What to do on the weekend?

It is almost time for the weekend, so it is time to figure out what to do on the weekend. We have a few suggestions for you that you might want to check out before you make any plans!

18193778_10155234529877103_6254901922779113200_nOn Sunday we are planning on going to Bowen Island with the INTERNeX family. Bowen Island is a small island between Vancouver Island and Vancouver. Therefore, we are going by ferry to this awesome destination, which is going to be already an adventure itself. Once there you get the choice to do a hike, explore the island by scooter, do kayaking or to do stand-up paddling. You are still able to join if you would like to explore this island with us. If you want to know more about the event then check out our Facebook page and the blogpost.

If you still don’t have something planned for Saturday, we might be able to help you out with that. This weekend is the second weekend that Playland is open, so it is time to go onto all the rides and to let the adrenaline kick in. For only $36 you can get a day ticket and ride almost all rides. If you buy it online you will even save $3.

8158899125_27926f40d4_oWhen you are more into culture, Fort Langley might be the perfect place for you! Fort Langley is a small and old village only a few hours from Vancouver. While walking around in this village, you will discover all the wonders from the 19th century. If Fort Langley is a bit too far away, then you can choose to go to Gulf of Georgia Cannery in Steveston village. During your visit in Gulf of Georgia Cannery, you will learn about the history of the West Coast fishing industry. Both historic sites are free this year, so it is the time to explore and get to know British Columbia.

If you would rather experience culture by trying out different food, then you should definitely go to the Illumination Summer Night market. This market is held every weekend from May till September. There are over 200 different food and merchandise stands, so there is enough entertainment for the whole night. This year will also be the first year that it is together with a huge light show. The entrance fee is only $3, so it is definitely worth trying out.

See you at Bowen island or at next PuB NiGHT!

Details for Victoria Trip – 26th&27th

Our monthly overnight trip to Victoria is getting nearer and nearer, so we want to give you some details about what we are going to do while we are in Victoria.

  • We’ll arrive in our hostel at about 12am on Saturday, where we will just drop off our luggage and then grab some lunch in one of the pubs that Tim recommended (Canoe Brewpub). Lets cross our fingers for nice weather so that we can sit on the great patio with view on the harbour.
  • Afterwards we’ll explore Victoria together and check out some famous sightseeing attractions, as for example the Inner harbour, Old town, Parliament building, Fisherman’s wharf and some more. If the weather is nice we can as well go for a nice walk through the famous Beacon Hill Park.
  • For dinner we will go to another highly recommended Brewpub which is called Spinnaker, right over the bridge. Their menu offers a lot of snacks (“perfect with a pint”), soups or salads as well as pasta, pizza & burger or “fish &chips”, but they recommend not to eat too much, but to leave some space for their famous dessert. We can either stay there for the evening or just go to another pub or club.
  • On sunday there are a lot of different outdoor activities that you can do, and everybody can just choose whatever he or she likes to do. There are for example:
  • Whale watching
  • Kayaking
  • Zip-lining
  • SUP
  • Bike rental

Please check out the different opportunities, so that we can discuss on saturday what everybody wants to do and then give you all the information about it and how to get there etc.

  • Afterwards we’ll all meet at our hostel again to pick up our luggage. We’ll have late lunch/ early dinner/ snacks together and then head back to Vancouver. We’ll be back in Vancouver at 9-ish.

You can sign up for this fun trip in our office until friday.

If you have nay questions about the trip don’t hesitate to ask us!!

Tofino Trip Review

We just returned from our stay in Tofino and I already miss it. The beautiful view over the ocean, the nice little village and of course all the fun we had.

We left Vancouver last Saturday at 7am and drove for 40 minutes to the ferry. On the ferry we had a nice view over the ocean. After 1h40 we arrived on Vancouver Island. Our first stop was the Coombs market. This market is famous for their goats, which life on the roof of the shops. We had a short lunch break and then made our way on to the Cathedral grove. The Cathedral grove is a part of the MacMillian Provincal Park. In the park short walks can be made to see the huge and big trees. The biggest tree is 9meters. After hugging the trees we went back on the bus onto the waterfalls. At around 4pm we arrived in Tofino where some of us went on a sunset whale watching trips. The others wandered around the village, grabbed some food and visited the Toquin beach. At 7pm we all gathered together at the bus and drove to our hotel, Jamie’s Rainforest inn. At the hotel our dinner was already waiting for us and after the dinner we had a small campfire.

The next morning was an early morning, but luckily we had a delicious breakfast and could go on for our activities that day. Many activities were planned for that day. The first group went surfing and later at the day people went off to go kayaking, bear watching, whale watching or taking the water taxi to Meares Island for the big tree trail. We also were luckily that we could visit the Clayoquot island, also known as Stubbs island. This island is privately owned by Susan Bloom and is only open for visitors on the long weekend in May. After everyone finished their activities for the day it was time to grab some dinner at the village and it was possible to enjoy the sunset. At 9pm most of us made our way back to the hotel, where we had some drinks and played some games.
The next morning we got our breakfast package, including a muffin, apple and orange juice and off we went again for the next set of activities. Again we had beautiful weather. At 1pm we had to be back at the bus and we started making our way back to the ferry. We arrived in Vancouver at 9pm and made our way straight back home.

We hope you all enjoyed your time in Tofino and hope to see you tonight at the Flashmob!

Ps: we do not have a pub night this week, but we have a pub&club night on Friday.
