What to do on the weekend?

Aaaand the countdown is on: the weekend is just a few hours away! Nothing planned yet? There is a lot going on the next two days, so we have here a collection of ideas for you.

On Saturday, we get the chance to spend a night on the mountain. Grouse Mountain is hosting the event ‘24 hours of winter’ with many fun snow activities. You can ski or snowboard the entire night under the floodlight installed near the slopes. As we already skied last weekend, we will try something different this time! Let’s rent a pair of snowshoes and walk around the Blue Grouse Lake where stunning light installations guide us the way through the night. Need more action? Then we can rent a sled and slide down the slopes in the dark. You can check out all the activities offered here. After all these activities in the snow, it will be time to warm up again. Dinner is waiting for us in one of the many cafes, bars and restaurants on the mountain. It does not matter if you really had skis under your feet before, but après-ski is always fun! Grab a cold beer or a hot cider and dance to the sounds of a live DJ.

Sounds good? Then meet us at 3.45pm at the skytrain ‘Vancouver City Centre Station’ and we will take a bus to Grouse Mountain. The admission fee for this night is $45. Extra shuttle busses will bring us back to the city centre late at night or early in the morning.

For the ones who have seen enough snow by now, there is a warmer option to do on Sunday. A huge event is happening in Vancouver’s China Town this weekend. Welcome the year of the dog. A bit later then we did, the Chinese population is celebrating their New Year this weekend. The international Village Mall, in which our office is located, is already decorated and full of different stands. Everyone who wants to see the parade on Sunday can meet Mandy in front of the International Village Mall on the Chinatown side at 10.45am. Be there on time, so you do not miss the start of the parade at 11am. After that, you have the possibility to explore the activities in the International Village Mall. A dog star show, multi-ethnic craft tables and live stage performances are waiting for you.

Smart Saver Vancouver

 

As this weekend was quite expensive for some of us, it might be a good idea to save some money again. Especially now that there are a lot of events and trips coming up.

An app that will help you save money is Checkout 51. Through Checkout 51, you can save money on certain brands. This is how it works: sign up via the internet or download the app through the App Store or Google Play. After this you make a photo of your bill and upload it at this app. If the amount of $20 has been reached, the company will send you the money. Our PR member, Danielle has been using the app in the Netherlands as well and confirms that it really works. The app has different offers every week, which will be changed every Thursday. You can see these offers at the app or at the website. One of the current offers, for example, is buy 3 Pringles and get $2 back. There is one catch though, for some of the offers, the items have to be on the same receipt.

You might have passed it already while going to our office in the International Village Mall. This is of course about the one and only Yoko Yaya! Yoko Yaya is a Chinese store where you can get almost everything you need. From beauty products to kitchen wear, you can find it there. A lot of their products is only $2, so if you just moved in, this is the place to be!

As most of us cannot survive the morning without a coffee, this offer cannot be forgotten. If you buy a cup of coffee at Tim Hortons, you can win several prices such as a television, a car or a coffee. Most people only win a coffee. However, me and Danielle had the bad luck to not win anything at all. This is mostly a chance to save money for people who buy coffee anyway and therefore have the chance to save money. Furthermore, the coffees at Tim Hortons are not even that expensive, so it might be an idea to check it out anyway.

Try to save as much money as you can, so you can spend it on our Kelowna trip!

INTERNeX Canada: What to do on the weekend

Today I want to talk about a few very interesting indoor activities, because summer is over and the rainy season starts right now. Do you know what it could be? No? Well, then please continue reading.

1)…..going to the CINEMA!
Join the 32^nd Vancouver International Film Festival (Sep 26^th – Oct 11^th)! The VIFF is presenting 500 screenings of 340 carefully selected films from 70 countries. 2)…..Pub & Club Night!
This weekend, we will have our legendary pub & club night! Once a month, we meet on Friday night instead of Wednesday evening for a few drinks, and tons of fun. The chosen place this time is The Cambie, the best place in Downtown to save some money.
