarium, Canada’s largest Aquarium, will offer an Easter scavenger hunt this weekend. During the hunt you can learn interesting and quirky facts about the 500,000 animals of the aquarium. Even better, you can win a prize when submitting your answers, gathered during the hunt, at the end. The scavenger hunt is offered from Friday to Monday. The ticket for an adult will cost $38 and $30 for a student.

Some of  you might have visited the Indian Vaisakhi celebration last weekend in Vancouver. If you liked it or missed it, you have the opportunity to go to another Vaisakhi celebration. This one will take place in Surrey on Saturday. The event will celebrate the New Year of the Sikh faith. With an expected 300,000 visitors, it will be one of the biggest Vaisakhi celebrations outside of India. There will be a parade, performances and Indian food. And the best part is, the event is free, as well as most of the food. The celebration will take place from approximately 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the parade starting at 12885 85th Avenue, at Surrey’s Gurdwara Dashmesh Darbar Temple.

In case you find yourself craving Pizza on Saturday, good news, Pizza Pizza offers cheese and pepperoni pizza for only $4.20 at all of their locations for the entire day.

Enjoy your Easter weekend!

INTERNeX Canada: How was your weekend? Indian Sunday review!

After an amazing Saturday having some rest, Sunday INTERNeX had the Indian Day. We met at Waterfront Station and our first stop was Sikh Temple.

We followed the Indian tradition so we covered our hair, and we left our shoes at the door. Feeling a little more Indian we went inside the temple. It was really wide and nice. The area was divided in two subareas, one for women and another one for men where the Indian families pray separated by gender.

After that, a nice man asked us to join their lunch. In the same temple they have a dining room downstairs where every day they prepared Indian food.  So we really had a real Indian experience eating Indian food made by Indian people in an Indian temple! The best of all was the hospitality and kindness of the people there and of course to have the possibility of living such an authentic experience without leaving Vancouver!

After that we went to Punjabi Market area. It´s just a couple of streets with Indian restaurants and shops, perfect if you want to buy some jewelry, silk, species.. But be careful there is not Market in Punjabi Market, just to let you know.

Later we took a bus to come back to downtown to take some beer at Cambie Bar.

It was a strange Sunday but with a lot of fun moments… like the guys with their handmade turban, the bus where everybody spent so much time going and coming back, Torben and I we just got off the bus in the wrong stop and we walked all East Hasting long, with their particular nice views..

Thanks you all guys and thank you to all the kind people we met in Sikh Temple!

Have a good day! अच्छा दिन

Cheers,

Irene

East is East

I am totally about trying new things and with the summer coming up Vancouver has endless opportunities, more than i think could possibly fit it anyone’s schedule. I love the fact that Laura pushed herself to try something new, and sushi too! I know plenty of people who have never eaten sushi before because they are terrified of eating RAW fish, and most of the time they stand firm in their beliefs that they’ll just hate it! But you never know….if there is anywhere to try sushi, Vancouver is the place to do it!

As most of you are aware of i am all about FOOD (*hint since a lot of my blogs have been about new restaurants i’ve frequented) and i want to let you guys know about all of Vancouver’s hidden gems that unless you’re a local you might miss out on. Since i am a student and am currently unemployed lol i need to find cheap options that wont break the bank but are also delicious and healthy. So i want to introduce to you all…EAST IS EAST!

This small restaurant has two locations; 1) East Is East on Main Street @ 4413 Main Street (Main and 28th), 2) Chai Gallery-East Is East & Silk n’ Spice @ 3239 W. Broadway. Known around the city for its amazing roti wraps, unique drink options (fruit smoothies, eastern shakes and boasting the best Chai in the city!) and just a calming aura, this hot spot will offer you with a unique experience that is rarely found around the city.

After being introduced to East Is East 7 years ago, i have become a dedicated weekly customer. When i first walked through the dimly lit doorway i was hesitant, what was this Indian/Afghan food?! Never heard of it before, never tried it before, wasn’t even sure what would be presented to me on the plate! But trust me i was not disappointed…everything i saw on the menu seemed to catch my fancy, so i made it my vow to try just about everything on the menu.

Whether its the summer of the winter, i’m there to enjoy their hand crafted benches and tables out front when the sun is shining, otherwise ill head in through the doorway and take cover in their carpet draped dining area for those wet days we see so often out here. Still not convinced?! Take a look at their website and see exactly what they have to offer in terms of their menu, events, galleries, etc.

“Nothing is what you expect as you walk into the chai gallery so welcome to a new world where you can have the dining experience of your dreams”
