Olympic Winter Games 2014: Hockey

Olympic Winter Games 2014, 17 days of exhilarating winter games in Sochi, over 80 countries and around 2000 athletes will be competing against each other in almost 80 event. However for the Canadians only the ice hockey games count, be prepared for some crazy days. Extra for you I looked up some must-knows about the Canadian hockey culture. Just in case you stumble up on a bar full of Canadians watching hockey or to get some extra credit when your fellow workers are talking about hockey.

Hockey was invented in the mid 1850s by British soldiers, which were on duty in Canada. In 1879 students at the University in Montreal gave the game a set of rules. On March 3, 1875, the first indoor game was played at Montreal’s Victoria Skating Rink. Instead of using a ball, they used a puck, to prevent the puck form exiting the rink and hitting spectators. In 1893 the first Stanley Cup was played and awarded to the Montreal HC. The Stanley Cup was invented in 1888 by the Governor General of Canada, Lord Stanley of Preston, to award the best hockey team of Canada. The Montreal Candiens have won the most Stanley Cups, 23 times. The Canucks are named after the Canadian folk Johnny Canuck, who was a skater and hockey player in his spare time.

Beneath  you can find a short overview of the game time during the Olympic Games and especially for the ‘Sweds’ the games are marked blue.

If you want to we can stream some games at our office, of course not the ones at 4 or 6 in the mornings. Just let me know in the comments if you are interested in watching the games and I will make sure that we can watch them.

INTERNeX Canada: Vancouver Aquarium

How about some relaxing after a hard week of work at the Vancouver Aquarium. The Vancouver Aquarium features a 4D Experience, a meeting with African penguins and a beluga or dolphin show.

The Vancouver Aquarium is a non-profit society, passionate about conserving the aquatic life. Their shows are developed around the animals’ natural behaviors and therefore will no show ever be the same. A day at the Vancouver Aquarium can be best described as a ‘relaxed learning experience’. We will have a great time watching the underwater creatures doing what they are best at, swimming.

When: Saturday 8 February, 11:00am

Where: Vancouver Aquarium 845 Avison Way

See here for more information about the event

Hope to see you all on Saturday!

INTERNeX Canada: PuB NiGHT Review

Last night we had our weekly, my first but definitely not last, PuB NiGHT at the Bismarck. The Bismarck is a local cozy bar near the office, with a touch of industrial vibe.

Processed with VSCOcam with t1 presetDrinks and food, which looked delicious, were orderd. The ‘newbies‘, were introduced to the 151, a pretty strong burning rum. Apparently is can also be lit on fire, so that is something to try for a next time.

I heard a lot of different activities you guys want to do, so I am going to do my best to plan them. And whenever you have a idea, comment, question or anything else, you can come by at the office, call us or write us on facebook.

As you can see there are no pictures of the PuB NiGHT, so if made any pictures during the PuB NiGHT and do not mind sharing them, just send an mail to pr@internexcanada.com with the photos.

It was great to meet y’all and I’m already looking forward to our next PuB NiGHT

Alexandra – The new PR Coordinator at INTERNeX Canada

My name is Alexandra and I’m the new PR Coordinator at INTERNeX for the following seven months, so you will hear a lot from me. I am born in Germany, but lived since 21 years in The Netherlands where I also study International Leisure Management.

IMG_2911

Over the past years, whenever I had the time and money, I traveled through Europe, met new people and new cultures, made unforgettable experiences and grew as a person. However the chance to travel outside of Europe never really came up, so when I got the chance to go to Vancouver for my placement there was no way that I wasn’t going.

Here at INTERNeX I will be working in the PR Department which means I will be planning events, such as the weekly PuB NiGHTS, trips and other events. I will keep you updated on our social media, so don’t forget to follow, subscribe or like us. If you have any questions, I will be happy to answer them.

I’m looking forward to the next couple of months here in Vancouver and to meet you all on Wednesday at our PuB NiGHT!

Cheers,

Alexandra
