What to Do on the Weekend?

Another weekend full of fun and adventure lies brightly ahead of us, so what is there to do?

Since it is the long Thanksgiving weekend, our weekly event deals with this holiday. On Sunday, October 13, you shouldn’t miss the Thanksgiving Potluck in our INTERNeX office. We will get together at 5 pm and everyone is invited to bring a dish to share. If you make a typical Canadian Thanksgiving dish, something from your home country or simply something you have been craving for a long time, does not matter. The plan simply is to enjoy a variety of different dishes, cherish each other’s company, listen to music and have some fun. Please don’t forget to also bring your own beverages!

Another fun thing to do on Sunday is attending the Halloween Parade on Granville Street at 11pm. Lots of people usually join or watch this happening that runs for about an hour. At the parade you’ll find action heroes, zombies of all kinds as well as Japanese anime characters. An interesting fact is that you don’t have to pay to participate in the parade if your costume is at least 70% handmade. This is surely the right event to get into the Halloween mood!

The Cranberry Festival on Saturday, October 12 is another seasonal event to be considered for the weekend. The festival takes place in Fort Langley, which is a beautiful historic town located in the Fraser Valley about a 45-minutes from Vancouver. The event usually features a market with dozens of vendors, cooking demonstrations, live music performances, food trucks and all kinds of cranberry-themed things to do and look at. Also, don’t miss having a look at the national historic site Fort Langley while you’re there (admission is free on that day!) to learn more about the site’s as well as Canada’s history. In the 19th century the location was a post of the Hudson Bay Company where fur traders mingled with California gold seekers on First Nation territory.

Have a wonderful weekend!!

What to Do on the Weekend?

To keep you busy on the weekend, here are some fun things to do on the upcoming Saturday and Sunday:

Our weekly event is taking place on Saturday, October 5. We will escape the room at Locked on 1050 Kingsway  – Unit#200 (on the second floor).  Our mission is to prevent the world from being reigned by zombies – mutants created by a failed animal experiment and a virus spreading all over the city. We are the only human survivors and the search for the antidote is our goal. To find it, we have to make our way deep into the laboratory. We are the world’s last hope to prevent a catastrophe! Do not miss to join us on Saturday afternoon!

Another fun thing to do on the weekend is attending the Diwali Fest. From October 5 until November 3 numerous of these festivities take place in the Lower Mainland of Vancouver. Diwali celebrates East Indian culture and is celebrated around the world in fall. This weekend, the celebrations take place in downtown Surrey on Saturday, October 5. This is surely a great opportunity to experience another culture and Vancouver’s diversity.

For it is the Octoberfest season, I can also recommend the Octoberfest of the Alpenclub, which offers German food and beer, live music and dancing, held on October 4-5. The venue is a large and festively decorated beer hall-type room at 4875 Victoria Drive. Tickets can be bought on the Alpenclub’s website.

For those of you interested in movies, the Vancouver International Film Festival is still running until October 11 in cinemas across downtown. Check out the variety of new movies as well as the special events like Q&As, panel discussions and master classes.

I hope the mentioned activities and happenings give you lots of inspiration for the weekend. Hope to see y’all for the escape the room game on Saturday. It’s going to be great fun!! 🙂

What to Do on the Weekend?

Another workweek has passed and the weekend is close at hand. So what is there to do on the upcoming weekend?

One of the greatest events this fall starts on Thursday, September 26. It’s the International Vancouver Film Festival (VIFF). The VIFF presents the world’s best cinema fused with related talks and events. Over 320 films are on display in a variety of movie theatres throughout downtown and approximately 400 industry professionals from around the globe are hosted. We will watch a Canadian Premiere on Sunday, September 29. “Burning Cane” depicts the stories of two Southern African-American men and their struggles in daily life as a pastor and unemployed father. The movie, which was written, photographed, and directed by someone still in high school (Philip Youmans), is surely worth a visit. We will meet on 2:30 pm on Sunday in the Cineplex Odeon International Village Cinemas, in the shopping mall where also our office is located in.

Apart from the world of movies, we also have other ideas for you for the weekend:

Another great festival taking place is the International Vancouver Flamenco Festival with pop-up but also theatre performances on Saturday and Sunday. Also on Sunday, September 28th, the Shipyards Festival is held in the Lower Lonsdale District on the North Shore. The one-day event includes free admission, multiple stages, beer gardens and lots of different food to be discovered. Not to forget, the location also offers stunning views of the Vancouver skyline. Most conveniently, you can go there by sea bus which itself is always a fun thing to do.

For those 19+, the Coquitlam Craft Beer Festival might also be an interesting event to attend. The festival takes place at the Hard Rock Casino featuring over 50 BC craft breweries, tasty appetizers and lots of interesting people to mingle with. In addition, it is Octoberfest time now all across the world. This weekend, on Saturday, one takes place at the Hastings Racecourse from 1 to 6 pm. You’ll find traditional fare, exciting horse races, live music, and of course, plenty of food and beer there.

Have a great weekend and see you at the movies on Sunday!! 🙂

How was your weekend?

The next weekend is over and it was an incredible one. It was our Whistler-weekend and at the same time also my last real weekend in Canada. So two reasons why this weekend had to be awesome! But let me tell you a bit more about it:

IMG_3978Friday in the late afternoon, me and a group of 16 others met at Burrard Station to start our Trip to Whistler. The first surprise: Nobody was too late and even the Bus was in time. What an unbelievable start! 😀 After loading our luggage in the bus, we started our 2 hour journey to Whistler. Arrived in Whistler we checked-in our Lodge and started to prepare for the evening. The first point on our time schedule was having diner, so we ate together. Due to the long day we had, nobody was in the mood to go out. We decided to stay together in one room ,where we had some games and a lot of fun! Around 2 o’clock in the morning the first day was over and everybody went to bed!

Saturday was the only complete day of our stay in Whistler, so I don’t have to mention that it was our activity day. We started our day with having breakfast all together. Afterwards the first group departed. 10 of us went to the Zipline-Office, where they signed in for a 3 hours tour. While the first group was already on their tour the second group, my group, prepared for their first Bungee-Jump. With a shuttle we drove out to the bridge and to be honest by coming nearer to the point of jumping I became nervous and more nervous. A bungee-jump was something,I wanted to do my entire life and know I had this big chance. Unfortunately I was the last of our group so I had to see how the other guys jumped down this bridge and yeah my feelings didn’t become really better. After a few minutes, which felt by the way, like a few hours, it was my turn. I stepped to the edge and waited for the “go” to jump. 5,4,3,2,1 and jump. Without thinking about I jumped down and wow the moment of free fall was amazing. You felt so free, free like an eagle.. Back on the bridge I was still a bit flashed and confused. Did i really jump down a bridge? Yes I did it and it was unbelievable! The third group went out for a hike and enjoyed the beautiful nature surround whistler!
Back in our Lodge, we meet the rest of the group and we told each other about our days and experiences while having diner together. Afterwards it was time to check out the Spar area of our Lodge. Hot-Top and Pool built an amazing combination. Unfortunately this combination was so good that we spent their a lot of time. Back in our apartmens everybody was in a relaxing mode, what had as consequence that we changed our evening planes. Instead of going out, we spent the Saturday in one room partying! It was a very long night!

IMG_4305After a few hours of sleep it was breakfast  and checking out time. We drooped all luggage in one room and went out again to explorer Whistler a last time. Some of us checked out the Squamish Museum, wich was by the way, very cool and I can only recommend a visit. The other part of our group bought some stuff in Whistlers “Shopping area”.  In the afternoon we went back to Vancouver again. This was already the end of our weekend. A weekend, where the time passed too fast. But isn’t that always the case when you enjoy something? I think everybody had an amazing trip and made some good memories! 🙂

Thank you for that!

-Michael

How was your weekend?

It’s beginning to look a lot like… summer! I did not expect to be able to wear shorts mid-May, but Vancouver continues to amaze me. Let’s look back on this fun, sunny weekend.

32266945_10156233996584647_4112762211934404608_nFriday night, it was time to go to our favorite country bar again: the Yale Saloon. And you know what that means… line-dancing time! Sadly, we were not wearing cowboy boots or hats, but that did not make it any less fun. Since we went line dancing before, we were not sure if we would learn a new choreography this time, or if we could show off moves we had already learned before. The choreographer did not let us down: we learned some new moves! When the line dancing ended, it was time to join some of you to the Bourbon. As always, we had a great time catching up with all of you and dancing to good music (sometimes even in a cage).

On Saturday, it was time to watch the Grand Final of 2018’s Eurovision Song Contest. I might have left Europe, but the European part of me has not left me. (Although, not only Europe participates in the contest, so what does being European regarding ‘Eurovision’ mean anyway?) My favorite thing about Eurovision is discussing the performances with friends, since most of the performances are quite, let’s say, unique. But hey, it would not be Eurovision if it didn’t include some laughs. I discussed the show with my Bulgarian friend from college, both of us supporting our own country. We figured neither of our home countries would win this year, but Israel’s “Toy” song winning the contest was definitely unexpected. Not only because of the song, but Israel is not even in Europe. Although, even Australia participates, so can we really be that surprised?

27241374947_326330bf27_nWhen I woke up on Sunday, I opened my weather app and saw that it was going to be 25 degrees Celsius that day. Great! Time to go to the beach! I spent the afternoon enjoying the sun and playing beach volleyball with some of you. At 4:30pm, we took the sky train to Planet Lazer: it was time to play laser tag with all of you! Playing three games was a lot of fun, yet exhausting as well. Water was our best friend when we finished. After hydrating ourselves, we all went home to rest.

I hope you all had a great weekend!

See you on Wednesday at 131 Water!

Smart Saver Vancouver

While the weather is still good, we should still have fun in the sun. But we can all understand that the summer may have been a bit expensive, that’s why we lined up some things that you can do while the weather is still nice and won’t cost you a fortune.

If you not have visited Kits Swimming Pool it is definitely something that you have to do while the sun is still shining now. The view is amazing because it is really close to Kitsilano Beach and the water is salt instead of chlorine.

36466824995_7499d6ccbc_zIf you want something more energetic and active you can also go for a paddleboard rental. Ecomarine has a lot of locations to rent a paddle-board.

Something that will cost you no money is doing a hike around the beautiful Stanley Park. Stanley Park is 400 hectares of gorgeous nature which makes it the largest park in North America. Stanley Park is surrounded by the seawall, which makes it special to go there for a hike.

Another thing, which won’t cost you any money, is visiting Dr.Sun Yat-Sen Park. This park has elements of a Chinese garden.

And if you feel like you just want to relax and enjoy the sun, Vancouver is offering a lot of beautiful beaches like Kitsilano Beach, English Bay, Jericho Beach and many more. Here you can take a refreshing dip into the water or soak up some sun.

I hope you all enjoy the last bit of summer here in Vancouver and we are looking forward to see you tomorrow at the PuB NiGHT.

INTERNeX Canada: PUB + CLUB NIGHT Announcement!

As you all may know already or not know, this Friday January 25th, we will have another awesome club and pub night at one of our favorites, the Pint! This pub and club night is something you definitely don’t want to miss out as Irene and Queenie have approached the end of their PR internships here at INTERNeX Canada.

Everyone at INTERNeX (or actually during life in general) has to say bye at times, and those people who are leaving will be replaced by new ones. And as sad as that is, I also think that being able to meet new people and create new memories always keeps things exciting, doesn’t it?

So even if they are leaving, it won’t be end of the world. If they were special to us, then we will surely meet them again soon. Really there is no reason to cry! Come have a drink or two (or possibly more?), wish them farewell, and party on!

If you want to avoid the long line up and the $10 cover charge after 9:00 pm, we advise you to be there at 7:30 pm! Also, join this event on Facebook too, so see you all there 🙂

Where is it at??  The Pint Public House at 455 Abbott Street, Vancouver

When is it exactly?? Friday January 25th at 7:30 pm

Cheers,

Flora
